I think some of Albert's neroctic behavior comes from the fact he was constantly worried his wife would go mad. You have to remember mental illness was in their family. Victoria was prone to depression and angry outbursts. She could very well have been suffering from a mood disorder. Albert was controlling, absolutely, but he did think he was helping his wife. It does make sense she mourned Albert, but she was human, she probably loved again, just not in the same way

I love that Victoria left so many words of her very own behind, it’s a shame her daughter Beatrice destroyed some of them but wouldn’t we all do that to protect our loved ones.... I’m happy that Victoria’s image has remained exactly the same even after all these years, nothing has come out of the woodwork to cause people to talk or speculate more than they already do.🦋

Another documentary interviewed the descendant of her Doctor who placed the keepsakes in her coffin and who also kept a diaries. He described their open physical closeness and deep affection but they concluded if they had crossed the line to become lovers her behavior would have been more discreet. She also had a prolapsed uterus which would have made intercourse quite painful. As with her later servant from India, the lack of a physical relationship with Brown permitted their close relationship and friendship.
@zzzbbbooo

People in the Victorian era could have very close relationships with members of the opposite sex without actually being intimate with them. Attitudes were very different then.
@michealtaylor7745
@michealtaylor7745 3 года назад
@@patm4899 She had nothing wrong with her uterus after Alberts death in her mid 40s, she said "I am young still & my blood is hot"., obvioulsy she was missing the physical side of Albert. They had a very passionate relationship, nine children proves it along with her own writings about Alberts closeness, esp after her wedding night where she "didn't sleep much". Only later in her 70s after John Brown was dead & Abdul was on the scene at 24 did she have a problem with her uterus collapsing. Therefore after having more of John Browns personal things placed in her coffin than anyone else ie a framed pic of him in her left hand with the wedding ring he'd given her on the 3rd finger of the same hand, a lock of his hair & his pocket watch with some personal letters. If Victoria was so obvious in the open how much more would there be in private? He had an adjoining room to Victorias bedroom. I could go on, but suffice to say Victoria treated John Brown more like Albert by Victoria than anyone else in her life.
@jeanatwood1421

Personally I think that Victoria and Albert loved each other and Albert's biggest desire was to have a role, work, that he could do. As for Victoria, he lengthy mourning was something she enjoyed. She ended up using that mourning as a weapon to get her way. She always seemed to find another man to be with her whether it was John Brown or Abdul.

Actually if it wasn't for her daughter Alice bringing Alberts ghillie Brown down from Scotland the Queen would have lost herself in the grief of Albert. Brown brought her out of herself & got her riding her horse again, he fell in love with the Queen as she did with John, if not for him who knows what would have happened to the monarchy? We owe him a big dept, he filled her empty heart with love again, after he died Victoria wrote "He was the best truest heart that ever beat!" She also wrote that "twice now I feel the depth of dear love", twice? One Albert & 2nd was John Brown. She had a life size statue of John placed between herself & Albert at Balmoral, Scotland, several life size statues were built of John Brown after his death, why? She didn't have anyother statues made in the plural of anyone else save Albert, she felt "that Hohn was heaven sent, by Albert maybe" to comfort her in all ways that a husband would, is that why Brown gave Victoria a wedding ring? Wether it be from his mother or bought he still gave Victoria a plane gold wedding ring as had Albert, she even had it kept on the 3rd finger of her left hand, along with a framed pic of Brown in her left hand also, she had several personal letters of Brown & a lock of his hair, more of John Brown ended up in her coffin than Albert! What's for sure is that Queen Victoria was in love with John & no doupt went as far as she had Albert. As for Abdul? She was v old by then & he was only 24, if anything she saw him as not just her munchi but a son type friend too. But as far as being in love both heart & physically is when "ones blood is hot & feelings strong", she had missed Albert sexually & felt that desire, John gave her his whole being, he worked himself to his death for Victoria, never a brake. 24/7 52 weeks every year, no wonder he died so suddenly. He never had a brake, even though he was with Victoria drinking wine & whiskey, playing, dancing together, he still was waiting early in the morning with the Queens horse. He should be remembered, without him we wouldn't have the Victoria we know & love! 👑

@@michealtaylor7745 All very true, except I'm mystified as to why you feel "lucky". Victoria and her extended family were/are aliens ruling the old stock peoples of the British Isles. They saw/see those peoples as being no better than those of the new portions of THEIR empire - in other words, mere possessions. The extended family my mother refers to as "The Crowned Hoodlums of Europe", saw the peoples they ruled, as mere exploitable assets. The Romanovs were the most glaring example. But Victoria, and the current Elizabeth, have wholeheartedly embraced the exploitation (and eventual destruction) of the peoples of the British Isles (a process which is ongoing, and will not end well).
@michealtaylor7745
@michealtaylor7745 4 года назад
No one enjoys mourning the death of their loved one, Victoria couldn't cope without her beloved Albert, she became Queen at only 18 & her 1st love was Albert, btw they're human not aliens, Victoria & Albert is the greatest love story in history. Ppl can say what they want but its not because of what they know but because "mother said it", well it must be true then, after all 'she said so, lol, I know about the British monarchy, I've spent my life studying it, some folk are just plain jealous because they'l never be a princess/prince, King or Queen. Victoria was the mother of Europe, Albert died when she was still young & it was her daughter Alice who had John brought down from Scotland to help get her out. So he was a great sevant & good friend, so what if they felt more, don't be bitter about a woman who suffered so much, it makes you come across nasty, you never knew her she never hurt you but you reckon your better? Not a chance. Victoria was a great monarch who showed she was as any woman when it comes down to loss of a loved one. I love our monarchy, far better than Trump, lol

Interestingly, P Albert gave up most everything to please QV. just as Prince Philip gave up his brilliant Navy career to be the Consort of Queen Elizabeth II..... In the beginning of his marriage he was very resentful. History repeats itself in some ways, as P. Harry married an American divorcée and left England just like King Edward did..... Very interesting. Time will tell how things will go.

Wonderful piece! Like so many people I have always associated Queen Victoria with stuffiness and prudery. And now I see a kindred spirit who loved life, resolutely defended her friends and reinvented herself after each of life's inevitable losses. I suspect in other times and circumstances, we could have been great friends. I'll never see that iconic photo of this great woman without feeling a frisson of delight ... And admiration.

To think of her as a great inspirational woman is a tempting, rose-tinted history, but not an accurate picture. She was strong, but domineering, *deeply* selfish, and made her children's lives miserable. Apart from Albert she only seemed to appreciate people (like her mother and three children) after they died, and after being icy to them in life would be melodramatically sentimental in mourning. But don't take my word for it - watch the three-part series 'Queen Victoria's Children', it's fascinating (and heartbreaking). This narrator is in that too as a guest. (If the 2nd and 3rd eps are missing from RU-vid (or unwatchable here) they're also on the 'DailyMotion' website.)

What a lovely programme to watch, it really tickled me too loud laughter, as excerpts of her writings were read, along with visualizing the battle between all these people. I have a feeling the Queen new very well what was going on around her with the Court, John Brown, the Munshi and Lord Beaconsfield; I believe people today in 2020 know exactly what the Queen was doing, with all these fractions from around the World, scurrying here and there into the corners of all these Palaces, talking about the other set here and there in corners. So sweet, I would just like to have put my arms around her and love her. The Queen knew exactly, what was going to happen to all these Countries, Courts, Royalties around us. In over a hundred years later it is so very clear and her Majesty was right. I am still laughing about the Queens thought of what racialism really was. Such a dear lady now lost in time apart from her books.

yeah what does he mean 'Albert used his wife's pregnancies to snatch power from her', i think people can't fathom men of that time especially a royal couple infamous for infidelities could genuinely care and respect each other. For poor Victoria her reputation is so bad as a mother and generally as a person seen as shrill vain overbearing people doubt if any man could ever love her let alone humble intelligent Albert, so it must be that he only needed for her power. I think people just can't accept that a man can love a woman despite her flaws even if she is a queen.

Even in England, people are saying things like, "...at 42 years old."?!!!! I'm sorry, but that is absolutely, brutally, HORRIBLE. I'd assumed that this syntactic error was an American phenomenon - taught by immigrants to other immigrants. Is Great Lakes Immigrant English now being exported to England?

Great inside into a very complex lady. I think she needed Albert as she wasn't a motherly person so he controlled her but she sought friendship in men who adored her and loved her warts and all and got her humour. I think she did love and was loved by John Brown and were lovers. I think her daughter Beatrice who was her companion knew about her mothers infidelities and destroyed a lot.
@janekerigan235
@janekerigan235 7 лет назад
Letitia Kearney I do not believe based on Victoria's personality and obsessive love for Albert that she would have other lovers. She adored albert too much .. was too devoured..she worn black for the rest of her life because of him. . it is also possible that there were no evidence because it is not true. It is sad that his influence over Victoria which benefited the country that history still tries to mistreat him by turning him into a controlling person ...he was morally upright and has a head like a king and did as much as he could using skills he learned ....Brown was a good friend and .....a servant. Victoria at that age was old and brown helped her to physically do things and move. He was loyal to her so she appreciated it. Victoria loved Albert till the end that is why she had that mausoleum built. So she can be buried with him

janekerigan235 i think a woman can love more than one man in different way. do you? i think she loved n was devoted to albert as father of her royal children. but the fact the she placed john browns photo on her heart in her grave tells me she loved him with all her heart. as far as ''sexual relations'' after 9 kids with prolapsed uterus, that made it impossible but still deeply intimate love
@dreamslove1184
@dreamslove1184 6 лет назад
Letitia Kearney infedility?. Her frienfship with Brown begins after Albert's death, not an infedelity at all. Also she loved Albert, not only for control, she din't need him for the children, she prefered him above them.
@dreamslove1184
@dreamslove1184 6 лет назад
Rascal love between victoria and Albert was more than him being the father of her children, what she did when he died is not something that you only does for the father of your children. Also, she loved him above them. She had brown photography in her coffin but also a lot of things from Albert.Victoria was not very maternal, she loved being with Albert but doesn't like the result:being pregnant.

Victoria for all her British titles was a very typical Noble Frau. She was filled with eccentricities and seeming contradictions that only ever really made sense to her and those closest to her. John Brown's total devotion with no alternate motives must have been so liberating and refreshing for her. in many ways she had No understanding of how to seasonably conduct her affairs. Brown's unquestioning devotion to his queen won her trust, something she'd never really been in a position to freely give or with hold before. his common sense and understanding of the outside world and his ability to lovingly show her the boundaries of reality and what is actually proper and dignified to do, which flying into a rage certainly wasn't. The documentary seems to suggest that brown was never married or had already been widowed himself and any children he'd had were grown and gone or other wise cared for. Victoria would have seen him giving her his mother's wedding ring as a symbolic pledge that he would have no other devotion in his life but her. In effect Voluntarily declaring that he would never marry (again, if he'd had a family before) nothing to distract him from serving his queen. If Lancalot had been a true knight and kept his wang to himself, that would be a parallel to Brown. or something like a Chinese Court Eunice, entrusted with the most important matters based on their skill. The way modern people misunderstand this as a physical relationship is utterly preposterous. The German mind is an intimately symbolic thing but what a symbol means to one person doesn't need to have anything to do with how others would perceive the same object. this kind of misunderstanding is part of what is so wrong with the modern world. people seem to think Every single thing is about sex. English is a very deprived language in many ways we only have one word for deep emotional caring and concern, love. the Greeks have many words to differentiate the kinds of love with firm distinctions between each; love, from lust, love from parent to child and child to parent have different words. they even have a word for love between people of the same age group that is like brother and sister and has no sexual cogitations at all. there is even a different word for the love of a teacher for a student and this word is the same for the love of student for teacher, which again has no sexual innuendo at all. the fact that modern people assume everything must be about sex is completely stupid, humans would not have survived this long if friend group loyalties and extended family nurturing did not occur. the modern world has forgotten the kind of intense attachment that comes from True Loyalty. Brown's devotion is an extreme case of giving up everything to help the person who needs you most. By serving the Queen like this Brown was helping his nation. any thought that this noble quality is somehow hiding an ego driven motive for base physical gratification is disgusting. him being drunk all the time and his few off hours spent carousing are merly signs of him letting off the steam this intincely devoted relationship caused him. if he had to bang every hore in London twice to keep his head on straight to be the closest confidant and helper to his monarch. So be it.

angel whispers i think a woman can love more than one man in different way. do you? i think she loved n was devoted to albert as father of her royal children. but the fact the she placed john browns photo on her heart in her grave tells me she loved him with all her heart. as far as ''sexual relations'' after 9 kids with prolapsed uterus, that made it impossible but still deeply intimate love i loved this film bcuz its content is taken directly from what she actually wrote. a primary sourse of context of what influenced her world, n the colonys. i have much more understanding n respect for her now as most history is not ''herstory'' seen from an womans perspective. reason why the statue at end of this film looks so stern, not relecting her eccentic humour n behavior cuz....it was created by her daughter who was a sculptress n fine artist. showing her ''machavelian self...better to be feared than loved attitude. situated near BOUDICCA the warrior queen its so sad n terrifying that her family n kids responsible for so much grief n tragedy on this globe, her grandchildren caused millions of deaths globally. insane kaiser wilhelm started WW 1, the czar n czarina with their hemophiliac son and king george V with his cruelty to his sons...king eddie n wallace simpson n poor stuttering king down to the current queen with DIANA drama n the illigitimate prince harry....WHAT A SOAP OPERA of monumental copnsequences......but really cant blame it all on her n the ''monarchy'' as it was not really in control.... the parliament used her as a pawn for war n profit.
