One of my cousins had a band (in the States, rather country music type) and he always sang this song at every family gathering, mariage, etc. One of my uncles couldn't hear it without crying. We kids sang it to ourselves in mispronounced French that we didn't understand. Now the elders are all gone. Having learned French, one day, I thought about this song and was glad to be able to track it down. Now I'm the one who cries.😊
Altijd moet ik weer terugdenken aan 45 jaar geleden. Wij gingen uit in het weekend en in de dancing was dit altijd een van de laatste liedjes die gedraaid werd. Een laatste slow om het weekend te eindigen. wat een mooie tijd toch.;,;;
Tegenover het Hotel Oscar in Saigon was er ook zo een dancing met onder andere het ganse repertoire van Adamo. Om de tien minuten was er steeds 1 minuut dansen in het pekke donker . Alle Vietnamezen daar aanwezig spraken perfect Frans .
J’en ai les larmes aux yeux ! Quel artiste pleine d’émotions je l’écoute chaque soir au coin du feu avec mon petit tequel. On kiff a deux jusqu’au lendemain matin en d’endormant sur cette musique. Ensuite je mange des pâtes aux pâtes et mercredi après midi j’ai amené mon tequel au cinéma.

My mum passed away on May 3rd, 2020 at 92. She was in Northwood Manor in Halifax and passed peacefully. She had tested positive for COVID-19, but showed no symptoms. She was a proud Acadian, who was brought up on the Magdalen Islands in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Although I could not hear it, she had a French accent until her dying breath. Upon meeting mum, people would always ask me if she was French? I would ask how did they know? They said her accent. This was one of her favourite songs and singers. She sang this to us as a lullaby almost every night. We also had it on an LP (I still have it)

The strangest thing happened to me last night. I kept dreaming of my father playing the guitar and I was trying to play with him and I couldn’t remember the words to this song. It was a French song he used to sing to me when I was a child. When I woke up I couldn’t get the tune out of my head so I did a search online to see if I could find it based on a few words I remembered in French. I found the clip right away! The weirdest part is that the clip was posted by Hector Savoie… my dad was Savoie!!!! I listened to the song and at some point it switches to English where it says… “Now when the sun says good-day to the mountains And the night says hello to the dawn I'm alone with my dreams on the hilltop And I can still hear his voice though he's gone I hear from my door the love songs through the wind It brings back sweet memories of you” Well… it certainly struck a chord with me and my emotions this morning are …. C’est l’auteur-compositeur-interprète Québécois Lévi Bouliane (né à Disraéli en 1932=décédé à Sherbrooke en 1992 qui a créé « « « Quand Le Soleil dit bonjour aux montagnes » » » en 1959.-Monsieur Bouliane était chanteur western et country; en plus d’être un excellent violoniste.-Mais je trouve également que la chanteuse l’interprète très bien.- Viviane (16 Juillet 2020)
