Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I've been trying to explain this to the management since I've been with my company. You can't figure out the solutions to the problem without capturing and analyzing all of the variables first. It's not one metric, such as scrap, It's the other ten that got you to the point of scrap.

A lot of short downtime in manufacturing is built into production times, such as changing a carbide inserts or changing drills, changing welding wire, replacing thread on a sewing machine . If every 25 pieces I need to index my carbide insert on a 10,000 part run I build this "downtime" indexing the insert into my production so its part of the run time. Its how you define downtime or run time and how you build it into your schedule.

Maybe a dumb question but even digitally how do we go about preparing the data that would help us categorize scraps? Probably assign a reason against the scraps when we are entering the data into the MES system ?

Scrap count is consumed from the waste variable, the scrap categorization is applied to the count. For every waste count there must be a category entry.

Reasons to be filled up by operator for short down times ?? Its similar as to why a lot of (CRM) Customer relationship management tools fail, sales guy wont enter all the details or considers it painful to enter them or give away details which are close to him !! He feels he loses his importance, now how is it to be incentivised is another issue to quantify , have you a case where they get incentivised for it and how much ?

Exactly the same problem we keep facing with factory deployments either it is random bs the operators fill in for the sake of filling in ... Or the end up selecting wrong options when we provided reason codes as lookups

I’m commenting from Kuwait working for oil company. Highly grateful and I always watch your videos. My question is it possible to apply digital Transformation to process Safety management since it initially depends on studies like HAZOP, SIL, etc. or it could depend on Alarms, Cause &Effect, etc. Best Regards
