This is the second in a series of instructional videos in the 'Queen rearing made simple' series. Demonstrating how the average Beekeeper is able to produce Queens on a small scale .
This video shows the use of the Cell Punch method. This does require the beekeeper to have a cell punch kit. The Cell Punch kit used in this film was purchased via the BIBBA website. They are also available from the various Bee equipment suppliers.
The video covers both some information about commercial queen production & grafting and the actual practice of how to use and take a cell punch to produce a Queen cell.
The film is divided into 4 parts.
The 1st part - what is grafting
The 2nd part - how to punch a cell into a comb as an alternative method
The 3rd part - filmed in the apiary 10 days earlier - the setting up the Cell builder colony
The 4th & final part. - 10 days later, back in the same apiary - showing how the Cell punches have taken and produced Queen cells
The two instructors are Chris Dale and Roger Poole from the Halifax Beekeepers Association (HBKA), other members of the Association are in attendance.
The video was shot in West Yorkshire in May 2024.
It is a joint HBKA and Northern Bee Books production. Filmed and edited by Richard Searle
