Great video 'tour of the Victorian gold fields' - very informative. However, I think your title maybe somewhat misleading. Now, I accept it may well by my ignorance, and misunderstanding but, I was expecting to 'Learn how to use Google earth to find gold locations'. I do accept this information you provide can be employed to assist in locating general regions containing gold, you made no attempt, whatsoever, to demonstrate the 'definite statement' claimed within your title. Either, stick to your stated topic, or, choose the title AFTER creating the video, in case it needs to be edited.
Excellent history and commentary. The Walhalla Gold Company was active in the 1980's and continued on for some time before striking it, I can't remember when. I recall their modern shares hit about $2.80 thereabouts after rising and falling between 8 and 12 cents or years. How the hell people worked in that country I'll never know. Thankyou for the video and your time.
Hi Michelle...Michael was my great great grandfather...you obviously did your research into his story...well done...did you read about his daughter dying after she was burned from a candle....very sad story..keep your stories coming...very interesting 😊
Thanks so much for your excellent vids Michelle! I and my fellow Epic Tourists have been visiting Maldon, Fryerstown etc. Your informative presentations are bringing alive for us these fascinating, old Victorian diggings.
A Terrific Historical Video Michelle with the best Photographs of Old Stawell i've ever seen , too bad my Stawell born father couldn't see this he would be thrilled! Thanks again
My house sits on top of the Sebastopol lead which was the longest lead as it followed the ancient watercourse of the Yarrowie River the longest river in the Ballarat area. Ballarat held the world record for a time in the largest solid gold nugget ever found-the Welcome nugget at 0ver 2000 ounces of pure gold. The miner who found it imbedded in the roof of a tunnel, fainted. Other miners were pulled out unconscious. Kitty's lead just South of here produced many more large nuggets than any other places mentioned in the Red Nugget Book from 6 inches depth to 6 feet. They say the Bendigo mines produced 60 tonnes of gold and due to the groundwater has still as much left there.
Spent a few weeks camping there in the early 60's,crawled around the long tunnel mine,no guided tours no tourism,no restrictions, camped at the old railway yards, just a bare plot of land then.
G'day, I grew up in Ballarat, know the stories and the history. The one thing left out is how did these people locate an area that might have gold and then, how much work did it take to get to it. I have seen a lot of the places shown in your video here. The little plaques on them do nothing to explain just how complex of a social structure was being built around a now rusting machine. Thanks for the video, live long and prosper. P.S. I used to be a stonemason, Doesn't matter who you are one day someone like me will be making your headstone. I have put in quite a few and read many others. It seems most people want to be seen as giving a shit about others and hoping their family gets on in life. That to me is people when boiled down to the basics. We are all people no matter where we are from.
Dam Michelle, you continue to out do yourself each time. This is an amazing video and we can appreciate the time you've put into it. And look at you go showing yourself! We love seeing you!
Very enjoyable and detailed story, thanks. Always goes down well with those suffering gold fever. I detected across Oz in a very amateur fashion, with a total of 10g x 3 nuggets. It's a buzz when you pick up something no one else has ever touch. No fortune, but nothing is better, at least for me is to travel our great continent/island hoping to find that 2oz nugget and there are plenty still out there even now. You just need to have a certain resilience to heat cold and a 'rough life' and love of stars that go from horizon to horizon. I'm 73 and if I had the chance would teleport to WA to some favourite spots, alas Ive missed my chance. Thanks I have subscribed.
