Today we're going to take a look at the Quartz Mountain Geological Reserve near Talbot, which is home to the largest surviving pure quartz outcrop in Victoria.
This incredible mass of quartz stands over six metres high and runs in a north-south line for around 800 metres. In one spot, a massive forty tonne boulder balances precariously on top of the reef.
This is a brilliant place for bushwalking and photography, where you can explore the rocky ridge, climb to the top and take in the views of the surrounding bushland.
