That lead singer is none other than the incomparable legend, Freddie Mercury - the greatest showman, vocalist, and composer in rock history. Watch and react to more and you'll understand why. I'd suggest reacting to "Somebody to Love (Live at Montreal) next. It is incredible and was actually Freddie's favorite Queen song. A little background about Queen: They're a British rock band that was formed in 1970. Although they're rock, they vary their sound album to album and track to track, and have incorporated everything from rockabilly, disco, folk, ragtime, and even opera into their sound at one time or another. They're known for their charismatic stage presence and for hits like: We are the Champions, We Will Rock You, Another One Bites the Dust, I Want It All, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Bohemian Rhapsody (which you listened to), and tons more. Odds are you've heard Queen a million times but just didn't know who they were. The band is made up of Freddie Mercury (lead vocalist and front man), Roger Taylor (drummer), Brian May (guitarist), and John Deacon (bassist). All of them are EXTREMELY talented and accomplished and are one of the only bands where every member has written a number one hit. Queen had a stunning 20 year long run filled with many, many world tours and 15 studio albums. It was all tragically cut short in November of 1991 though, as Freddie died of complications due to AIDS. He worked right up until he died though, with his final song (almost) completed just weeks before he passed. Following his death, John Deacon retired from music. In an effort to keep Freddie's legacy alive and to honor his memory, Brian and Roger continued Queen and still do to this day, currently touring with Adam Lambert.
Michael Jackson was a huge Queen fan. He collaborated on a few tracks with Freddie, but Freddie couldn’t take it anymore when Michael insisted on bringing a llama into the studio. MJ did convince them to release “Another one bites the dust” as a single. (The live version at Wembley in 1986 is excellent) In 2014, Queen did release a Freddie/Michael collaboration on a compilation album called Queen Forever. The band was together from 1971-1991 when Freddie died. But, he left behind so much recorded music that they eventually went back into the studio and pieced together the album Made in Heaven in 1995. I’m sure that you know other Queen songs. We Will Rock You & We are the Champions especially. Their live performances are almost always better than the studio version. Here’s the link to the Freddie/MJ song: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wIVsLeOuSMs.html
In about 20 days you have over 13K views and you've only done 1 more queen song. Man, what does it take to get you on board!? Queen fans are hard core. Please react to more Queen.
@Dennis19901 I already do, but it doesn't change my mind. I listen any other songs more than I listen Queen and yes there were/are too many great vocals/singers, but Freddie was/is still the best vocalist ever.
Deep, deep rabbit hole!!!!! One of the top bands of all time ! Your gonna love EVERY song! They were all great but Freddie Mercury commanded the stage! Gone way to soon!!!!!!!!!!
They were a UK rock band, although they didn't just do rock songs. Their music covers many genres, from speed metal (Stone Cold Crazy live at The Rainbow) to music hall/ragtime (Seaside Rendezvous) and from diss tracks (Death On Two Legs) to love songs (You Take My Breath Away live at Hyde Park 1976). They all wrote hit songs for the band. Freddie had the stage presence and personality to have any crowd eating out of his hand. Not to mention there wasn't much he couldn't sing, he had an amazing vocal range and unique vibrato. They literally rocked the world in July 1985 when they were one of the many acts that performed for the charity concert Live Aid to raise money for Etheopean famine victims. Between their musical performance and Freddie's mastery over the crowd they stole the show and that 20 minute set has been voted the best live rock performance.
I love the contradictions, from I'm in love with my car to Seaside Rendezvous, to Save Me, even Party/Kashoggis Ship from Miracle, then Show must go on to say goodbye. best band ever, I've known Queen my whole life, will love them to the day I die, and hope to tell Freddie that in heaven someday
There is nothing better than watching young people, fall in love with the bands we loved & grew up with!!! Loved your reaction & you brought a smile to this old lady ❤️ 💚 💜
This was released in 1975, hence the glam rock clothes, they are a British rock group. It was revolutionary then and still is, I remember hearing it for the first time on the radio and it just blew me away. The opening chorus is just Freddie multi tracking his voice 5 times for the harmony, the others Brian, Roger and John sing the rest of the harmonies with Freddie, it's a classic.
Joanne Darley Deacon doesn’t sing on the song. Watch the YT video “Inside the Rhapsody”. The longer version is best. Brian goes through the entire process of how the song was recorded. I’ve watched it several times and it’s still fascinating.
Thank you for checking out Queen. And you just enjoyed your 1st rock journey...Rock is about a journey and that song embodies a journey. They live is incredible! Live Aid really shows the power Freddy Mercury (Lead Singer) had over the crowds
Freddie Mercury was the master of crowd control. Their live performances filled stadiums back in the day. Freddie did actually record a track with Michael Jackson called "There must be more to life than this". You will find it on YT. It was never released but it was meant to be on the Thriller album. Give it a try. Thanks man
Queen is timeless!! You can’t go wrong with any of their music. I think Pentatonix paid a wonderful tribute by covering this and sounded amazing. This is by NO means an easy song to perform much less try to cover and no one does it like Queen. That’s just facts.
This wasn’t actually a live performance. The song was #1 on the charts, and the British show “Top of the Pops” wanted them to appear & do it live. They were going to be out of the country, so they went into their rehearsal studio and “made this little film” using some very simple camera techniques. Music videos did not yet exist. They then matched the film with the song track. It’s all explained on a wonderful YT video called “Inside the rhapsody”. Queen was the GOAT, & Freddie Mercury was/is the greatest frontman for any band, ever. Watch their live stuff.
Dude, Im sure You must have heard songs like Another One Bites the Dust, We Wil Rock You or We are the Champions - played at most if not all sporting events - well, there You go - thats Queen.
There's no doubt that the PTX version is fantastic, especially considering that it is completely a capella. That being said, nothing will ever beat this, the original.
Freddie Mercury is the lead singer . They're from UK but he is from India originally . Lady Gaga ' s dad gave her that name from one of Queen's songs -"Radio Gaga" . Vanilla Ice stole their music and was sued by them and Queen won . They're amazing ❤️
Freddie was born in Tanzania, to parents of Parsi descent, but went to a british style boarding school in India from a young age. His family came to England when he was in his late teens due to civil unrest in Tanzania when they broke from British rule.
@@samloveslfc I mean the Parsis have been settled in India since more than 1000 years - Freddie's specific community in Gujarat i think to be precise - and he initially held Indian nationality, so it's pretty fair to call him Indian.
The lead singer was Freddie Mercury. Mercury died in 1991 at age 45 due to complications from AIDS. He confirmed the day before his death that he had contracted the disease, having been diagnosed in 1987. Gone but NEVER FORGOTTEN
Everyone below has basically already said what I have to say, but great reaction! I'd love to see Somebody to Love live in Montreal 1981 too, and also all of their 20-minute set at Live Aid 1985 (best rock performance in history!) There are so many other great live shows, but if you haven't heard the studio version (official videos) of "Fat Bottomed Girls" or "Another One Bites the Dust" I'd check those out too. The official video for "The Show Must Go On" (my favorite Queen song) also shows a lot of career highlights. It's not a "real" music video, though, as Freddie was too sick - it was recorded months away from his death in 1991, and he had to prop himself up on the recording studio table and take shots of vodka to get through it. The whole song is about continuing forward despite knowing he didn't have much time left, though the audience didn't know that at the time. He famously said "I'll f**cking do it, darling" when guitarist Brian May was concerned about his health - he could barely walk - and ability to sing such a hard song.
Thank you for the excellent reaction. Queen is made up of four people: Lead singer, piano, guitar - Freddie Mercury; Guitar, keyboard, piano, backup singer - Brian May; Bass - John Deacon; Drums, backup singer - Roger Taylor. May I suggest next you listen to Queen - Somebody To Love - HD Live - 1981 Montreal ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aA2IRoPFIn0.html - and then Queen - Another One Bites the Dust (Live at Wembley) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fSqabIPCOek.html It was Michael Jackson who strongly recommended to Queen that they release Another One Bites the Dust as a single. They did and it was a huge hit. With the exception of Bohemian Rhapsody and a few others their live performances were IMO better than the studio versions. Enjoy!
Queen is awesome. You will never regret diving into their music catalog. All 4 members sing, have degrees, are in the Rock n Roll hall of Fame but each member has at least 3 top ten hits and are in the Songwriters hall of Fame individually.
And now you can understand the insurmountable task Pentatonix had trying to do this masterpiece justice. They pioneered using so many different sounds, techniques and genres all in one song. Absolutely breathtaking song!
Freddie Mercury had a 4-5 octave vocal range which is rare and is the reason why he is considered one of the best, if not the best, vocalists of all time. Their live performance at Live Aid is still considered the best live rock performance in history.
I am a 59 year old gay Aussie DJ. I grew up with Queen. They're one of the best groups of all time. Brian May the lead guitarist has been voted the best in the world. We lost Freddie to HIV in 1991. Their music is timeless.
Best voice in the best most professional band that ever performed. Every live concert was a revelation. Try 1976 Hyde Park live as Freddie sings like an angel the song “You Take My Breath Away”. Keep checking them out. They made songs for everyone.
Freddie was born in Tanzania but his family made England their home and the rest is history. The rest of the band are born in England. Freddie was not just a musician he was an entertainer as seen from their live aid performance, which I urge you watch as you really see how they perform live and freddie really goes for it.
I was lucky enough to go to the Live Aid concert at Wembley on July 13,1985. Obviously, that means I am passed my prime but the performance of Queen that day will live with me forever. Freddie totally owned the stage and the crowd.
Eru Cooper I was born on Bougainville, PNG, and was not even 5 yet when Live Aid was aired, all I remember is being too young to watch it because it was on in the middle of the night 😂 .. way past my bed-time lol... We recorded it though, I remember watching it so vividly .. I am not sure if I saw the Bohemian Rhapsody video first on Rage though, or whether it was Live Aid when I first saw them ! Damn Rage was good, I watched it when I was small right up until we moved to the UK, saw all the greats, there has never been a music channel like it?! Certainly not here in the UK.. I miss 24/7 music videos !!
God's of Rock. Heard this song for 45 years and it still sends a shiver up my spine! All my kids came up to me when they were around 14 and asked if I've heard this song cuz they loved it so much. Generation after generation love this.
I can't believe you never heard Bohemian Rhapsody before! Queen is a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury (lead vocals, piano), Brian May (guitar, vocals), Roger Taylor (drums, vocals) and John Deacon (bass). Their earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works by incorporating further styles, such as arena rock and pop rock.
Your face says it all. You're so right, Michael Jackson was so special and Freddie Mercury does have that beautiful aura too. It's such a shame we lost both of them. Just imagine what they could have done if they'd lived.
Queen was probably the most educated rock band ever. Freddie Mercury - degree in Art & Graphic Design, Roger Taylor - Biology, John Deacon - Electronics & Brian May - Astrophysics (& recently completed his doctorate after a 30-year hiatus).
Welcome to Queen!!! Somebody to Love, Montreal, 81. Live Aid, 1985. Another One Bites the Dust, 86. Watch them live when you can. They are one of the bands that sounds better Live than in the Studio. Freddie and Michael Jackson were friends. Two greats gone! I have subscribed! :)
Freddie Mercury, the singer, did a number of songs with MJ. All haven't been released. Story goes, Freddie went to MJ's recording studio and recorded, but never finished. As "Rumor" has it, Freddie called his manager Miami (Jim Beach), and told him to arrange to get him out of there because, it was one thing that MJ's Chimp, I forget his name, was there, but when the Llama was in the recording studio, Freddie couldn't take it. Tidbit: MJ convinced Queen to release "Another One Bites The Dust" as a single. Which they did and opened the doors to a "Queen Disco Album, 'Hot Space', which all but sealed their fate with American Fans. The Bass Player John and Freddie wanted to make the album. The Drummer Roger and Guitarist Brian were against the album and hated it. They lost US (Americans) for a while. I happened to like SOME of that album.
Both Freddie and Michael had the incredible ability to just take over a show and captivate the audience. Truly great frontmen that both unfortunately died way too young.
Freddie Mercury (Farrokh Bulsara) was Parsi (indian-persian), a son of immigrants, born in Zanzibar, and a naturalized UK citizen. He never had his teeth fixed, even if they made him very self-conscious, but he feared it would impact his voice... which, btw went from a low F2 to a soprano high F6 with a falsetto, with his F5 tenor being his strongest high note. While that is certainly not the widest range, his was very clear and unforced with a vibrato that few manage to get, and it sounded much wider than that of many other voice talents. Queen was a phenomenon that still holds up today after more than 40 years.
Since this is your first Queen song, I would look at some of the early stuff like, Stone Cold Crazy, Liar, Tie Your Mother Down, and White Queen. Those are all early 70's. When you get into the late 70's, and early 80's you'll start to recognize some of the songs. You'll just be saying "I didn't know that was by Queen!!!!" I see someone suggested Somebody to Love, live in Monreal '81 and it is fantastic. Anything they did live in that concert is outstanding. They are one of the few bands who sound as good, if not better, in some cases than their studio versions. Freddie Mercury is the best front man who ever picked up a microphone! No one has, or had a voice like him.
You should watch the movie, Bohemian Rhapsody...A treat for the ears. Bo Rap is three songs in one and Freddie meshed them together to make this masterpiece...He was a musical genius...John deacon is on bass...awesome bassist and so chilled out. he was studying electrical engineering. Roger Taylor is on drums...a freaking animal who was going to be a dentist and Dr Brian May is on guitar...arguably one of the best guitarists in the world. He is also an astrophysicist. He was just as incredible live...if not more so. if you haven't already, check out their set at Live Aid...Wembley doesn't have a roof but if it did, they would've blown it all the way off. As it's been said before, hardly anyone in the 70,000 strong crowd there that day was a Queen fan, (as they were the last to be booked and no one knew about it), yet by the time they left EVERYBODY was a Queen fan. So greatly missed Freddie.
Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury are 2 of the greatest showmen to have existed, I have been a big Queen fan since I was a youngster Freddie's voice has to be one of the best and I recommend anyone that has not looked into their music to do so as they have plenty of Albums out there worth a listen.
I have been watching the reaction to this video by your generation. It has been an experience. I am glad to see you guys are open to hear this music. I wasn't when they first came out. I was into Jazz and soul. As I got older I began broadening my horizons. You young folks are doing it early. That's good. Keep up with shit going on around you. Know your history. History will tell you a lot. Why? Because history repeats itself. Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar. Emigrated to England when he was around 12. I forget now. He and M.J were friends.
Greatest vocalist of all time. Not even close. And RE: you MJ comment. MJ reminds you of them so much because he was a HUGE queen fan and took a lot of inspiration from them.
Check out the Green Day Hyde Park gig in 2017 when 60,000 Brits sang this while waiting for the band...its so epic and shows why this song should be our national anthem lol
if you want to see the power of this song on a crowd of people, look up "Green Day Bohemian Rhapsody". This was before a Green Day concert started and Queen began to play over the loudspeakers. The reaction was spontaneous and glorious.
I've watched literally Dozens of RU-vid reactions to "FIRST TIME" Watching Bohemian Rhapsody. Yours was luke warm..kinda like it wasn't your 1st time..🎧😎
Man, you are an intelligent and receptive listener. The best thing you could do for yourself is immerse yourself in 1960s & 1970s music and you will NEVER regret it. I promise u. Forget 21st Century music. It's NOTHING.
You've most likely heard bits of this in the movies Wayne's world or Suicide Squad. Maybe you've heard a lot of their songs, but didn't recognize it was Queen. They wrote tons of hits such as We will rock you, We are the champions, Don't stop me now, Another one bites the dust, Under pressure (duet with David Bowie), Somebody to love, Killer Queen, One Vision, Radio Gaga, Crazy little thing called love, etc. The best part of Queen is they don't have just one genre, they don't mean one thing: they still are limitless, timeless, cross genres and even now their music is a breath of air because of their pure genius talent. Also, in case your wondering, the band rarely if ever told people what their songs were about, they rather let the individuals interpret it for themselves. That being said, a popular interpretation of the "mama just killed a man" part of Bohemian Rhapsody is Freddie Mercury coming out as gay and that his old straight self is dead, thats just one of them. Whatever kinds of music you like, they will have done it. I recommend you check out seven seas of rye or Stone cold crazy, both live at the rainbow or either Dragon Attack or Somebody to love both live at Montreal etc. Your in for a crazy ride, enjoy!
Great reaction Queen are a British band with Freddie Mercury vocals, Brian may guitar, John Deacon bass and Roger Taylor drums sadly Freddie died in 1991 you should react to somebody to love live in Montreal 81 they also went from 70s 80s and 90s they still perform today with Adam Lambert
Seeing all those scify toys on your desk there I ALREADY LIKE IT !😜🤗 Where do you think Michael got the idea for the silver glove from ????Freddie did it first.... All of the greatest artists steal. They combine, add, subtract, change it up, make it their own. Michael also borrowed moves from the late great Bob Fosse. Check out the movie All that Jazz and you will see how Michael borrowed moves added to them and made them his own. I love MJ as well ! You can’t love music without loving Michael !
Freddie Mercury was born in Zanzibar, the band formed in England, but as someone else mentioned, check out their live aid set, this is where they got their legendary status from
Freddie and Michael recorded a song too by the way. Freddie admired Michael. And incidentally, this song was Freddie's coming out of the closet to the world. "just killed a man" is a reference to him laying to rest his old self and persona that everyone had grown to know publicly and was now EMBRACING what he had fought with for years....being homosexual. The song is honestly MORE BEAUTIFUL once you realize this. This also explains all the "drama" in the song, it's supposed to be him fighting with his inner demons and conscience. Freddie was a genius and a pure vocalist! Wonderful singer.
Queen the band and Freddie Mercury lead singer performer Entertainer visionary they will live on forever Freddie Mercury passed away in 1991 got what's a band Queen in the early 70s and needless to say outstanding outstanding outstanding singer performer theatrical singer. And yes him and Michael Jackson were friends. They were going to make a few tracks together which they did but Michael Jackson thought he was a little too hard and The Rock and didn't care for it so it never got on vinyl. Freddie Mercury is an idol and will live on as that you will hear his music to this day 28 years after he passed away and the band Queen is still performing two of the original band members to this day only their lead singer is Adam Lambert. Long Live Queen and I love you Freddie Mercury forever can't say enough good things about him
It doesn't surprise me that you see Michael Jackson. Greats follow the greats, after all. Freddie (lead) was a huge fan of Elvis and actually worked with MJ on one or two songs before he passed in 91. Vocals, showmanship, stage presence, they all 3 had it in spades.
If you haven’t done it yet please do queen somebody to love live in Montreal. For me the greatest live performance from any artist or band ever, also the greatest front man performance. It’s simply a must watch for anybody serious about music. I really enjoyed your reaction to this.
This song was a technical feat in it's time and put what could be done with the equipment of the time to the test. It wasn't like it is today where something could be spliced over and over without destroying what you made if something wasn't done right it could ruin the whole song. I can see the MJ Freddie Mercury parallels both fantastically talented singers with just an incredible stage presence they owned the stages they graced.
There is a ton of info out there on Queen if you want it. These are 4 highly educated, highly motivated and talented young men. They are a British group, and the two remaining members are touring with Adam Lambert right now. Sadly Freddie Mercury died of complications from AIDS in 1991. That guitar solo is Brian May who has a Ph.D. In astrophysics! This so innovative yet Freddie went to his grave with what this is about. What a great band! Learn more and dive into their HUGE catalog of music, both recorded and live. You can’t categorize them into one genre.
@@WARxTOY Lord, the list is endless, I would do Somebody to Love live in Montreal, White Queen live Hammersmith Odeon, just to start. His live shows are unbelievable. Of course, I'm partial. Been listening to Queen since the beginning.
it still amazes me that some people in their 20' and up have no clue about queen! specially since etc, america uses their songs on so many sport events, like "we will rock you or"we are the champions.
Please react to more Queen songs... You'll become a huge fan! You might want to react to Somebody to Love (live at Montreal '81), Another one bites the Dust, Don't Stop me Now, Innuendo, The Show Must go On, I Want it All, I Want to break free, The Great Pretender, Under Pressure (with David Bowie), Who Wants to Live Forever, Love of my Life (LIVE), Its a Hard Life, Hammer to Fall, Killer Queen, Crazy Little Things Called Love, Fat Bottomed Girls, We Will Rock You, We Are the Champions, A Kind of Magic, One Vision, Radio GaGa, Stone Cold Crazy & much more hits... And FOR SURE their 1985 LIVE AID performance (30 minutes of greatness)! There are also lead singer Freddie Mercury's solo songs like Barcelona, Living on my Own... ENJOY! :)
Freddie is a musical god. Never be another. But don't sleep on the rest of the band. The guitarist, Brian May, is a actual rocket scientist! He has a PhD in astrophysics!
