I think they’d be happy to see it. From their perspective, they wanted to meet Britain in the middle and negotiate. But hands were forced. But there was still even then an affinity for Britain, juxtaposed with wanting to be independent. I think how our countries bonded would make them happy in the end.
@@dkaik Even many of the founders were more than eager to rekindle relations with Britain. Especially John Adams and Alexander Hamilton. Those two laid down the foundation for the special relationship that exists today between the US and the UK.
@@Intrepid_Crusader1096 Yep. I tried to phrase it in not hard black and white. How we viewed our relationship with Britain then was for sure also a part of very beginning on the formation of partisan politics in our country, with those lines being drawn then. It’s fascinating to study
President Macron of France summed the Queen up nicely in paying tribute. “To you, she was your Queen. To us, she was The Queen. She will be with all of us forever."
@@euphegenia What was despicable? You frankly did not listen to her speech nor understand the time in history this took place. This woman earned respect throughout the world not merely because she was a queen, but because she greatly recognized the serious problems of the changing world, the horrible costs of war, and the wisdom to spearhead a future of peace while working to correct the horrible history which preceded her reign. World leaders sought her sage advice and guidance while she never took a political side whatsoever.
“I cannot lead you into battle, I do not give you laws or administer justice, but I can do something else. I can give you my heart and my devotion to these old islands and to all the peoples of our brotherhood of nations.” Queen Elizabeth II, in her own words: Her most memorable remarks.
@@petonchiospataponchio366 No she didn’t. She made these remarks during her annual Christmas Day broadcast in 1957, from Sandringham Norfolk. The part where she says “these old islands” is probably a useful clue that’s she isn’t in South Africa. It was Margaret Thatcher that tried to cosy up to the white government in South Africa, and Elizabeth II who stretched the boundaries of impartiality, more than she did at any other time, to pressure Thatcher into not going against the rest of the Commonwealth and their condemnation of the apartheid government.
For those commenting on the raucous applause -- I think the historical context for it has been forgotten. The Queen started the speech with an ad lib joke, delivered with perfect dead-pan dry British comedic timing, which caught everyone off guard. A day or two earlier she was welcomed to Washington with a ceremony on the White House lawn. She wore a tailored purple suit topped with a matching wide brimmed hat, trimmed in white. President Bush (the first), much taller then she was, spoke at the podium first. He was supposed to press a pedal with his foot when he finished, to adjust the podium electrically to her height. He forgot. So she read her remarks with only the big purple hat visible. The press and late night comedians had a field day with this. Front page news. Dubbed "The Talking Hat" 😁. So here she took the opportunity to make light of all the hullabaloo in a very dignified, droll, and self-deprecating manner. No one expected this -- look at the faces of the audience smiling and laughing! The American and British press went even wilder over this than the hat incident itself!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Thanks and God bless you for this historical lecture Man. I paused the video and read your comment before she spoke. While the first applaud was still on. So when she dropped the joke, it got me dying🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Incredible change! A British monarch addressing congress would have the USAs founding fathers floored. But it just goes to show how beautifully tied the two nations are, and how much respect is there between the two.
No what would really have them floored is is knowing that their republic devolved into a democracy. Something they were much more opposed to; as it’s ‘mob rule’ and not the ‘rule of law’
You can tell she was a bit overwhelmed by the Americans reactions. We loved her just as much as her people did. We might not even know the depth of her public service, but we Americans have always held her in high admiration for her love of country, her graciousness, and her devout service to her land.
@@TheoneandonlyMiscavage hi! I’m not entirely sure if you’ve kept up on modern events since the revolutionary war but since then the brittish have been our Allie’s in not one but two world wars and without them we may not have stayed a country. Also, the queen was bff’s with Ronald Reagan who was one of the most conservative presidents we have ever had. The monarchy has become a friend and a copycat of how we run things here in the US. They no longer hold a ton of power, that sits with their democratically chosen parliament members and prime ministers. I’m so sorry if I’m bursting your bubble by informing you that we haven’t been at war with the Brit’s for a couple hundred years, but unfortunately, it’s true.
What a difference it must have been for her speaking to Conrgress. Applause is not allowed in the chambers of the UK Parliament, and the Sovereign is not permitted in the House of Commons chamber. When the Sovereign does speak to Parliament, it's in the House of Peers, and no one makes a peep.

You will be sadly missed. You went out like a boss. Over 4 billion people watched your funeral and it was full of scripture and worship and it was beautiful to see.
The warnings she gave here are real now. We simply CANNOT take democracy for granted. Despite being a monarch, she understood the importance of a functional democracy. Her life was a masterclass in service to that. Good night, your Majesty.
If you believe that her life's work was in service to preserving DEMOCRACY then the word 'irony' can be retired now and forever. This woman's greatest accomplishment was convincing the world that a profoundly unnecessary institution, which exists only to enrich itself and empower itself in spite of its subjects, was necessary in preserving British political sovereignty. In reality, every major country that has cast off their monarchy has been just fine and often times much better without having to prop up rich do nothings who declare self importance because of the family they were born into. The Queens #1 job has been to make the monarchy look good so everyone will allow them to keep living lavishly with servants and subjects and world leaders worshipping the ground they walk on. What other function does the monarchy have except to go around the world to convince everyone that they are still important? Would we tolerate this behavior from a corporation? Would you tolerate a neighbor who took a bit of your money and everyone else's in the neighborhood and lived in the nicest house and didn't work a job and made you and everyone else call them the leader? Why are we ok with it happening on a much larger scale?
She has defined 20th century in every meaning. She is a reference for many things in popular culture. Her death ended an era. The world is a different place now. I always respected her character. She was a real royalty.

I queued for 13 hours today to see the Queen lying in state and pay my respects. I'll never forget this day,in the queue I made good friends with the people in front and behind me, as did most people. No words can describe the feeling of entering Westminster and I never could have predicted it. The jovial and fun atmosphere of the queue changed so drastically. 90 years of service, 70 of which as monarch. She's truly the definition of remarkable. I'll tell my children and grandchildren about today.

When historical Legends like The Queen pass, their speeches become immeasurably more powerful. The Queen proved the might of soft power and diplomacy. Her mere presence and visits to countries brought about peace. May she be rejoicing in Paradise with our Heavenly Father.
The day she turned 21, she gave a speech to the people of the United Kingdom saying that no matter how short or long her life would be, she would serve her country or her family. The day her father died, she became Queen of the United Kingdom. Until the last time, she was 95 years old, opening a parliamentary session and her final mission was appointing the Prime Minister at Balmerol Castle. She deserves to be honored, praised, and respected by everyone around the world.
Served how? Wore a fancy hat and got driven about in luxury? Absolutely pathetic humanity is embarrassing for this, especially to somebody calling herself "queen" as if she's superior
HMTQ always found speaking in public an ordeal, but it was those little flashes of her personality, in this instance her wicked sense of humor, and adding a splash of color into the formula to give us, that glimpse into what she is like when she's not Queening. I have looked up to her and regard her as the rod by which the best of mankind is measured. After my own Mom passed in February 2022, I wrote to the Queen and was in disbelief when I received her response on Windsor Castle letterhead hand dated the 21st of April 2022, her 96th and ultimately final birthday. I think for this reason and my profound admiration for HM that I will always feel deeply connected to her.
