In the movie "Highlander" he falls in love and they live her whole lifetime together. She ages and he does not. Yet he stays and loves her til the end. This song plays through this storyline, with him burying her in the Highlands. It's so emotional it is hard to watch. It's a great song and Freddie's voice expresses the pain.

When you said "Boy he could sing" at the beginning, it was Brian May singing. Freddie comes it at 4:21

Vin & Sori, when you watched the 'Somebody to Love' Montreal live performance by Queen, one of the things you were impressed by was that not only Freddie could sing, but all the rest of the band could sing too. So, here we are .... There is a man called Brian May, he plays an electric guitar which both he and his dad literally made together, he modifies his own amps by playing with the electric circuits, he has a genuine Physics degree that he studied for and was later awarded a PhD in Astrophysics for his years of research ... oh and by the way was one of the best guitarists ever probably only held back by his humility who actually classically trained as a pianist first, oh and like you guys noticed a great vocalist and songwriter too. They don't make them like they used too .... :)

Vin, the intro to the Highlander TV show is a full song. It’s called Princes of the Universe, and it’s on the same Queen album as Who Wants to Live Forever. And yes, it is as awesome as you remember.

The song is sung by Brian May until 4.20 (i.e. on your video) when Freddie takes over. The two share the vocals from then on.

The first movie is sooo much stronger than every spin off of Highlander. In that he finds the "same" love over again. This song is great live too, live at Wembley 1986.

I never heard of this Brian May fella OMG Vin, hes the Queen guitarist, no one sounds like Brian on guitar. You have to go and check out the best version of this ever is when they played it live in Budapest Hungary in 86 one of their last ever gigs, it beats the studio version hands down.

The intro song to Highlander is a whole song by Queen called “ Princes Of The Universe “ off the “ It’s A Kind Of Magic” album ( which is also the soundtrack to the Highlander movie.)

That reincarnation story line Sori talked about is the plot to the original mummy from 1933 a great movie, his tomb is opened about 1000 or so years later and he sees the reincarnation of his love and becomes obsessed with her and says we could be together for ever. One of Boris Karloffs best movies

Just looking back at these reactions and it seems you havent done the most famous live performance of all time which was also Queen at Live Aid 1985. You guys seems to like a back story so if you dont know about it read up on live aid and then you must watch Queens performance which is a medley of their biggest hits, bohemian rhapsody, we will rock you and we are the champions. The audience interaction is breathtaking.

I think "love dies" was a way to mask the connection to the film. It's sort of a rule of soundtrack songs to not state something about the film directly in the song. An example would be the van Halen song "humans being" from the movie "Twister". Originally Sammy was going to write the lyrics and was told not to mention storm chasing but his lyrics were about white knuckles and into the storm or whatever. Eddie then wrote the song that made the soundtrack that doesn't mention driving or weather at all. Nor only does it not poke the fourth wall, but the sing remains timeless as far as lyrical concept goes.

I've just realised that I remember hearing this song for the very first time back in 86'. I was 5 years old and madly in love with rock music because of Queen. Still remember vividly where I was, what I felt and what was going on around me. Now how's that for an impact, influence and music inspiration... This song was written for the first Highlander movie by Brian May. It was specifically written for the scene where you watch his first and only wife age while he stays young. He stays with her till she dies of old age.

The real gut wrencher for Queen has to be "These are the Days of Our Lives", knowing where Freddie was up to then, the mood of the song, the retrospective nature of the lyrics - heavy stuff (in an emotional sense not as in - metal). I have met Brian May a couple of times for non-musical reasons (astronomy & my graduation), he's surprisingly regular and down-to-earth.

Don't Lose Your Head, this is the theme of the movie. The Immortals need to kill each other until there is only one left. The only way they can die is by having their head cut off. Any other injuries, regardless of how severe, heal spontaneously and the immortal continues to live and go on hunting the others through the centuries.

One Year Of Love is my favourite from the Magic album. Freddie always sings ballads beautifully of course.
