The Banshee was a powerful card for the year 1998. It was around 2x to 2.5x faster than a Voodoo 1 (if the CPU is fast enough). It also had a better image quality thank to the 22-bit filter and no 2d-3d cable.
Not having that cable is so good, I really dislike it. Gets in the way all the time. I didn't know it was that much faster! I think my CPU holding Banshee back a lot. I'll have a look if I can find a faster CPU in my collection which would work with this motherboard.
@@RootiferasRetroGameplay yes, for example in Quake 2 640x480 the Voodoo 1 gets around 26-27 fps, the Banshee 64 fps. The Banshee needs a Pentium 2 350 - 400 mhz to reach it’s full potential in the 1997-1999 games.
@@3dfxvoodoocards6 got it, thanks! I'll try with an AMD K6-2 350Mhz today, turns out that's the fastest CPU this motherboard can handle. I'm halfway through playing the last chapter, I think I'll replace the CPU today and see how much difference it makes. I'm quite curious!
