With script problems due to a writers strike, _QoS_ had a troubled production & was considered a slight disappointment in 2008, but it's aged very well. Uniquely stylish & action packed, _QoS_ works as the "third act" of _Casino Royale._

This film has my favourite "once you spot it you can't unsee it" moment. At the port a background extra is cleaning but the head of the broom is about 2 feet above the ground. Probably due to the director not wanting the air to be full of dust but it looks so weird.

“Quantum of Solace” gives away the theme in the title. For both Camille and Bond, getting their revenge still leaves them feeling empty. It only gives them a moment of comfort. CS and QoS are my favorite 2 Bond movies, basically an extended origin storyline of Bond’s vulnerability and loss, making him the cold womanizer that we all know. Great reaction!

One of the things I've loved most about Craig's Bond is how he inspired people to revisit and newly-appreciate what Dalton did in the role, because there's a lot of similarity in the grittier approach and his lethal seriousness. They both feel like dangerous people in a way that the other Bonds don't quite. This movie does play best when you've got a recent viewing of "Casino Royale" fresh in your head - it definitely plays like a coda to that story. Gemma Arterton got instant star treatment from her brief role as Fields; later she starred with Jeremy Renner in an extremely funny and gory movie called "Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters" which has earned a healthy cult following.

Quantum is a movie that has aged surprisingly well. Due to it's fast cuttings, it was almost unwatchable in the theatre, especially the pre-credit scenes. Watching it at home is almost as if you're watching a complete different movie. Amazing soundtrack, amazing title-song and the plot, like TND, was ahead of it's time. Also Forsters direction is absolutely seamless.

Barring some really bad editing in some scenes, I've grown fonder of this one with every viewing. I love how well the relationship between Bond and M comes to a stunning resolution ("He's my agent, and I trust him") when she realizes he's the only person trying to do what's right instead of succumbing to corruption. The introduction of a red-haired agent named "Miss Fields" is an amusing touch--we don't need to hear her first name to know what it is. Most of the action scenes are on point, with one of Bond's nastiest one-on-one clashes ever. The finale in the desert hotel, while wildly improbable, is also delightfully epic. I love the return of Mathis and Bond's tenderness toward him, as well as his continuing relationship with Felix. The final scene as Bond confronts the agent who caused Vesper's downfall is pure spy/espionage stuff in the vein of "From Russia With Love." On the whole, I consider this one of Craig's best.

While, to be fair, it is difficult following a lightning-in-a-bottle film like Casino Royale, I love this epilogue of an outing. They said the script had three occasions/chances to use his "Bond, James Bond", but they said that every time they came to it, it never felt right, almost disrespectful to the moment. I thought that was rather classy, to forego a franchise staple/must-have (and a pretty 'important' one at that), all for respecting the loss of a loved one.
@jprq

I just love this film as part of the Bond canon. Unlike all the others its a pure lean spy film with genuine plot twists and real character motivations. Bond’s fights are the best since the train in From Russia… the slide down the clay shingle roof to the head smash on the balcony where Bond lands might be the best… most visceral and realistic stunt in the series… and Greenes mad fight the the axe is a stand out in cinema. M’s reversal to trusting Bond thrills me every time… and Bond’s support of Camille… helping her prepare for her kill (circling back to Bonds 1st and 2nd kills in Casino) is bizarrely touching. Also… “We’re teachers on holiday and we just won the lottery” is peak Bond humor. I could go on and on. The fan resistance to this film just mystifies me. I guess it’s best watched as a (brilliant) coda to Casino but I’d still personally rank it in the top tier. Watching it along with you made it all the better! You’re spot on (per usual) about it posing the question: What kind of Bond does Craig become? These first 2 films with Craig opened the possibility of a more realistic tone and stand apart… the films from here on begin a new and “bigger” vibe. Craig is incredible throughout.

This one definitely improves on rewatch, especially if you watch it back to back with Casino Royale. The plot is a bit overcomplicated, the villain is underwhelming, and the theme song is out of place, but I think the biggest strike against this movie is just how good Casino Royale was.

The "tender side" of Bond that you see is taken straight from the books.* This one wasn't taken from a book, but the title was taken from a short story where Bond was talking with a South American official over dinner. Some of the reasons this one is considered to be on the weak side of the Craig films is that the press made a HUGE deal about the title thing. Then they had a villain like LeChifre, a poker genius who is more than willing to get his hands dirty to get what he wants, and follow him up with Chad who cowers in the back seat because the guy who fell off a roof looked at him. This guy wasn't a bond villain, he was a minion in a better suit. THEN, they followed it up with Skyfall, and this one was overshadowed on both sides. If you can distance it from the others, it's not that bad. *In one of the books, the token Sexy Lady(tm) had had the "bad experience" RU-vid doesn't want to admit exists. As a result she was out of the running for Sexy Lady and Bond respected that, not even so much as flirting with her until she felt comfortable enough to initiate it, if that ever happened. In the movie version, she was basically a caricature of a showgirl.

I missed this one in theatres. Had no idea that it was one of several films affected by the writers' strike (2007, 2008). It moved pretty quickly and the editing was kinda on edge. The visuals still feel on point. Well shot for every scene. Storywise, you can still keep with it. Sticking to the course for the era that it's set in. That Craig as Bond is on a journey that are several missions as one resolution. The Bond theme by Jack White & Alicia Keys. Considered underrated, loved or hated. It's pretty good for the production which is JW's fortay. Looks good and moves fast. This is the sportscar of Bond films.

Another great one Jen!!! When this came out, a lot of people criticized it beacuse they thought the plot was weak. They said that the vilains were not as strong because they went for control of ressources like water instead of world domination. What they didn't consider, or were ingnorant of, is that actual corporations do that. Being from a South American country, I know that some private companies, such as Coca-Cola, DO control water access. They do create droughts to get the prices to go up for basic necessities such as drinkable water. If that's not eveil enough or world domination driven enough then I don't know what is. AND IT'S SET IN THE REAL WORLD!!! In my eyes, it shows how much detail the "organisation" behind ita all goes into to dominate the world. The title was taken from an Ian Flemming short story of Bond. It has nothing to do with the scenario here, but it's worth notice. Keep 'em coming Jen, you won't be disappointed. The next one is considered THE best of the Craig's era. Enjoy!

Fantastic reaction, and I agree that David Arnold is amazing. Especially in the opera house sequence which is really quite special. It wasn't 100% clear to me in the reaction that the guy in the trunk at the start was the guy who killed Le Chiffre, and who Bond shot in the leg at the end of Casino Royale in the italian lake area. I guess the start of this is about 3 hours after the end of the previous film.

Audiences expectations of the level and fantastic nature of the action in super-spy movies was changed by Cruise's first _Mission Impossible._ After that the gap between realistic espionage films, such as _Bridge of Spies_ (2015), and the super-spy genre became even wider than it had been previously. Speaking of the opera, you should get into the Marx Brothers, perhaps starting with _A Night at the Opera._

It's actually only 106 min long, one of the shorter Bond films, they normally are all around 2 hrs and some even longer...I felt it was rather too hectic in the first act and could have done with a bit more runtime. Also, as a Bond aficionado I gotta say: A Bond movie is NEVER ever time wasted, even the not-so-good ones! Like in the "Octopussy" title song: "All I wanted was a sweet distraction for an hour or two..." ☺

I’m impressed in recent reactions to this movie more people aren’t complaining about the editing! They made it mid writers strike in 08 and you can tell 😂 plus the director had never done an action movie before and only had 5 weeks to edit the movie, and you can also tell lmao. It was so confusing when I first watched it as a kid me and mom actually left the movie like half way thru lol

Last score that of David Arnold, the next composer will be Thomas Newman (The Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, American Beauty, Road To Perdition, 1917, Meet Joe Black, etc) Great composer, he will be in the next 2 Bond movies and Hans Zimmer, will be in No Time To Die, the final Bond movie.

Daniel Craig's Bond is more "blue color" than the others. He is rougher, more driven, and has a tenacity to complete missions/task/prove himself. He also wears more business casual clothing. He blends in with the population but at the same time you can tell he likes nice things (cars, hotel rooms, clothing). It definitely has more layers to his character than previous bonds.

A lot more physical than other Bonds:The Daniel Craig Bonds were definitely influenced by the Bourne Franchise🎩
@KaterChris
@KaterChris 10 месяцев назад
Especially this one, being heavily influenced by the mega-successful and Academy Award-winning "Bourne Ultimatum" that came out shortly before pre-production started on "Quantum". The influence went so far that they hired one of the editors (Richard Pearson) and the Second Unit Director (Dan Bradley - responsible for most of the action sequences) of "Bourne Ultimatum"...and you can see the direct link - like in the balcony jumps and motorcycle jump and the boat chase is really similar to the New York car chase in "Ultimatum".

In the short story, _Quantum of Solace_ has a more profound meaning: *The Governor paused and looked reflectively over at Bond. He said: 'You're not married, but I think it's the same with all relationships between a man and a woman. They can survive anything so long as some kind of basic humanity exists between the two people. When all kindness has gone, when one person obviously and sincerely doesn't care if the other is alive or dead, then it's just no good. That particular insult to the ego--worse, to the instinct of self-preservation--can never be forgiven. I've noticed this in hundreds of marriages. I've seen flagrant infidelities patched up, I've seen crimes and even murder forgiven by the other party, let alone bankruptcy and every other form of social crime. Incurable disease, blindness, disaster--all these can be overcome. But never the death of common humanity in one of the partners. I've thought about this and I've invented a rather high-sounding title for this basic factor in human relations. I have called it the Law of the Quantum of Solace.'* *Bond said: 'That's a splendid name for it. It's certainly impressive enough. And of course I see what you mean. I should say you're absolutely right. Quantum of Solace--the amount of comfort. Yes, I suppose you could say that all love and friendship is based in the end on that. Human beings are very insecure. When the other person not only makes you feel insecure but actually seems to want to destroy you, it's obviously the end. The Quantum of Solace stands at zero. You've got to get away to save yourself*

I know many people don’t have a high opinion about this title but I’d like to point out a few of its better qualities. First it has a very strong soundtrack, one of the best of any bond movie imo. The other is both the intro sequence and the night at the opera scenes are both some of the best among the Craig movies.

Pfffft, one of the BEST Bond opening songs. Even if JW is a toolbag and did it just to get new gear for his band(s), he and Alicia Keys knocked it out of the park. He played the drums, which most people don't know he can rock. SHE brought it, as always. I would have loved it to be him and Alison Mosshart but it wouldn't have been the same song.

There was a writer's strike while they were working on the script, so Craig and the director tried to punch it up the best they could so they could go into production. That said, I still don't think it's as bad as many people make it out to be. As Bond might say, I rather enjoyed it.

Great reaction Jen! Mission Impossible Rogue Nation did homage plot elements from Daniel Craig's Bond movies at the time, such as that opera scene. Field's death is indeed a reference to Goldfinger, as well as Bond and Camille walking in the desert (along with very similar clothes) to Roger Moore and Barbara Bach in The Spy Who Loved Me.

So I decided to rewatch this movie before watching your reaction, and I actually enjoyed this more than when I rewatched Casino Royale! It has some really bad jump cut editing during the car chases and fight sequences, and also felt like they cut a large chunk of the story out, but I still rather enjoyed it overall! I always enjoy watching this one. Keeping everything connected to the previous film is, until The Craig Era, almost never happened, is great. Seeing Bond still obviously hurting over Vesper instead of just pouring himself a martini and moving on to the next girl was refreshing. Other than arguably, Diamonds Are Forever, that had never been done. And, lastly, I love the way they play the relationship with M. I think he knows she trusts him and is doing the bare minimum to try and stop him. She knows he's on to something and is probably the only person that has a chance of figuring out what is going on.

The very first thing you learn about Daniel Craig’s Bond, no matter which of his movies you see first, is this: he can flat kick your ass. All the other Bond’s were suave, tough, dangerous, and knew how to shoot and fight, but Craig’s Bond, you WILL be injured if you tangle with him, and will PROBABLY die, too.
