RULES CLARIFICATION: To begin a new round, shuffle all the square tiles together again and deal new tiles to each player, just as I did at the beginning of the game. This is implied, but in the video, I did not clearly state to re-shuffle and re-deal the tiles, so I just wanted to clarify that since this is a tutorial.

EPISODE 10 features the Milton Bradley game QUANDARY from 1994, designed by Dr. Reiner Knizia. It's the only game I know of without Knizia's name on the box. This is one the easiest board games to learn and teach, but it is delightfully addictive. It's beautifully produced with engraved bakelite tiles and an eye-catching game board. Quandary was later released with several different names, one of which is BOTSWANA, which I compare at the end of this episode.

Thanks so much for posting this, as well as showing the original instructions. I dug out my forgotten Quandary game when I was in the attic last week. We loved it, and had forgotten we had it. Our game was missing its original instructions, so the game store had printed us a faxed copy. After two decades in the attic, it was mostly faded from the heat. Because of your video, we'll play this fun game again!

That's a great comment! Thanks so much for watching and sharing your story! Quandary is such a timeless game, and this is my favorite edition of it. I think it's awesome that this video was helpful to you. :) Enjoy!!!

@@undiscovered_games I love the whole feel of the pieces. It's a great set up. But, you've got me wondering about the Botswana version to play with my grandkids. They're young enough to be intrigued by the animals figures. I'll seek it out. Thanks again!

Yes, kids typically love the animals in Botswana (also known as Wildlife Safari). That's the main reason I own both editions. But you're correct about the feel of the Quandary pieces. They are so satisfying & heavy!! Have fun!

I got that edition. I lack a regular group and not played it yet. You're doing a great job in showcasing these games.

Nice! I haven’t met many people who know about it, much less have it. Hope you get to try it soon. It’s a great warmup / filler game. I enjoy it at all player counts too.

@@undiscovered_games Currently playing his game My City (eternal side) online at boardgamearena. Love that one. Also playing Kramer/Kiesling's Renature at yucata. Man, it is growing on me. Really fun with four players. Genius area majority rules.

We must've been in the same toy store 25 years ago. Such a great game!

Thanks for watching! Yeah, the MB edition is the way to go in my opinion. It's sooo old-school and those heavy pieces are awesome!!

I reckon an ANTIQUES theme would make most thematic sense for this game? I.e. you gain various antique objects in the hope they fetch a good price in the final scoring. (Better than collecting wildlife miniatures, I’d say.) It’s a shame more gamers aren’t watching your very well produced & thoughtful videos - guess most just want to know about up-&-coming games. (I liked & subscribed after seeing the first one.)

I like the antique idea! Very cool! Thanks for the kind words. I just started my RU-vid channel a couple months ago, so I just gotta give it time I guess. I have many more followers on Instagram who seem to genuinely enjoy my posts about the lesser-known games… I just gotta get them to migrate over here to youtube haha. I appreciate you subscribing! Hopefully more people will discover the channel soon!

Tried this with my Battle Line game cards (with 10 cards = zero cards) plus cubes of matching colours. Can confirm that the first couple of games are pretty baffling, then suddenly the scheming starts & we’re all making various considerations before actions! Definitely becomes a bit of a brain teaser. Thanks for featuring this very early Knizia gem - & look forward to your next feature.

Hey that’s a great idea! Yeah it’s such a tricky game to master! I’m not sure I’ve figured it out yet myself, but I am definitely addicted to it & trying to improve. Thanks for the comment!

@@undiscovered_gamesCan’t make our minds up whether we prefer 6 cubes per colour, or 5. THINK we favour 6. If I were to hunt down the actual game I think it would be the original version you feature - wildlife one looks a bit naff to me.
@undiscovered_games

I agree, 6 seems more natural to me too. I definitely like the original the best! Plus I think it’s actually a little easier to find than the wildlife version currently.

Nice! Have you seen the Polish version (Ryki Afryki)? I think it has really cool illustrations on the cards.

Where can we get a copy of this, looks brilliant!
@undiscovered_games
@undiscovered_games 5 месяцев назад
Brilliant is correct! If you don't care about the edition, you can typically find one of the versions (Botswana, Wildlife Safari, Quandary) floating around on eBay or somewhere like that. I found this Quandary edition on eBay a few years ago. You can always check the geek market on BGG too. Good luck in your search!
