Quarken is a high quality Finnish designed and built start up company who have been influenced by the likes of Axopar, Saxdor and Nimbus. In this video we tour the Quarken 27 t-top to discover all the features of this functional day boat.
I believe this will be one of the brands to watch in 2023 as the quality of their first model is exceptionally high. The design is sensible, easy to use and will genuinely bring value to so many people who want to maximise their fun on the water.
If you're looking for that reliable all-rounder then this might just be the boat for you.

Dan, I see trialed this boat a month ago. I just put down my deposit in Fort Lauderdale Florida and will soon be a new, proud owner of the Quarken 27 cabin version. I thought your review was spot on and quite fair to be honest. I looked at Axopar and nimbus and chose the Quarken. I was waiting for your review though just to confirm what I thought I already knew. Thank you for all you do!

G'day Ken! I'm so happy to hear this! When I started this channel it was for people like you because I figured we could communicate more useful information about the different boats via RU-vid. To hear that the content I'm filming is being used for the intended purpose makes me very happy and motivates me to film more for you guys! I think you have purchased a very cool boat so have a great summer and please post a pic of your boat to my facebook one day when you are having a good time with the boat.

Ken, here's hoping you follow up with some observations about your new Quarken 27 as it's the cabin version I also have an interest in. Will be relocating to South Florida soon and the idea of using one of these new designs to revisit the western Bahamas appeals greatly! Congratulations.

@@jacktyler7599 absolutely have no problem with that. I'm going to be running this thing up and down the intracoastal a lot. A trip to Bimini in down to the keys is also on the docket. First I'm getting air conditioning installed so July and august will be bearable. If you're very interested, you should contact the group at Marine connection, They are awesome!. If you would like some information let me know and I'll send it to you

@@byers133 Great to make the connection, Ken. I can think of one thing right off the bat that you can comment on over time: install of the air conditioning! I'd like to think the selection of smaller AC units available can be powered by a Honda 2200 as FL can offer up some truly obnoxious sleeping weather! And after doing 30,000 miles at ~6 knots or so, it's a thrill to think of the cruising speeds these boats offer.

I can tell you right now on the sea trial. This boat just ate up the waves and boat wash at 25 knots. That is what sold me on it. To be honest. It was actually fun to drive, the boat handles quite well. Full report on the air conditioning after it installed which occurs next week

Heck Dan, that's a quiet boat. Was watching a similar French boat being tested yesterday and every time they hit a little wavelette, the whole boat shook and rattled. Love these types of boats, especially with a stepped hull, that just cleanly cut through the water without a fuss and not silly Hp. Cheers mate.
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Год назад
It's because of the design of the hull at the bow. To be fair to the French boat (I'm not sure which boat you're referencing so I'm generalising) it probably has a very luxurious and spacious cabin up forward. It's always a compromise on a boat so if you want the big sexy bed up front you might have to trade if off with poorer handling in choppy water. I do love these stepped hulls and how convenient all of the new boats are becoming though! It's making it possible to go to so many more places and travel in a wider range of weather conditions than what was possible a few years ago.

Dan, since you stated you were an Axopar saleperson and I know you've tested just about if not all of these "similar" hull design vessels (Axopar, Saxdor, nimbus, XO & Quarken) - (There is some company/factory cross design from what I've learned as well). Could you also go the next step and talk about the materials used in the build. I heard some interesting information about a certain manufacture that uses marine plywood for their deck and has "elevated" warranty/repair concerns. Just think with the pricetag of these vessels and the competition....lets take a look "under the hood" per se :). Thanks for your videos.

Yes I sold new Axopar's from 2015 - 2020 and spent another 2yrs selling used ones until I finished all boat sales in January this year. I'm more up to speed on the many issues we had on Axopar's as this was my day job for some time and we had loads of issues. But to be fair we sold loads of boats so when you have a high volume then issues will always be present. A number of people are already requesting a similar type of video so I'm already working on assembling the people to film this for you. I'll bring in boat builders and surveyors for that video so we can explain all the different techniques that are employed. Many builders use marine ply FYI and it's fine if designed and managed properly (eg don't drill into it throught the deck).

Dan, I wanted to support the idea you mentioned below: You mentioned "I have driven all of the boats (Nimbus T9X, Ryck 280, Hydrolift X26S, Quarken 27, Axopar 25, Saxdor 270 and Dromeas 28 WA) except for the Axopar 25. I can film a detailed comparison video on this if enough people are interested." That would be a big contribution to us better understanding this new breed. In my shopping, I'm finding a real conflict in boat choices. Deep V for coastal and Bahamas runs from Florida? Typical choices are all fishing boats and old'ish designs. Comfort and practicality while anchored in the islands or bays for a few days? The choices are typically the French boats with their tulip bows and harsh rides in wave action. This newer breed, if modified a bit for more amenities for weekending and to help deal with occasional snotty weather, seems like it could be the answer for both myself and others with similar ambitions. I believe such a comparison would be a first-timer on RU-vid.
@jacktyler7599
@jacktyler7599 Год назад
Dan, FYI here's an example of what I think we are encouraging: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-9mkqoYNxNvY.html I found the compare & contrast comments helpful, e.g. the comment about Nimbus hull slap when compared with the Axopar. However, one of the boat's designs stands aside the other two and so wasn't as useful, I thought.

Hi Dan. Love your reviews - I think I have watched all of them so far. How would you compare the Quarken 27 to the Ryck 280?
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Год назад
Glad to hear! Similar layout but the Ryck offers a more generous sleeping cabin in terms of volume. Quarken brand has quite a clear vision from what I observe and they have other models and growth already in the pipeline. Ryck offers much the same but at this point in time I am not aware of any other models that they have in the pipeline so I am unsure if Ryck will grow into a family of boats or not? If Ryck is planning this it would be great if they can communicate it because it's nice to know what you're buying into for future resale value etc. I will film more Ryck videos this year and share what I learn because the Hanse Group is an excellent builder with some greeat people behind it so they are capable of big things. I have personally been to the Hanse (Ryck) factory 3 times.

Almost.... Sakari is a friend of mine and yes he was involved in Axopar and Saxdor but not Quarken. Antero and his team are responsible for Quarken. Love the reviews you publish, but I do wish you would use the safety lanyard when driving. You point it out and yet don’t attach to it. Sorry :)
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife
@BoatLife_DansBoatLife Год назад
Thanks Ollie. Oh I always do put it on when it's justified. If I'm entering dangerous water or going to drive dangerously I'll prepare for it by using the lanyard, a lifejacket and even a helmet depending on the boat and speed I'll be doing. We just use common sense with that stuff. There are no rules requiring you to wear jackets or use safety lanyards down here but they do recommend to just use your brain and drive sensibly.

@@BoatLife_DansBoatLife We call ourself Scandinavians, or Nordics, but if we were to nitpick, Finland is part of Fennoscandia. Also the name Quarken is a wordplay on Kvarken, which is the "sea" between Finland and Sweden, more importantly also the sea outside the city of Kokkola where Quarkens (amongst many other) are built. I enjoy your reviews by the way, keep 'em coming!

Want excellent views of what a two-step hull looks like? Dan introduced me to this hull design and I was curious to see one in more detail. Found a Quarken 27 intro video that shows that design in excellent detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QkTHrT6e1Po.html
