How can he sound that good, with no autotune, etc.? Because Queen are from back in the days when, to be successful, performers had to actually be able to perform.
@margaretsmith756
@margaretsmith756 4 года назад
Thankfully, auto-tuned performers are falling out of favor and a new era of the singer seems to be arising, and I can't help but think it is partially due to young reactors like this young man discovering icons like Freddy (and incredible new young vocalists like those in Pentatonix, etc). The young ones are raising their expectations. Hallelujah! Music just may be saved. Wrench it from the hands of the suits and back into the hands of the artists, educate the young masses, and voila! New Era! :) 'Bout time.

From back when performers could sing, write their own songs and music AND be able to play instruments. How many 'performers' of today can do any of those, let alone ALL of them?
@kevanbodsworth9868
@kevanbodsworth9868 4 года назад
Auto tune a sad addition to highly commercialised music, They can look for an image a look to sell, , " can he/she really sing ...? No not that well " .. " no worry turn up the auto-tune he /she looks great " " To be fair there is another factor that is studio time, To save many many takes it might be used,, Also many of the product bands today do not get the touring time before being well known , The 60 70s bands and some later did a hell of a lot of time on stage before even recording, That was a good filter and only the cream got through, well mostly those that survived the years that is,,

No one can deny his talent. You are right he wasn’t well thought of in the gay clubs of London. I was stationed there from 79-82. I was there for the opening of Heaven which is still the biggest gay bar in Europe. He came to many of the bars I came out in. The Embassy Club was another one. Most stars liked their privacy but Freddie wanted to be worshipped. The regular crowd kind of avoided him. People would give a warning....look out Ms. Mercury is here. It was a fun time. Grace Jones was a hoot. Bowie didn’t want to be recognized.

My kids were exposed to everything from Opera, to old time Blue Grass,& Everything in between,& they got into that rap & new "artists" crap for a while, but to their credit, ultimately prefer actual musicians and singers! Cracked me up,& was sooo endearing to me, when they'd get pissed about the talentless wannabes "recreating" hits of others! It breaks my heart that so many kids these days, Only know rap, or the Other Crap, with push button "instruments",& gimmicks Galore to distract from their lip sinking😡And the Boy"BANDS" that can't One of them play an instrument-ugh.😖Queen may not of had"heart throb good looks", but their talent Made them Heart throbs those Boy Bands can't touch! diane shelton ....actually they recorded this in 1986, Freddie was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987, so even if he suspected something was wrong, I don’t believe he knew he was going to die four years later.
@dianeshelton9592
@dianeshelton9592 4 года назад
MoonSpinners in the 80s every promiscuous gay man knew they had a death sentence hanging over them. Suddenly all their past carefree behaviour from the last 10 to 15 years was catching up with them and it was really scary. Properly scary a lot of friends they knew were dying and there was no cure whatsoever. With the best will in the world you can’t deny Freddie was promiscuous , had partied hard and no doubt knew quite a few who had already died. If Freddie wasn’t official diagnosed with aids till 1987 I suspect by 1986 he absolutely knew something was wrong. A that point it was a guaranteed death sentence so I think I am right.
@MoonSpinners
@MoonSpinners 4 года назад
diane shelton ...you’re right, the 80’s was a scary time with the AIDS epidemic. In my comment to you though, I never mentioned whether Freddie was promiscuous or not, simply that when he sung this song, he didn’t know he was dying. Yes, there was a lot of fear, but also a lot of denial, that’s why it continued to spread so rapidly even though people could see what was happening. It wasn’t, and isn’t a disease limited to the gay community either. Intravenous drug users, blood transfusion recipients and prostitutes were all equally susceptible to this horrible virus. Even if he felt that something wasn’t right, he probably wouldn’t/couldn’t allow himself to believe it could happen to him, which reminds me of Rock Hudson, he carried on his sexual activity even though he knew he was ill. It’s all about denial. So I think I’m right as well. But I’m sure we can both agree on something....Freddie was a great entertainer, electrifying, hypnotic and thrilling.
@dianeshelton9592
@dianeshelton9592 4 года назад
MoonSpinners yes absolutely, I only mentioned Freddie being promiscuous because it was hammered home with adverts all over the tele about being careful. I adore Freddie , couldn’t care 2 hoots about his sex life other than sadly it took him away too soon. Yes absolutely you didn’t have to be gay , nor promiscuous nor even an adult for poor haemophiliacs to get HIV then, hopefully not so much now and thankfully it’s not a death sentence for the majority of Westerners. It would be nice if that statistic was world wide.
@MoonSpinners

Perfect! Oh, and if you want more diverse music, I'm for it. Just don't forget Queen was the MOST diverse band of the 70s and 80s. There are literally another 50 to 100 songs they have that will blow your mind! Queen Live is always better, in my opinion, but they had a lot of great songs they didn't perform live very often. I highly suggest Spread Your Wings video, they filmed it in the snow in Rogers's back yard. Freddie was so cold, he had taped roadie gloves on, and drank a bottle of brandy. The filmed both We Will Rock You, and Spread Your Wings on the same day. You should do them back to back!! You will love it, and so will we!! Thanks for another great reaction!

And to think our darling Freddie would be gone, forever, in 5 years after this concert. I still get upset thinking about when he left us. He was a beautiful soul. I love watching these videos. First Queen Reaction vid, and JV did not even know who our Freddie is, and now, you can see over the space of a few weeks, he is hooked, and in love with our dearest too.

I count myself as being so lucky to have been a fan of Queen my whole live and to have not only lived near to our lovely Mr. Balsaro, but to have gone to the same college as he did. Through the ups and downs of Queens career I’ve been through it with them. Wembley was extraordinary to say the least. The day Freddie died I cried all day at work and even now the sound of his voice gives me goose flesh all over. Last year I saw 1/2 of Queen, Roger Taylor and Bryan May with a very flamboyant Adam Lambert singing a lot of the old stuff that we older fans love. The show was amazing, Adam Lambert was very humble and actually said he wasn’t there to take Freddie’s place but rather an homage to him, that won the huge crowd over and a brilliant night was had by all. There will probably never be a more talented vocalist than Freddie Mercury in my view and I miss him still, but we have his recordings. My husband is a truly super fan of Fred in particular and has every scrap of anything that was ever recorded whether it is in digital form or on vinyl, Queen is played virtually every day in our house. Long live Queen.

I believe this was Freddie's last concert for world AIDS day, he went straight for hour or more. I was only 10 but because I grew up in Europe my sister played them, so to see the contract as it was on live was very emotional. He died shortly after we still mourn in 2020. A legend!!!!

Amazing voice and lyrics! It even sounds as if he has a slight cold. Still his voice is second to none. Today the lyrics really stand out, given Freddies tragic passing at such an early age.

Just seen your reaction to the master that was Freddie Mercury. Excellent to see another generation experiencing genius. I have been to many concerts in my 51 years, but Queen at Wembley on Sat 12th July 1986 rates head and shoulders above any other live performance I have ever seen. Still sends shivers down my spine listening back to it today, remembering the crowd participation throughout the show. I was near the back of the stadium, but still felt part of the whole experience. Can't think of any band today that could even begin to create that atmosphere.

When I played this on the piano at I played it at a Scottish wedding 2 years ago, the [Scottish] groom gave me a 'thumbs up' as he walked his new wife out of the church to take photos outside. He requested it as part of the recessional medley. His family did not know about it & they were all sobbing when they recognised the song. It certainly evokes very strong emotions.

The instruments, singing, the crowd, I love seeing rock band's live. Chris Stapleton is a great performer with an amazing voice, he reminds me of all of the old time band's I listened to growing up with my Dad.

Thank you for your thoughtful commentary. Saw QUEEN at MSG mid 80's and was an amazing concert. Freddie Mercury was truly one of a kind. If anyone ever wanted to get a sense of the mans true bravery just ck out some of the last videos he did when he knew he was dying, the disease literally ravaging his body, frail and knowing his days were numbered he still performed like a CHAMPION. The ultimate performer, never complained , no self pity. He was sticks and bones at the end and he still performed his heart out. pls ck out the making of I'M GOING SLIGHTLY MAD video.
