Rasputin, the undead psycho sorcerer from the 1997 animated movie (based on an actual historical figure) is replaced by Gleb Vaganov (the last name comes from an actual guard who took part in killing the Romanovs) a Bolshevik. He has feelings for Anya, but is conflicted by his superior’s orders to kill her...

I would 1000% recommend the show

Skylar van Voorst I don't know if you mean you don't know what's going on, but let me try to help ^^. Anastasia was a movie a lot of people ended up growing up with in their childhood. It is about the Russian Royalty being overthrown, (There's no mention of any communist ideals though, just the character of Rasputin). In this rendition, Anastasia (her original name is Anastasia, her orphaned name is Anya) survives and has no idea who she is until being led to Paris by Dmitri to pretend to be herself in exchange for fortune. The thing is, when she's meeting her grandmother, they both end up realizing in the end that they *are* related and yada yada yada. The musical, what you're listening to now, follows _almost_ the same story. The primary antagonist of the musical is a man named Gleb, rather than Rasputin. The musical is less fairytale like, and it follows Russian history more than the movie. This fictional character, Gleb, suspects and confirms Anya to be _the_ Anastasia. Being a communist General moving through the ranks, Gleb is torn. It is revealed that Gled truly does have feelings for Anastasia, but feels he must kill her to honor his father and his uniform. To have a Romanov alive? That would go against all communist ideas. I suggest you listen to the musical, but in particular, listen to "The Neva Flows" reprise. It has to be the reprise, because that song in particular beautifully illustrates his conflict.

The whole song is from Anastasia Broadway Musical, but some of the music within the song (that is meant to be the actual Ballet the characters are watching) is swan lake (0.27-0.42) and (1.36-1.42)

I've heard this tune in Once Upon A December which I'm assuming is a part of this musical.

Nonononono the longer haired woman sitting alone is the grandmother to the girl, and the guy sitting with the girls is a con man supposed to reunite her with her grandmother but falls in love with her, and the loner guy is supposed to kill her because she is the last remaining Romanov and his father killed her family but he’s fallen in love with her too
