Queen latifah is a one woman show she can sing rap and act and has acted in theatre movies and tv Can see why she has got a hollywood walk of a fame shes a talented woman
I was thinking the same. World is actually mass Masses have an IQ of average or less than average IQ people. What Latifah is capable of is beyond their capacity to judge where she belongs. It's completely fine because I am sure she know who she is and looks like an extremely sought person. A recognition from the world won't change the fact that she is awesome. Many people in our daily life are also brilliant but not everyone is brilliant because they want recognition from the world. There have been historical legends who didn't get recognition while they were alive. It didn't stop them one bit Frome being the best in what they do. Some people in humans will always be awesome. Always inspire , always teach, always leave a mark. I love her. And I give my recognition to her. "The Queen"
Amen! Hairspray brings back memories for me of my early teens. I was 14 when the movie remake was released I saw it on Christmas Eve 2007 and saw the stage version for the first time a month later.
em. Probably this, run and tell that, and big blonde and beautiful are the most important songs from musicals (if you don't know, run and tell that is about pride and big blonde and beautiful is about self love)
Nearly a decade after she first sang this in Hairspray, Ms. Latifah still has got the vocal chops that Maybelle demands! This powerful song deeply expresses not only the long fight African Americans had for equality but as well as the social issues that we continue to face in American society 5 decades after the Civil Rights Movement. Brava Ms. Latifah
Jbreezcapricorn Live I say amen! She gave us the same thrill that moviegoers were given when she sang And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going in Dreamgirls ten years ago. I didn't even have a big problem with the fact that Jennifer was padded to make Maybelle look as big as the character is supposed to be.
@@thekingofshade_1 have you heard Lauren Platt's version she was a UK x factor contestant and she sang this for both her audition and her first sing off she may not have gone through the struggles due to her being 16 but she vocally hit notes you wouldn't expect from her it's not like Queen Latifah but it's different you should listen to it btw Queen Latifah was named Correctly
Always thought that the racial equality protest scene in 'Hairspray' with this song was so powerful, and at the time I was naive in thinking racism to that extent no longer occurred in this day and age. I was wrong. #justiceforgeorgefloyd
A lot of us thought that this kind of racism was finally becoming a thing of the past. We were all proven wrong, and it didn't take much for it to come roaring back. I'm still in this fight, after 50 years of advocacy and seeking equality. I feel like all those years of progress were wiped away. I will never understand the fear and hatred some people have for those who are not exactly like them. We still have a lot of work to do. Our diversity is our strength. Love is our power.
Queen Latifah, she knows her singing range. She knows she is not an Aretha, Whitney, etc. Vocals sound good, I am happy she knows exactly what she can do musically.
She definitely knows her range and skill. A wonderful musician. Oddly enough, Alex Newell seems not to have limits to his range and skill. That is one beyond belief performance of this song
I am literally coming back to this after what happened to George Floyd, may he rest in peace, this song shows the power of the black people and the journey they've been through to make a place for themselves in this corrupt world. I just hope that George get justice for the "animalistic" way he left out the world with. #BlackLivesMatter.
I truly believe she gave the best rendition of this song. Darlene love brought power, Jennifer Lewis brought the blues, Jennifer brought the soul. But I believe The Queen brought it all together, I can never not cry when listening to her singing this song. Just absolutely exceeds the musical it came from.
I was about to say exactly that. The Glee version, with a 200 voice choir of trans men and women, is simply stupendous. Alex uses no vocal tricks, just incredible voice and breath control to put magic in the air. That final A5 is simply out of this world.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that this song can go with a lot of scenarios such as the lgbt struggle or any fight in general. I believe this song needs to be played to all those who don't think that black lives matter. This should be sung at every rally in support of the African American struggle.
she could always sing. I remember seeing her in an awards show sing a song with Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion and she blew them both out of the water.
Like kodell4 said, she could always sing. Just cuz she was a rapper doesn't mean she wasn't a singer before that. She grew up around jazz and also was a jazz singer. But before she was a rapper, she sang in church.
I absolutely love Queen Latifah. She is the epitome of style, grace, and a positive attitude. She looks amazing and her singing still took my breath away. She's just so awesome
Doesn’t she age? Gorgeous as one can be, glowing ❤. Oh yeah, her voice… so powerful as her interpretation is. The actress and the singer blend beautifully. ❤❤
Not sure what it is about this lady's voice or this song but it gives me goosebumps and real emotion. Several years ago I was lucky enough to look after her and her friend in first class on a flight from London to the US. She was absolutely delightful, humble and full of thanks when I spoke about this song. She signed a first class menu for me with a lovely message, in our job as crew we were not supposed to ask but she said 'if any one says anything I offered'. Such a beautiful lady with such huge talent and no ego. Will never forget that day
Such a queen, both in voice, character, power and in name. She sounds incredible live! Let's appreciate how far we've come - a black woman would never have been allowed to sing at a world event like this 100 years ago. But let's also remember how much further we have to go. #blacklivesmatter
This lady really needs to be stepping up her performance game. The world still doesn't know of her singing gifts that are such a rarity ! It takes a real singer, not a studio mutt to be able to really sing LIVE .... and be able to charm the audience with her talent !
I've always said that her non-rap vocals deserves just as much credit and street cred as, her 'grunge' music. You go girl.....great rendition of this song. I had seen her do a smidge of opera (I think ???) on some show and her voice was absolutely beautiful....just gorgeous set of pipes.
She is superwoman, every time I hear her sing this I break down in tears, she is the perfect singer for this song. Her voice is powerful without being screechy or screaming, I just love her.
There's a light in the darkness Though the night black as my skin There's a light burning bright showing me the way But I know where I've been There's a cry in distance It's a voice that comes from deep within There's a cry asking why I pray the answer's up ahead yeah 'cause I know where I've been There's a road we've been travellin' Lost so many on the way But the riches will be plenty With the price, the price we had to pay There's a dream in the future There's a struggle that we have yet to win And there's pride in my heart 'cause I know where I'm going, yes I do And I know where I've been, yeah There's a road that we must travel There's a promise that we must make Oh the riches will be plenty Oh the dream in the future Oh the struggle we must win Use that pride in our heart To lift us up Lord knows i know Where I've been
Jolene8 she was exceptionally regal in her earlier hip hop days. Queen Latifah really brought something new and inspiring to the genre. And then she just kept doing more and more diverse work over the years. And so many people know her work even if they didn't listen to her rap music. Queen Latifah is awesome.
#ALL LIVES MATTER ! Stop discrimination and racism !!! WE ARE ALL HUMAN and ....... EQUAL !! Everyone should have the same opportunity and be treated fairly and respectfully regardless of race !!!!
When I heard her "Unity" album dedicated to her late brother, Police Officer Lance Owens, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. She was way ahead of the current "Times Out" Movement in this work which demanded respect in every caliber. Her portrayal of a lesbian, thug bank robber in "Set It Off" was epic. And we all, hopefully, remember her co-starring role in the hit series, "Living Single" as Khadija James, owner of "Flava Magazine." There is nothing this star 🌟 can not do. (I also liked her jazz album as well.)
She looks beautiful, and sounds beautiful! I think her performance as Motor Mouth Mabel is the best I've seen & heard. I would love to see Queenie do the Ella Fitzgerald story. Lord knows she has the chops to perform Ella's music. She would be fantastic! And, it's about time that Ella Fitzgerald's life be made into a movie! She deserves it!
Just Let PEOPLE Sing Together.....It doesn't matter who is singing background.. in today cold cruel world, it is beautiful, to see people sing a positive melody
Such a powerful song that takes a lot of vocal control, breathing technique and strong vocals. It is still effective to this day especially with racial issues being an all time high in this time of day and I was so impressed at the fact that even all these years later she still held up and sang this beautifully and it was live on top of that. This is a powerful song that everyone in America needs to listen to, we all need to just look at eachother as human beings and not the color of skin
I know RU-vid is sick of me right about now....I have replayed this performance by The Queen Latifah "I Know Where I've Been" over and over for the last four hours straight....Lady...You Better Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaang this song Jersey Girl! Love Love Lovin' This! First time hearing it.. Can't stop playing it...Bravo and Standing Ovation Queen Latifah..The Orchestra, The Pianist, The Saxophonist, The Choir, everything in this performance is perfect...
I will never forget watching Hairspray(movie) for the very first time. I hadn't seen the Broadway or listened to the songs at all and was soooo suprised at the whole premise and how race was a big factor. It is one of my all time favorites. When this song came on I'll never forget absolutely sobbing. Every single word was so heartfelt and you can feel how absolutely devastating that time was and still is to this day in different ways. Love how she changed the notes to fit her aging voice. So talented. Great performance.
I absolutely adore Queen Latifa, and when you see performances like this it is not hard to see why. If you ever want to see a 47 year old male well up stick this song on, as it gets me every single time I hear it. Pure Class.
We ALL need to remember, and keep moving forward. Just an old lady here folks. I will always love the Queen, SHE'S intelligent and gorgeous, the whole package, can't beat that! ✨😎🎶✨
wow what an artist. I cannot believe that queen latifah came presented at the noble awards singing a song that means so much to the equality of human beings. If she is singing in these awards, it is because she is a very well-rounded artist, because in the Nobel Prize, people are rewarded for their contributions to society on issues such as peace and science. these are not vulgar prizes like the grammy or the mtv "awards" that reward decadence and vices. if you have sung on the Nobel Prize it can be affirmed that you are a true artist committed to society.
Where's the super like button, this was absolutely phenomenal, done by one of the greatest singers, of our generation or any other, I could listen to this fine outstanding woman sing all day long!
I love you Queen Latifah you are my idol my favorite character in movie hairspray 0 and you are talented my favorite song from movie hairspray I know I been my name Haley Middleton big fan your music ❤💋
In all honesty, no! Her performance here is amazing, and she looks beautiful. But, her performance in Hairspray, she put her foot in that! She was the best Motor Mouth Maybelle I have ever seen. And, I've seen about a dozen different productions of Hairspray, both professional & amateur. Even better than Broadway.
I have this album on cd Wish I had bought two at the time, because I wore it out. It is time for her to produce another album 1-12-2024. 11:59 pm Illinois
This is one heavy Song with lots of soul meaning and very very powerful. She sang the hell out of that song. She should’ve gotten a standing ovation 👏🏽 ❤
I've been listening to this song on repeat this whole week...it just makes sense makes me cry but gives me hope too. #justiceforgeorgefloyd #blacklivesmatter
