Jacob would go on to win an GRAMMY for a jazz arrangement of the Flintstones theme with a (not an exaggeration) *blistering* melodica solo. That's real. Look it up. At this point, getting on stage with Jacob Collier with a melodica takes balls of it's own
They are incredible musicians... top world level quality and ability. But they never "jump in". You think it's like that, but they do have reharsals :)
@@Marius1988Roma They probably usually rehearse alone without the guest soloists they may invite, mostly because the only part where guests play is the improv solo sections. In this case because Jacob sat in with them for the rest of the song, I imagine they did rehearse with him, but most of their other guests have literally just "jumped in." Chris Potter has some pretty obvious giveaway moments on video where he clearly doesn't know the song form but figures it out live in a couple seconds. Happens in both Lingus (Cheltenham jazz fest 2017) and Shofukan (GroundUP music festival 2020). Also seems the same way when they invite Hamilton de Holanda on Lingus, who appears to know the song from popularity but not have any experience actually performing it. He also adapts to all the details very quickly though since they're all pros
7:00 you could tell they were all just so lost in jacobs solo, including jacob himself. Then, the drummer pulled it all in and they all came back in perfectly. That was hilarious
I'm so happy to be finding my music again - two of my favorites Snarky Puppy and Jacob Collier - I'm thrilled and re-invigorated. Jacob, this is what I meant by performing with musicians that push you, instead of the other way around. You played beautifully, and I'm incredibly excited to have both SP and JC as inspirations in my musical world. Thank you all!
@@GrumpyStormtrooper No, it isn't. It's currently suffering from "Ukulele syndrome" but it has been used seriously since it was invented. People said the same thing about Sax until it found it's place in Jazz.... Try listen to some Augustus Pablo on melodica and you will probably change your mind :)
@@leeda36 at the end of the live studio version, after Shawn Martin's solo, Michael League presents him and says "Shawn Martin on piano. Literally on the piano", since he ended the solo by climbing the piano. Here something similar happened ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i1cskIan5Jw.html
So you would do it much better, right? ... LMAO You could tell that JC it's a remarkable ongoing phenomena and playing with seasoned musicians it's just a step in jazz-wise development ... entonces no weís poh wn! peace :D
Bassist took a bit of liberty, I imagined he would’ve brought something to the table? It’s a fun jam once it begins though they sound like they’re not really listening to each other. Maybe it is the recording.
Psychedelta Blues 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 oooooohhhhh ahhhhhh. You're welcome for the video, How about you enjoy the Music without high mighty approach you seem to have.
Nathaniel Hope yeah, I might have been a little bitter yesterday. Sorry about that haha. I just think music has the quick tendency to become about showing off (I do this too) instead of the music itself, but no need to be a dick about it, I agree. Thx for the upload
