Hobbs End, Knightsbridge, London. While working on a new subway tunnel for the London Underground, a group of construction workers uncover a strangely shaped skull. Nearby, another discovery: a large, mysterious and impenetrable metal object. Initially mistaken for an unexploded bomb, the object and its strange power turn out to be far more horrific than anybody could have possibly imagined. Is it of this earth? Could it be the ancestral link to mankind's evolution? Or could it be an ancient link to the unleashing of the ultimate evil? When I was a kid, I learned about the Quatermass franchise by reading about it in Starlog magazine; they had a lengthy article on Nigel Neal, the creator of Quatermass. Anyway, I remember when this aired on late night tv on WGN. I invited a friend over to watch it with me. He fell asleep before it aired but I was able to stay awake for half of it (I was able to record the other half onto VHS). It creeped me out. Looking forward to purchasing the Blu-ray.

In 1959 when this started on the telly we used to hop around the playground shouting "I'm a tripod arthropod. I'm a tripod arthropod". The simplest things amuse English kids.

i watched this movie when i was a kid at the time we had only black and white televisions and it was screened at nine pm if my memory serves me i hide behind the sofa when the scary parts came on for its time it had an impact on many even though it was sci fi it sparked my imagination in ways that i never imagined before

Watched this tonight, the trailer does make it look dated but its really not tho that may be cos ur pulled into their world , its a great film..very interesting and damn good storyline

This one of my favorite movies. The US title is Five Million Years To Earth. I have it on DVD. I wish they would sell this movie on streaming platforms so that more people could see it.

Apparently this was the film that influenced John Carpenter to make Prince of Darkness. It looks horribly dated, but I'm tempted to watch it.

He wasn't influenced by this film specifically for Prince of Darkness. Carpenter was just a fan of the Quatermass Hammer movies in general and used the pseudonym Martin Quatermass on Prince of Darkness as a kind of homage.

@@NovaFeedback1979 too many similarities not to be an influence. Artifact is dug up which influences the outside while scientists race to study it, eventually resulting in an apocalypse-type scenario.

This movie is high class science fiction with outstanding acting. I saw it on TV in 1970, and just recently in 2015. It scared the bejesus out of me both times.

@@holden6104Yeah, the blending of religious horror elements and science fiction elements is very similar, as is the use of scientists as main characters, and the application of scientific study to a seemingly metaphysical threat. Quatermass & the Pit approaches it from the science fiction side and leans over the border into horror, Prince of Darkness from the horror side and leans over into sci-fi. Quatermass hints that its ancient aliens are the inspiration for the religious idea of Satan, while Prince of Darkness hints that its Satan has an extraterrestrial or extradimensional origin... When you look at it that way, both share many of the same parts/ideas/themes, just put together in different amounts.

Stupenda pellicola, certo non è chissà che cosa ma come i due precedenti capitoli è piacevole da seguire, ci sono degli errori come il fatto che un uomo intelligente come Ronei avrebbe dovuto sapere che non era abbastanza pesante da usare il suo peso per spostare la gru bloccata, quindi stupenda e stupenda per me come valutazione è 8.

The film may look dated to some modern viewers, but still contains interesting ideas, covering superstition, supernatural, the origin of our species, the nature of evil inherant in Man. It isn't our fault that humans can be aggressive, murder and cause wars. The ancient Martians are to blame! 👿

Good film, albeit slightly overrated IMO. Seems to me its reputation is built more upon the high regard for the people involved in its making than what the movie actually is.
