It took quite a bit of effort to actually get to my target of RAF Alconbury as it looked at one point we werent going to make it but was a lot of fun! However at the same time its concerning just how many old RAF bases are being lost to redevelopment. There was once in this 10 mile radius are 4 ex RAF bases, Upwood, Warboys, Wyton and here Alconbury. Alconbury is far advanced in its development as you can see in the video, Wyton is still used by the government but not for flying or aircraft. Instead Wyton seems to be a car storage area the exact same is happening at Thurleigh. Warboys if you flew over it you wouldn't know it was there. Cambridgeshire actually played a vital role in the 2nd world war for the RAF, it has one of the highest concentrations of ex RAF airfields in the UK. I'd like to fly and document as many as possible before they become unrecognisable, the scars will remain in the ground but the history will be lost forever.
