What’s most impressive is this isn’t a Queen crowd, but it became one.

What gets me is when Freddie says "all right" and the crowd responds with "all right" and he smiles because he didn't expect that.

For 21 minutes in 85 England was ruled by a different Queen.

The best thing about his absolute control over that entire audience is that it wasn’t even his audience necessarily. They didn’t all go there to specifically see queen. But queen is what we all remember. That’s epic.

Not a Queen concert, not a Queen audience , so to have 72,000+ people singing, swaying and clapping in unison is remarkable and shows just how incredible and talented Queen were. Lucky enough to see them at Wembley a year later. Great reaction.

Yeah, I too was there....... Many years later watching the London Olympics closing when Queen performed and they played a tape of Freddie playing with the crowd, and the live crowd responded, my wife just quietly said " Oh my God, he can even do it when he's dead"

I was born in 1944. And when rock 'n' roll hit the scene in the mid-50's, I had no interest in it. It all seemed so childish, or perhaps it was self-centered pubescence. Whatever, I paid very little attention to rock through the 50's and 60's. The Eagles got to me in the 70's, along with some others. But by and large, music for me was the classics and show tunes. Then, in 1985, I was living in Germany teaching English as a Second Language. After a long Saturday morning, I came home eager to enjoy what was left of the weekend. Once I got home, I turned on the little black and white TV I had been lent in hopes of finding something I could understand enough to enjoy. What I came across was the Live Aids broadcast from Wembley Stadium I shrugged and watched. Almost immediately, Queen was on stage. For the next 20 minutes I was glued to my seat, absolutely dumbstruck by Freddie Mercury's performance. In the wake of this extraordinary experience, I learned to appreciate a good deal better just what rock had to offer. My horizons were most happily expanded. And I still think of the Wembley experience and Queen as an epiphany, my own little satori. It's a memory I treasure still and always will.

Never forget that day, i was 14 years old, Freddie Mercury had a strep throat and the doctor advised him to cancel his performance. He didn't and give the best live performance of all artists that day.

I was 24 living in Dallas Texas when I watched this concert live. Queen was the stuff of dreams and fairytale. God bless Freddie Mercury’s soul for bringing so much joy to our lives.

I remember this, the other bands came out and played a couple of tunes, almost half heartedly. You almost could see Bob Geldof twisting their arms behind their backs. Then Queen came on and treated it like a paying gig, gave their all and left the stage. The rest, as they say, is history......

No autotune or pitch correction back in them days, just let that sink in for a minute !

I was there in that crowd. Queen were the absolute highlight of the whole concert. Freddie lifted the atmosphere from low to ecstatic in 15 seconds, it was electric. I'll never forget it. I only bought the ticket to see Bowie, then I discovered it was a whole day. 🥳

My mom was at that event, she still talks about this day, like it was yesterday. I'll be forever grateful my mon showed me Queen.

In an interview Bob Geldorf once said "It was the perfect stage for Freddie." Interviewer: "Why?" Bob Geldorf "He had the whole world as his audience!"

OK I'm old, I saw Queen live 5 times. Live Aid, to this day it's the largest concert ever held. It was in aid to raise money for the Ethiopian Famine in the early 1980's. At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded be the horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who I had fought along side in a war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is one of the two worst memories I have. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.

72 000 people in the stadium, 1 billion people behind the TV screen. Queen's performance at live aid is seen as the greatest live performance of all time. No doubt that Queen is the greatest band ever and Freddie fuccing Mercury is the greatest vocalist and frontman of all time. Love them so much.

It's so cool that 35 years later, we're still watching this in awe.

Fun fact. The Sound Engineer at Live Aid in UK show was a dear friend of Freddie & Queen. He engineered the sound system fully to certain specifications. He also the sound board. Per Queen's request he had a switch taped off. When Queen took the stage he flipped the switch no one knew about except for him & Queen...to make Queen the loudest band at the event! True story!!

I showed my then 11 year old son this 2 years ago and it changed him forever! He became obsessed with queen, the 80’s, started playing guitar! Music is his absolute passion and wants to make his mark on the world! All from watching this! All these years later and they still have a profound effect on people!! 💙💙💙💙

People don't realize how great of a voice he had especially considering this performance he was on doctors orders not to do the show because of throat problems and he still could have outsung anyone then and now, there will never be another Freddy

I was 16 during Live Aid. The concert started at 8pm here in Australia, and I sat in front of the TV for about 15 hours waiting for Queen to come on and I was not disappointed. It's 30 years since Freddie died and not seeing Queen live in person is still my greatest regret in my concert viewing life.

A journalist once asked all the members what instruments they played John said I play bass guitar Roger said I play keyboard and drums Brian said I play lead guitar and you Freddie what instrument do you play to which he replied me darling I play the audience now that's fucking rock royalty

I cannot even believe how many times I have watched this performance and never get tired of it. Freddie Mercury rocks on and inspires generations he never met. Now THAT is a legacy.

I had the privilege to see Queen live in 1980 in London on their Flash Gordon tour, I was 12, front row seats, I was deaf for a week :-)

The hardest part of watching reactions to Queen performing live is having to constantly remind yourself to stop watching Freddie and watch the reaction!

I was there with a bunch of friends just in front of the sound engineer directly in front of the stage in the middle of the crowd. Was an amazing and very hot day!

I think one of the most amazing things about this, is that most people gathered, merrily singing Queen songs, were fans of other groups. This was Live Aid, charity, and a lot of people were secretly waiting to see how well Queen would do without a fan base, without flashing lights and theatrics. And they just went in there, ruled the stage and everyone turned into a fan.

72 thousand people all going to the concert to see the bands they love not particularly Queen ( Bowie for me ) and Freddie Mercury had the whole 72 thousand people eating out of his hand. I never looked at Queen the same way. Unbelievable front man, first time seeing him on stage and he got me right in the heart. A true entertainer. R I P Freddie. ❤️

It is incredibly rare when you can point to a single moment in time, and say "This was their greatest moment." It's even rarer when that moment was captured in its near perfection, and you can watch it again, 35 years later. This was the moment Queen gave the greatest live performance in rock history, and at that moment, there WERE no other rock bands. There was only Queen.

I watched this at the age of 9. I became a Queen fan that day.I would sell my soul for a time machine, just to go see Queen.

I get chills whenever I hear any live performance by Queen, hearing the crowd sing along to the songs is amazing and shows how much they're loved.

I don't think I'll see a showman control an audience like Freddie did. He was a ONCE in five generations man.

That Queen was probably the most educated rock band ever. Freddie Mercury - degree in Art & Graphic Design, Roger Taylor - Biology, John Deacon - Electronics & Brian May - Astrophysics (& recently completed his doctorate after a 30-year hiatus).

My mom was a huge queen fan while she was alive. So she introduced me to them when I was very young, I'm 32 now. Everytime i hear queen i think of her. So naturally I introduced queen to my own children very young as well. I always tell them your grandma would blast these songs while we were in the car. (There was no talking in my mom's car for this reason) I cant listen to their music without getting emotional. Most the time I get teary eyed cause the connection it gives me to my mom but also just the music its self just touches me. Like we are the champions always makes me cry idk why just the song its self. And we will rock you always gets my heart racing and I get into the song. That's magic that a band from the 70s and 80 can still be killing it with music they made then to new generations like myself and my children. There will never be another queen or another freddie mercury. I just barley watched bohemian rhapsody due to covid gotta lot of down time and I've been obsessing over them since I always knew their music but their story was amazing how we will rock you came to be. Completely genius btw and shows you what an amazing person Freddie was and at times lost person as well but just made me love them more.

When you get to the point in your musical career that you don't even have to sing the songs you made famous. And can let the audience sing it for you THAT is when you have become Legend

It's a wonderful thing that you've educated your son on this performance. I am a 55 year old life long Queen fan and everytime I see this it brings a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. Whenever anyone asks me who do I think are the great public speakers of our time I always say Freddie Mercury. Nobody I have ever seen has been able to communicate with 1000's of people the way he did. Thank you for bringing this to us.
