This whole album is fire, Josh seems to have put his heart and soul into it. One day DH you should give it a listen

“Like Clockwork” did not have one bad song on it. I know a lot of people like the weird heavy stoner rock aspect of Queens but I prefer there more alternative rock songs. Either way this album is amazing.

I like the line in Go with the flow " I want something good to die for to make it beautiful to live" and The smithereens - Blood and roses " I want to love but it comes out wrong i want to live but i don't belong. 🖤

I love Queens of the Stone age and it's always funny to me when I see the reaction pop up for one of their songs and I know right away whether or not you're going to like it... Sometimes it makes me question why some of the lesser known tracks are suggested, but it's almost sweeter that you kept reacting to them and finally figuring out what makes them great!

Whilst I love Songs for the Deaf and their earlier albums I absolutely live in …Like Clockwork. Melodically and lyrically they are all great songs. Really appreciate the review Dave!

I always wanted to walk out onto the street and sing, "I sat by the Ocean!" And some shadowy figure in the distance stops and sings back, "To drink a potion baby to erase you!" And then we sing the rest of the song while having a party the whole street joins in lol.

Finally an album track lol. You honestly can't hear enough to appreciate all the nuances from the live stuff and that's unfortunately true with most bands so I would never recommend listening to any band live before you're familiar with their studio work.

There can be exceptions, but it's hard to sit through someone reacting to a live version when you know they don't know the original concept and sound. One outlier that comes to mind might be the Terry Kath solo in 25 or 6 to 4 at Tanglewood. But even with that you should know the studio version. It's kind of foolish to watch EVH do Eruption live if you don't have the sonic blast of the studio version to compare it to. Even if a band is great live, it's a completely different vibe if you have nothing to compare a live version to. Live versions should be a secondary reaction.

It's a great song. The bassline is the key - there's a good version on Jools Holland that has a little bit more life to it

I just have to say i really appreciate the way you said to wait until the end of the video to like, if you do.. so many youtubers asking for a like before letting the audience even watch the video.. how can i like something without watching it first!!@ lol Oh and by the way the line "do you know who you really are, are you sure its really you?" Always stood out to me as well, so good.

Oh Dave! I've had a fucking awful couple of days, but today I thought about looking up if you ever reacted to anything Josh Homme, and of fucking course you have! And brilliantly so might I add. Thank you! Now I know who I really am again. 🖤 Much love From STHLM, Sweden

I love this song because it’s straightforward and seems simple, but there’s actually a lot more going on than it may appear. The constant chord changes, meandering bassline, and vocal flourishes really tie the whole thing together and keep it from getting stale.

This is a great example of why it's better to listen to songs the way they were conceived and performed in the studio. QOTSA is pretty unique in that way in particular. Great live band, but the live show is almost a completely different vibe than the albums. I mentioned in other reacts that it's especially pertinent with this band. But it sounds like you've hit on the main theme of this band here, which is all about groove. I get the most out of this band when I let the groove consume me. Homme's lyrics often hit on the theme of lying, dishonesty, betrayal, etc. and are great in their own right. But the real speciality of this band is their insistence that the song is the thing whether it's radio material or not. Great job. I look forward to you hearing more out of Queens.

I agree with the classic rock artists you mentioned. Those are definitely called to mind when listening to a track like this. Which isn't a bad thing at all. I feel queens of the stone age present their influences and inspirations in a package which stands on its own and doesn't feel overly derivative. When listening to this album I also can't help think of The Cars and 80s Bowie, particularly in regards to the vocals
@ignoblesavage5559

Good call on the similarities. JH has always sort of channeled those "sexy Bowie" sounds, and the Cars is a great stylistic comparison as well.

I like their acoustic version is pretty cool too. They were one of the last mainstream rock bands of the 2000s that I remember that sounded like a “rock” band. That’s my personal opinion anyway.

Agreed, and last year's In Times New Roman approaches this one in terms of the ear candy, though it's grittier than LC, with fewer moments of beauty. LC has SO MUCH diversity, & there are no weaklings on that album. First song to last, so much brilliance contained therein. For my $$, Fairweather Friends, I Sat, & I Appear Missing are my favorites, & are all among my favorite songs (all top 25 easy, & I Appear is top 5). If you haven't given ITNR several spins already, do yourself a huge favor & check it out. Obscenery, Straight Jacket Fitting, Paper Machete, & Made to Parade are my mosterest favorites, but there are 7 or 8 gooooooood songs, & as usual, Joshua Homme knows JUST how to close out an album (on Straight Jacket Fitting, by linking up an acoustic version of the main riff from Obscenery, in such a way as to loop the last song to the first)... Bloody brilliant.
