I picked up a UV K5 8 from Ali express for £8.50 with free shipping. It's crazy. You can always just set to TX disabled and use the radio as a basic scanner.
@@zer7637 From what I can tell the k5's have better build quality, better sound quality, cleaner transmissions (on unmodded frequencies) and the firmware has better moddability I think. A much better radio for basically the same price.
@@zer7637 UV5Plus has a bigger battery, but no USB C charging Buy the K5 (8) and put the 5plus battery on it (you have to trim a sliver of plastic from the top edge of the 5plus battery) then either battery will fit either radios
Good overview. Been using mine with Egzumer and programming using Chirp. It's a breeze once you learn the quirks. Fantastic value for money. Mostly use it for the Airband.
Received my UV-K6 about a week ago. Spent several days playing with the original firmware, but I just couldn't get past the terrible AM reception (air band), so last night I got up the nerve to load egzumer v0.22. WOW! AM reception is now all good. It appears egzumer changed the gain distribution and that did the trick. Same thing happened to Elecraft when they introduced the KX3. I am really impressed now. Best "less than $30 USD" I have ever spent. Still exploring scanning, band scope, etc.
Hey friend. Could you post a link for where you start to apply for your license please? I’m right at the point of starting that process now. I got my radio a couple of days ago and want to get back into it again now I’m older. I thought I’ll get a radio and see if I still want to get it, and I do! Your vids are awesome too, thank you for taking the time to make them. I’m also working my way through them. Thank you 🙂
How can I avoid not getting a knock on the door? Just never send and only receive? Thank you. I am new. From the US. Also is it ok to charge it from the c port?
When you say use you should make it clear this only means receiving on these band as it is highly illegal to transmit on marine or aircraft bands or others
@@HamTechRadioScannerDronesdoesnt include cb frequencies and when you go to unlock ll, it just tells you to "See "manual" which of course doesnt say anything about the Citizen Band frequencies.
Why do I need to stand on a hill? If I need to climb a hill to make it work, then it's crap. Any antenna included with the radio should be better than that. So, I'm curious why you find it "Quite good"?
what about ssb on the bands it is made for 2 meters and 440 not one video out of 20 I have watched have anything to do with what the radio is designed for 2 meters and 440 and then the ssb on those bands I give up
Can someone tell me what the attraction is....I mean I know people love this type of thing, but I have to be honest I simply cant see the fuss is about. Lots of 'noise' the odd beep and only just discernable conversations.... Can someone elighten me as to why I would buy one of these???
Techies love to tweak things. This product is very customizable by the consumer. All too rare now. Didn't used to be that way. If you are a techie tweaker you may have found your reason.
These are giant killers. I'm waiting for the full colour screen and full filtering on all trequencys to come out which Im not doupting there working on. Wouldn't you pay 100 pounds for that? Then I suspect waterfall and other goodies will be available.
