Keep Yourself Alive is the first track of their debut album released in 1973. Their first live performance was on June 27, 1970 in England at Truro City Hall, while still billed as the group Smile. Roger's mother got them the gig.

Angela you nailed it I knew both years, but I didn't know that detail about exact 1st smile performance, but I didn't know date of1st. Gig and on the top of that, that it was thanks to Rodgers mum. I learn something new about queen every day from comments. Thank you Btw have you been to some of them concert? I admire them for what they have achieved and how they music influenced millions maybe billions of people there's so many reasons why I love queen for me they are and always will be the best and many times honestly I cried just listening Freddie songs when he got sick and many people don't know that he was puffy from treatment and got wicker so no concerts. when they did video clip for break thru on moving train make me always laugh. So many things about I love about Freddie. R.I.P Freddie we love you and we are missing you ❤❤🙏🙏 I wish I had a time machine

Brian and Roger never came on stage drunk but Deacy had a cocktail bar set up behind Freddie’s piano with wine, beer, soft drinks, tequila, nuts and M&Ms and would be quite tipsy by the end of the concert. Freddie didn’t come on stage drunk....often....there was one notable exception. Freddie and Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet caught up before a concert in New Zealand and polished off an entire bottle of Stolichnaya vodka together and when that was finished they started on the port. Freddie insisted Tony come on stage during the concert and they tried to sing Jailhouse Rock, but couldn’t remember the words so they made them up. Freddie said “Hadley you bastard, I’m pissed!” Brian said when Freddie was in that state the band had to be on their toes, because he’d sing songs out of order from the set list, forget the lyrics and they had no idea what he was going to do next. I think that’s a hilarious story

Freddie did do a few worse for ware a couple of times but considering how many performances they did we can ignore that! He still played the piano perfectly and roger said even if hed had a drink with someone he'd get his act together quickly Roger admitted to being drunk on the official video for who wants to live forever John had too much on stage some times These are a handful of times over 20 odd years nothing really

They all had a "little drink" now and then. Deaky had a small bar set up out of sight. When you see him disappear for a few seconds, he's having some refreshments. lol Brian and Roger said, "By the time the concert was about over, he was well on his way to being drunk." lol Never missed a note though!

In the 70s John didn't have a bar on stage or a drinking problem. It started in the 80s.
@carolcjh8938
@carolcjh8938 3 года назад
@@janematthews3394 I didn't mention a date or time. My point, none of them were teetotalers and they enjoyed a drink now and then. They also could be real partyers, especially Roger and Freddie. I think you are right about Deaky's bar and drinking more in the '80s. According to Brian, they were all having relationship problems about that time.

This is a hot song from their very first album. The whole band kills this song every time. The first Queen gig: Truro City Hall, June 27, 1970. First record released: EMI Records released "Keep Yourself Alive" as a single in the United Kingdom on 6 July 1973, a week before Queen hit the stores.

Yes, and this first gig had them mistakenly billed as “Smile”, the former band of Brian, Roger, and Tim Staffell (who left the band). KEEP YOURSELF ALIVE was written by Brian on his Acoustic Guitar while Queen was busy with practices at Imperial College. In 1971 a Demo version was recorded at DeLane Studios with Brian playing Acoustic Guitar. (Not released). As for your other question what instruments they play: Freddie plays piano, harpsicord, and guitar. Brian plays guitar(electric and acoustic), piano, keyboard, ukulele, and harp (he played harp on the studio version of LOVE OF MY LIFE). He also plays “trumpet” sound with his mouth! (React to DREAMER’S BALL Live in Paris). John plays, bass guitar, guitar, piano, and the upright bass (as seen in Official Video Who Wants to Live Forever). Roger plays drums, guitar, bass guitar, keyboard, synthesizer, and ukulele (his first instrument). There may be more, but that’s all I know of. 😊

Kind of hard to say their very first performance. But I believe their first performance was probably either at Ealing University or the London School of Science & Technology as all 4 were still studying at University. That would have been late 1969 and early 1970.

Tim was still in Smile in 1970. The last Smile show was in May 1970. During 1969-1970 Freddie was in different bands himself. Also, John didn't join them until 1971 and Freddie graduated from University in 1969.

I went was blown away (we got the fast and regular "WWRY" versions), took some amazing pix (which got stolen years later). Bonus, the security there did security at my school & they got me backstage after the show...only long enough to say a quick hi to everyone & tell them ALL the songs I loved (I had every album)...my friends got me out before any after-show fun happened, lmao. I wish I had gone to more shows but did see Brian on his solo show after Freddie passed.

So in 1973 they released the single “Keep yourself alive”. It didn’t get much radio play at all. So Queen didn’t “breakthru” 😁 until 1974 with the song from Queen II, “Seven seas of rhye” And Queens first “formal gig” was June 27th 1970. They played at the Cornwall Red Cross Benefit, John deacon wasn’t even apart of Queen, the guy who played bass in 1970 was a guy named Mike Grose. Mike later left Queen due to them spending A lot of time in the studio than actually preforming live

Queens First Live Performance Was At A Little Pub With Them Still Using The Name *Smile* Which Consisted Of Brian May, Roger Taylor and Tim John Staffell, The Trio Preformed For A While Until Tim Told The Others He Was Going To Humpy Bong, Another Band. Freddie Was A Friend Of Tims and Got Introduced To The Band Earlier On and Was There Biggest Fan, Went To Every One Of There Shows. So When Tim Quit Freddie Stepped In And The Guys Gave Him a Shot, John Deacon Was The 5th Bassist. First It Was Tim When They Had The Name Smile, Then They Went Thru 3 Others Before Settling On Him. And They Had Some Good Years. But Nobody Could Ever Replace Freddie🙏

You have to be more specific with your questions! Do you mean Queen, before John Deacon? Because they had several bass players before John, yet while named Queen. So as the 4 members of Queen? It was at one of their Universities. Their 1st song released, here or in the UK. Freddie perfoming under another name? I mean, there are several answers! But great questions!
