It's not every day the Queen turns up at a cabinet meeting. In fact it last happened in peacetime almost 250 years ago. It was a special visit to mark her Diamond Jubilee, and, Downing Street said, to thank her for her public service.
How Kate Williams looks at Tony Ben when he first speaks is so telling, she understands his greatness, she sits as if listening to a leader of the people, which of course Tony was. The greatest PM Britain never had, a man who could run circles around the leaders of today. A great loss.
"the queen said little, though the state of the nation's finances was clearly preoccupying her." Well then isn't that proof that the planet's ruling dynasties are WAY above the mere kings and countrymen, democracy etc.
The cabinet is a committee of Her Majesty's Privy Council and it is HER government. There is nothing wrong with that, most especially if the topics during the visit is purely a kind gesture
Unbelievable to see those who are supposed to be the people's representatives kowtowing like that. Time for the UK to grow up and leave kings and queens in the fairy stories where they belong.
The royal family plays a crucial role in the running of the country. Especially the Queen. Simply getting rid of an institution because it is old is ridiculous. We should get rid of something when it no longer has use. Our Monarchy is useful. They bring in more than we pay them.
Growing up is not synonymous with ditching the monarchy. It is even worse for the UK to have an elected head of state who just bows not to the people but to the "generous" donors for his/her election campaign.
