@@AndreOliveira-vm1xz that shit was so epic man, 25yrs as a band and they still busting out some of their most legendary moments. One of the best debut live performances ever
Can't agree more! And there are a lot of people that don't get daffoldils right bc it's the closening song of a HUGE FUCKING GREAT album... it's intense and you sometimes get to to the end really tired from banging and being slapped all the way through
@@DiegoSanchesxD I used to think TCV was quite a frontloaded album, but the more I listened I realised the second half has some absolutely incredible songs that took a little time to grow on me but now completely blow me away every time. It's in my top 3 Homme albums for sure.
I think people have underrated this album. Such a good mix of all the best queens vibes with some new flavours thrown in (especially with production). Love how dark it is.
usually with an album there's a few things I can pick out than im not a fan of even if I'm a huge fan, but with this the ONLY thing I can think of is the falsetto part on the 'I smile' part of carnavoyeur.
It has grown on me a lot but what put me off the most was the feeling of "I've heard this before" when listening. There's lots of similar melodies to their previous stuff, especially from Un-Reborn Again and Villains of Circumstance and some TCV stuff as well. Not exactly the same melodies but close enough that it rubbed me the wrong way at first. But tracks like Carnavoyeur and Sicily make up for it. Those two are truly great.
Such a grower album, Carnavoyeur also grew a lot on me even though I liked it a lot from the start. Insane that some people really dont like Carnavoyeur. I just think its a beautiful song but its different for them
yeah, I've been enjoying the rhythm, the vocal melody, even the sound sodomy ending - since the very first listen. And since this album is a certified grower, this thing grew on me even more. It's so enjoyable
I really love that the album closes with an acoustic version of the Intro Obscenery. Really caps off the album as a whole work and not just a collection of songs. Also there is so much with this album that you can track from other projects that Josh has worked on in the past. You get a little bit of Eagles of Death Metal, Desert Sessions, and Them Crooked Vultures. You can feel the history and experience bleed into this and help color everything. This albums marks another solid entry into a fantastic discography.
Straight Jacket Fitting has been stuck in my head since the album released, I can definitely hear the similarity with I Appear Missing. 9/10 qotsa album 💯 % agree with a qotsa unplugged album.
So glad you've made it back. Been waiting for this listen. Hope you recover soon and work out your living arrangements! This album is a massive grower and I haven't stopped listening to it since its release. Dark, heavy, full of loss and anger, almost frightening lyrically, but a ton of interesting grooves on top with a sound that is both classic queens and super fresh. Stellar. Hope you get to spin it a few times and let it soak deep into your bones.
I cry every time i hear made to parade Josh’s delivery the complete chaos everything just works so well and just has the feeling of a man who’s gone through so much and has nothing to lose so just let whatever happen and just smile
I feel like with QOTSA there aren't any weak albums. That's why it's hard for me to rank this one in their discography, it just fits in so nicely there. On a side note, you shoud totally listen to the new Smile song "Bending Hectic", it's 8 minutes long and apparently not a part of a new album cycle, but just a standalone single.
I honestly loved this album, though there isn't an album of their's I don't love. To me it sounds like a pretty even mix of Era Vulgaris and Like Clockwork with some Lullabies thrown in. And since you mentioned it in the video, you definitely have to listen to their debut when you get a chance. It's still my favorite album of their's.
Exactly what i've been thinking, big Era Vulgaris vibe and soundscape, with the "refinedness" of Like Clockwork but also dark and moody like Lullabies.
I love QOTSA. My favorite album is “Like Clockwork”. Their music always gets better to me with each listen. I just don’t think my simple mind can take it all in the first time lol. Great reaction!
in my heart of hearts i believe Straight Jacket Fitting might be the best rock song written so far this decade, unbelievably powerful songwriting - Queens of the Stone Age forever.
Man this album is a masterpiece and the wait was so worth it. Those guitar riffs on both Carnavoyeur and Sicily are simply infectious, i wanna live in those songs just inject them into my veins honestly
"Straight jacket fitting" is really beautiful and I suspect was originally wrote for a second "Them Crooked Vulture" album... Sadly every new year the possibilities to see a new one is becoming thinner
@@OlegToaster Them Crooked Vultures was a band with Josh Homme, Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) and John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin)... They published an album full of great songs (for my taste). I always hope to see a new one from them... But Jones is growing really old and every year seems more hard to see them coming together
This album did not dissapoint and the reaction didn't either. I have been listening to Straight Jacket Fitting every day since the album released, probably my favorite Queens song. It's like the perfect mix of I Appear Missing and Long Slow Goodbye, and considering how they actually said Straight Jacket Fitting started all the way back to ... Like Clockwork it just makes more sense. I adore it, hauting, yet hopeful.
I was worried because this album (like all QOTSA albums) is very complex and needs a few listens. This guy w the big brain over here got it on first listen 👍
I was waiting for this reaction! This album took a few listens to grow on me but I’m absolutely loving it. SJF just might be my new favourite queens song
Great reaction to the album and has made me appreciate it can even more. I’m going to see them live and I would love to hear them play it in full. I don’t understand why bands don’t do that on album tours more often.
I didn't recognize it at first but the acoustic hidden track is Obscenery. On the vinyl copy of this the real secret track is another Feel Good Hit of the Summer reprise
I couldn’t wait to hear your thoughts on this. Great analysis as usual. I hope all the craziness you have been experiencing in your personal life is getting better.
Love this reaction vid. Big Queens fan and literally listened to this multiple times every day since it came out - not like me to do that with music as I get sick of songs repeated quickly. But this just hits so different and lot of your reactions I'm still getting to this day! 2nd best QOTSA album for me (after SFTD)
"Hambug" from 09 is the record from AM josh produced. The monkeys went to the desert and changed their sound quite a bit, i personally love that album.
With Carnivoyer I’ve heard lots of people say it sounds like it might be about Josh Homme having cancer Which he recently revealed he had by saying that he is still healing from a successful surgery to remove cancer
I think it is their 3rd best, behind Songs For The Deaf & Rated R. Not a single bad song here and Carnavoyeur is definitely in their top 5. How would you rank the songs off this album?
For now it's: 1. Carnavoyeur 2. Straight Jacket Fitting 3. Sicily all the other songs are pretty close, and then Made to Parade last. But it's gonna change I'm sure.
One of their best albums. If you haven’t, I’d look closer at the lyrics, lots of clever word play and interesting metaphors. Josh and queens were really at their best in all categories on this album. Also, live debut of straight jacket fitting is something to check out too
Straight Jacket Fitting is also crazy if u actually listen to the lyrics it’s the times we live in and also the reference to The Doors Roadhouse Blues is brilliant
Would love to see what you think of their first album. It's almost completely stripped of all the layers you get on thier later stuff but it's definitely a fan favorite because it's just who josh is at his core I feel. Just perfectly dirty desert rock
@@billynotreally2811 haha nice, i love that because every single album is top notch, rankings don’t really matter, just different albums for different moods.
Stoked up on Carnavoyeur, which is brilliant to see. People don’t like it. I agree, it’s one of their best songs. This album is Fuckin great, I think you’ll end up loving made to parade and of course, I concur that SJF is an instant Qotsa classic
Dunno if anyone else commented this, but the Arctic Monkeys/QOTSA thing on Peephole - the bassline is very similar, basically same rhythm as Do Me a Favour! Both great songs tho
Very thankful that ITNR didn’t turn into a Villains Part 2. That album just hasn’t stuck with me 5 listens deep unlike pretty much every other Queens record. ITNR brings flavors from pretty much their whole discography to the forefront. That sustained note/feedback on Sicily is reminiscent of the feedback on Better Life Through Chemistry on Rated R. Paper Machetes got that drive you hear a lot throughout SftD. Negative Space has some Little Sister vibes off of LtP. The main lead hook in Time & Place gives me Into the Hollow vibes. Just a few things that come to mind at the top of my head. Besides villains I think everything they’ve put out is a solid 7/10 if not higher
@@NightwalkReal I’ll have to give that album more listens but after 5 listens, the last song you mentioned (4:20 and onward kinda reminds me of something off …Like Clockwork) probably my favorite off the record besides Domesticated Animals (main riff bit similar to I’m Designer & imo it’s like if I’m Designer verse & My God Is the Suns ascending chorus had a baby). Personally I think Villains has some cool arrangements with familiar tones/Melodie’s similar to previous efforts listed above, but I feel like it doesn’t fire on all cylinders. That’s not to say there aren’t any strong moments, I think it’s just a bit inconsistent is all.
Carnavoyeur makes me think that Josh invited Bill Wurtz to his house to do something cool with U.S. history but then Bill hit a bong for the first time and made this song instead lmao.
yeah, I mean, so far I've seen only SFTD oldfag purists complain. This work destroys villains, yeah, it lacks the catchy poppy QOTSA motives... But overall it has a lot of influence from Era, Lullabies, even some TCV swag, not a single "filler" track (though I fell like made to parade is the weakest one), but holy hell it's a great album. It's not their strongest work for sure, but just because other QOTSA albums are fucking timeless masterpieces, and Like Clockwork was their commercial peak.
With acoustic there is a great session with acoustic versions it's not acoustic acoustic but anyway after villains pt2 you should react to it or just listen to some good mix of acoustic queen's songs, it's a gem to break down to ones and have extatic experience to others.
Uh, that's odd, for me Made to parade is by far the best song of the album, not that i don't like the other ones, but the ending part is just a 2 minutes long eargasm.
Seema strange you would go years between your previous reactions and then not even wait long enough to finish Villains before jumping on In Times New Roman. And where the self titled first album reaction?
Yeah, you definitely need to prepare yourself to listen to this album, LPs caught me off guard at first. Still not my favorite album but interesting. Straight Jacket Fitting gave me huge The Doors vibes, I'm addicted to it.
This record has more in common w TCV and a few of the last Desert Sessions songs than any other of their work…but it’s not as heavy of a experience…it’s fun and tips it’s hat to many genres….this is an Easter egg album….but if all your after is the candy inside the egg you’ll be missing the point of this bands musical perspective….
This is just my humble opinion so feel completely free to disagree: only someone that's been listening to queens for 25 years can appreciate this album for what it is
