This dong describes my recovery from a Traumatic Brain Injury from being shot in the head. This year is my 27th Anniverary of surviving. This song helped push me onward when I wanted to quit. Thanks Queendryche.
+MrGreycharles Rap is good too and even Metal can be pretentious, just listen to Glam Metal or pornogore. You can enjoy Rap and Metal like Anthrax and Faith No More does.
Ken Brookins - Late 80's early 90's my friend, Freddie Woods, a tall black man from Detroit was a drummer in a local band & a DJ at KOMP a rock station in Vegas for years. One of the biggest and baddest head bangers I ever knew and an AWESOME radio personality! Biggest fan of KISS i ever knew, too. His skin color was irrelevant to me. In fact, we had been hanging out for a couple of years when one day I said to him, "OMG! Freddie you're a black man!". He replied, " You just noticed that?". "Actually, yes" I replied. We both laughed about that for a long time afterwards. When he would play the song "Hot Cherie" by Hardline at KOMP during his shift, that was a cue for me to come by the station with a bottle of Gewertztiminer (sp?) wine. He got a lot of "love" from the white chicks always until he married one. We had so much fun hanging out back then. Then, as is now, skin color means nothing to me. It's the person inside that matters. Ken Brookins, keep on rocking!
welcome to the world of skin-color-doesn't-matter; and "black" is a strange word for a culture (which is shaped passively by slavery and Jim Crow) rather than a race. As a white guy who is also into this music, I feel like I share some assets of the "black" culture despite my taste in music, but I don't really need to elaborate on this, man. Don't feel weird.
I've been in this "Private Chair" since a 1992 train accident which left me paralyzed since the age of 17. I've used this song as a call to arms if you know what I mean to be the best man that I can be. My daughter calls me the greatest Dad she could ever ask for, so that's good enough for me. Thank you to Queensryche for this song and all who have helped me on this long, painful journey. I won't be torn between the man in the chair and the man who's in my dreams!!
Being in a wheelchair since birth ( I have Spina Bifida) this song has a special meaning to me. Shows that if you have your mind set on something ANYTHING is possible
Indeed my fellow metal heads....All we can do is pass these Classic songs on to....well in my case to my son....And be really appreciates them all...And now he is on his own path to The New kind of Metal like Sabaton...And to tell y'all the God's Honest Truth THEY are GREAT....Right now here in Jersey it's raining Out so I turned him out to Crimson Glory....Lady of winter.....but anyway this is what we as The older Generation need to do is pass all the Good Metal to the youngsters...Like Fates Warning....No exit....Ray Adler's Voice on Silent Cries Classic.... But John Arch has a set of pipes...as well anyway enough of my rambling...LETS KEEP THY METAL ALIVE...,\m/
This song describes me surviving a catastrophic Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI, from being shot twice in the head. I wasn't wheelchair bound, but when the horror is trapped in your head, you can't escape it. I'm now 38 years post injury and have accomplished more than I ever thought I could have. "Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back," powerful words I've lived. Music has power and Metal has driven me forward and classical music and jazz allows me to chill out. Bottom line, never quit on yourself, never stop, never say never! Thanks Queensryche, I've chosen to be the "Best I Can."- US ARMY Veteran, ENGINEERS!
I just truly love reading the comments of this video. Such inspiring people sharing their storys of overcoming difficulties in life. Metal unites and inspires.
"I won't be torn between The man in the chair and the man that's in my dream I'm going to melt the two men into one" These lyrics have to be one of the best motivators i have ever heard for both a message and a song
I also saw "Disturbed" "The Light".. Its another powerful rock song and very uplifting.. would like to hear your take on THAT as well.. trying to find more too..
I was in college when this came out. It definitely inspired me to “be the best I can”. We really need more music of all genres with a positive message as opposed to the negativity we find these days…Thank you Geoff Tate and Queensryche.
Saw them on empire tour back in the day !!! Heavy heavy playing and vocals off the chart !!! I'm 61 still rocking out to empire and operation mindcrime !!! Imitators need not apply !!! Original lineup onlyyyyyyy !!!!
Music can make a difference I have melanoma skin cancer and this song makes me not want to give up life has opportunity and I want to get it and be alive as long as I can.
Home with wife & COVID. Both of us. I needed this song. I don't think there will ever be music like this again. Very sad. The younger folks don't get it. But hey... We got it for us with the click of a button on RU-vid. Gotta love it. What an awesome song. ♥️
This song is very inspiring to me ! Considering I was pushed off of a roof back in August 92 due to a selfish act of an individual. Now I am a quadriplegic trying to live the best I can and trying to do the best I can for me and my fellow human beings!! Queensryche has been a very special part in my life especially this song has helped keep me out of serious depression and to help me continue the fight to live a happy life.
I care for you man WCB retired me till 70 Am 60 now December 07/21 will be my fourth year knocked out of my tragedy Am awake in the midst of a 3 day pain event Keep up your good 💪works No later than 2068 Lucifer comes in a spaceship with his 7,000 fallen He'll pop up on one Beltane A 2 day April 30 and May 1st April 30 is my birthday 666 is no riddle it's simple Satan comes in the 6th seal, 6th vial and the 6th trump as written in the book of Revelations Almost all the world believes him Wait out the storm 5 months later the real Messiah comes and the ark angel Michael lays hold on him and puts him in the pit for 1,000 years while the whole world now in supernatural bodies sees it The ones who did not worship the filthy dog stay in The Millennium Temple and all those suckers are outside After the 1,000 years he is released a short season Whoever sides with him then? Well I wouldn't want to be them at The Great White Throne Judgement The only thing a soul gets to take with them is their good works Keep it up
I second your comment. Geoff Tate is TRULY an amazing and inspiring musician and performance artist. Music artists of today should study him. It is sad how Queensryche threw him out after he poured so many years of his life and soul into the band, but, again Geoff is amazing, he moved on and is making the best of it.
Don't worry, dear he'll never find the gun A child alone in daddy's room The gun was hidden here No one home to catch me when I fall A young man now in a private chair I've seen the world through a bitter stare But my dream is still alive I'm going to be the best I can I want to be a busy man I want to see a change in the future I'm gonna make the best of what I have I want to write for a magazine I'm gonna be the best they've ever seen I know I'll win if I give it all I can I won't let go Gotta make the grade, no I won't let go To be the best man, the best man that I can Back street hoop star you've got it good You were the wonder of the crumbling neighborhood Now taking bids on the next six digit plan Showed me that my will survived The tragedy that came into my life Giving me hope and the new start that I have And I won't let go Gotta make the grae no, I won't let go To be the best man, the best man that I can Step by step I dream the plan From my chair to walking man This constant dream is on my mind Chase the light I see ahead Luminate the path I tread I live to be the best I can Now I'm moving forward and I'm never looking back Straight ahead, focused on the big attack On a roll and I'm never slowing down I won't be torn between The man in the chair and the man that's in my dream I'm going to melt the two men into one And I won't let go Gotta make the grade I set no, I won't let it go To be the best man, The best man that I can The best man that I can The best man that I can
@@johnparks33GREAT COMMENT -I agree 100% Halford, King Diamond, David Wayne, Biff Byford, Bruce Dickinson, Phil Lynott, Lemmy, UDO just to name a few and many more than that !!!🎸 🎸🎸
This song reminds me of my friend William, shot in a drive by shooting. He's in a wheelchair, after surviving a head wound. Wow. What a man, what a talent he has, William is amazing! So is this tune, thanks guys!

Thank you for creating this song, guys. Tuning into it now as I'm on my job hunt. The lyrics and music are pumping me up, and reminds to keep pressing forward, even amidst this this crazy pandemic. I have plenty to offer an employer (experience, skills, aptitude, etc..) and I'm not going to give up; I can't.
Brown Trout They might play videos but it isn't real music. These so called "bands" don't play with the heart like Queensryche, Metallica, Megadeth, and Slayer do. Now I do have to say that Killswitch Engage have done a great job carrying on the metal sound and attitude. Most bands now are afraid of the gain nob on their amps. I have tried to like the bands that are considered "popular" music, but I just can't stand them.
Brown Trout They didnt at one point. Jews at MTV tried to suck people in with music to eventually train them to be like snookie and live in the snookieReal world. I have no fucking clue what MTV is doin and thats the only way to be.TV=garbage
You are comparing perhaps the worst Rush song with one of the best of Queensryche...not a fair comparison. Compare this to Spirit of radio or Freewill...cant do it. :) Im just saying...
Okay first of all they're heavier and harder than Kansas and I don't see them as a progressive rock group okay they are a heavy metal band listen to that guitar and them drums in that bass and his voice not progressive rock hard rock!!!!!!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
It sucks ass that the first progressive metal band that wrote the most thought provoking, mind-expanding music has parted ways. Geoff Tates' vocals crushed everyone and still do. And Chris DeGarmos' guitar work and songwriting stand alone. Metal has a vitality of its own and has taken music to the extreme ; it cannot get any harder, faster, technical, emotional nor progressive. That is why it is the sickest form of music humans can create.
Back then Heavy Metal was the most popular genre of Music. So it attracted the most powerful and talented musicians. Nowadays those talented musicians make songs for kpop music.
This came out when I was living in my car, having screwed up my life and my dream of working for NASA. Eventually I got a PhD and worked on most of the Mars lander and rover missions that have happened so far. At my graduation, they said "Persistence alone is omnipotent". The first, most important, and most powerful thing is to never give up. It's easy to get scared of something that's going to take 5 or 10 years. But 5 or 10 years is going to pass, where do you want to be when it does? Still cannot listen to this song without getting choked up :)
I just saw from a interview that Tate wrote this song after he met a man that could no longer use his legs. People can say Tate is hard to get along with but Geoff will always b QUEENSRYCHE and he's now sounding great again.
That's not true that Tate wrote it Because I did and DeGarmo composed it Look to Sony Music It simply says composed by DeGarmo The St Louis Star wrote the words God knows, DeGarmo knows and I know Any more than us 3 is a crowd
OMGosh - Yes!!! When my daughters were younger, we'd watch this video over & over. I used to tell them specifically to watch Geoff at the End Of The Video @ around 4:28 to the end. [How] He Uses His Hand Gestures To Show His Absolute Frustration... Also, Just How Determined He Is At Being "THE VERY BEST" At Anything Life Throws At Him [Us] W/ Hurdles, Obstacles & Handicaps - How Important His Message Is No Matter How Difficult Life Can Get! It's Certainly A Song That Has Been Over Looked Throughout The Years - No Matter Your Age, Gender Or Ethnicity This Admonition Is Still Relevant Today - Maybe Much More Crucial Too! ~ Peace!
queensryche always gave us the best they can, everytime i seen them in concert geoff tate starts playing piano then he gets fired up and sings his ass of with this song. since the song is call best i can, well tate worked real hard to be the best he can at singing and he did just that.
+Juda Martinez I would like to have attended those perfomances, sadly, times have changed. BUT!!! I do admire everything they've done, I love them. Such magic
Ever Since I Heard This Song after EMPIRE........................ I fell in love with these guys! To Go BACK & Listen to "Operation Mind Crime" Is an absolute Blessing! Queensryche is AWESOME even in 2021!
Fantastic ! Great music and what great times and great memories ! Thank u Sammy for introducing this band to me . Back in the 80s. They are still rockin ! Love this Album. And Empire !
