Today we're going to take a look at the Quartz Mountain Geological Reserve near Talbot, which is home to the largest surviving pure quartz outcrop in Victoria.
This incredible mass of quartz stands over six metres high and runs in a north-south line for around 800 metres. In one spot, a massive forty tonne boulder balances precariously on top of the reef.
This is a brilliant place for bushwalking and photography, where you can explore the rocky ridge, climb to the top and take in the views of the surrounding bushland.

I wonder if that reef has ever had a deep drill hole on it? The fact that it strikes north south is very interesting also. Really interesting video, as always.

G'day frist thing with that Red hair your Friends would never loose you in the bush, all the Gold bearing reef in Victoria seam to run North to South with saddles in the reef being some of the riches ground, reef that are close to the surface can sometimes be the remnants of a once rich deep reef that had shed it's riches into the gully below, great video thanks so much, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.

@@goldfieldsguide G'day mate, follow up on today's meeting, tour was great food was better, it opened up my eyes as to how this type of mining process so mechanised and you don't see any trace of Gold, the smelting area a no go, talked about your show might have a few new fans, as an photographer No was the answer, however that do have a open day for the public surface only tour and in Buses, did find out that the Gold bearing ground runs North to the Murray amazing, test holes prove the ground rich enough, will check their wed site and pass on tour dates if interested, cheers Neil 🤠.

Thanks for another great goldfields video. We use your channel & website all the time to find cool places to explore in the goldfields. We visited Quartz mountain recently and also had a look at the Aboriginal Birthing tree on the way home.
