I actually got to meet him once before he played the whole operation mind crime set very very good live not to mention Geoff is humble and a a very kind man he even set aside his pre show meal to take a pic with out me even asking I just wanted an autograph ended getting a signature stage prop good convo and a pic to top it off oh and dont forget they kick ass lol
Yeah but Glam Rock still had a lot of great songs. Honestly don't get why that genre of music got hated on so much. I've listened to a few of Ratt's songs and they are very good.
@@raijinthemaster88 It was hated for whatvit was ... gummed up hair sprayed nonsense that people mistook for lfe anthems . Itvreally isn't that difficult 🤦🏻♂️
you think this is great listen a song called we are the youth of a nation I'm 50 years old and this song sang to me in my youth now it's the youth of a nation@@larryschellhorn4450
I don’t think the world was ready for these guys..........way ahead of their time, they sound so fresh and relevant, their song structures, musicianship, and vocals are are masterpieces.
My cousin that lived in Louisville at the time introduced me to QUEENSRYCHE in 1983...'Queen of the Reich"..."Lady Wore Black" etc...I was blown away...then 'The Warning' the next year...w/Take Hold of the Flame etc...loved em every since...
just because we are old now does not mean we were always old we were ready, we thought they rocked and we found them relevant at the time but glad the music still speaks to the youth
I've listened to hard rock my whole life (26 years). Not once have I heard these guys on any FM rock station. Nobody ever mentioned them, never heard of them until I bought a newer truck 2 years ago and got 3 months of free satellite radio. It really is a shame how many great bands never got any air time.
Queensryche, didn't get any help from UK radio or TV but were huge in the States and Canada in 1991 which is where I bought the Empire CD (on my honeymoon). I saw Geoff a week ago (May 2022) in a club venue in Newcastle where he did the entire rage to order album and Empire album in two sets. He was amazeballs vocally, and the band were cracking (i.e. very good) too. I've now just seen Whitesnake and Europe and neither Coverdale nor Tempest came even close to their younger vocal performances unlike Geoff. Quite how he sang two full sets then ended on a song with the high notes of Queen of the Ryche I don't know. He sung even better than when I saw QR supporting Dio in the mid '80s. I know he and the rest of the guys had a big falling out with court cases etc, but a Queensryche reunion would be made so much better as a result.
By far not the only band either. For example they never play any of disturbed songs except for those two they're most known for since 2001. Stupify and down with the sickness. I decided one day, almost twenty years late, to check out their entire PLAYLIST, at the time all 113 songs including their off songs, odd balls and rare songs. Every SINGLE ONE of them are at LEAST good, if not AMAZING. I can't believe they only play their mainstream ones. They have some EXCELLENT MATERIAL all through their career. It's absolute shame they didn't get more exposure for their other songs through their career.
I don't know what stations you were listening to, but I remember you couldn't go 15 mins. without hearing Silent Lucidity. I love older era Queensryche but I can't listen to that track to this day. Anything else while DeGarmo was still with them is gold, though. Tate's voice back then was supernatural.
That bass tone is so monsterous. This and Operation Mindcrime are not only two of the best Heavy albums ever recorded, but that bass tone is like a gigantic "This is how you do it" for all eternity.
I saw Queensryche do the entire Operation Mindcrime album in Detroit in the early 1990:s n it was phenomenal beyond words!!!! Geoff Tate has one of the most smooth n mellifluous voices with a range like no other!!! He's one of the very best singers n frontmen of our time. Chris DeGarmo is one of the MOST talented guitar players ever, the entire band , including baseline n drums are bloody fabulous!!! The stage show was totally awesome too!!!; Attaboy, Queensryche!!!!
Alpha Protagonist This is the exact same thing with me. The only difference is that I’m always listening to all this that you mentioned on my own no matter what the music streaming platform is.
God, that Geoff Tate vocals and Chris DeGarmo guitar, this band it's so underrated they deserve more recognition. One of the best heavy and prog metal bands of all Time
@@kovalfetterer8691 Geoff is washed up in ego.. no thanks. The new Ryche is back to writing and playing harder stuff again. thank goodness. Degarmo yes, he and Wilton worked great together, but Degarmo won't come back. But Wilton is a great songwriter and guitarist as well
@@kovalfetterer8691He suffers from Axl -itis. His voice isn't near what it once was, and look at the albums in the 2000's they did. horrible albums and all under Geoff and his wifes control. The band no longer had a say in anything really.
Since I started to listen to Queensryche I never got tired of it. I could listen to this band every single day without getting sick of the songs because they are all extremely good.
only when we rise up as a group and end all the rich/evil fuckers, taking the piles of wealth they have stolen from the rest of us and using it to advance humanity(just think we could have all new roads and bridges nationwide in under 5 years which would also employ nearly everyone out of work or not working enough hours to survive and at a decent wage as well) we could actually cure diseases instead of just "treating them" if all big pharma was owned by the citizens of the USA(yep all those ceos and boards need to be found hanging from lightpoles in every town in America)...........imagine the space exploration we could do if we refunded NASA(how did that one thing not cause instant riots in the streets??? just goes to show that there are more idiots than smart people) with a few percentage points worth of the money we throw away on weapons/wars we should never have gotten into...... we could instead.......bring home all of our soldiers and have them help rebuild Puerto Rico, Texas, Florida and the rest of our falling apart country................let the arabs eat oil.....ditto russia...............just stop sending money/medical supplies/food to those places and let mother nature have her way with them(last i knew you can't eat sand or oil so...............yeah).
BACK IN 1992 AFTER GETTING BACK FROM DESERT STORM i CAME HOME BOUGHT A 79 10TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION TRANS AM AND ON THE WAY OUT i BOUGHT THIS CASSETT(BEFORE CD WERE INVENTED) AND LISTENED TO IT THE ENTIRE WAY FROM MYRTLE CREEK OREGON TO FORT HOOD TEXAS OVER 2000 MILES OF QUEENSRYCHE ROCK ON FOREVER
I have a family member that fought in Desert Storm. He still is in the service. I salute all military & former military. I don't care if it was for the minimum time or longer. All deserve more respect then given.
I listened to this while driving on the Hollywood freeway during the 1992 riots, watching the city burn to the left and right of the freeway. There's no more destructive combination than perceived victimhood and lack of personal responsibility
"On Feb. 19, 1983, three men stormed into the underground gambling club, where they hogtied and robbed 14 people. To cover their tracks, they methodically shot all 14. Only one person survived in what became known as the "Chinatown Massacre," the worst mass murder in Seattle's history.' Queensryche has always been very topical in their music. That was such a tragic day, and yet, they chose to share the story, with dramatic license, about the up-tick of crime.. Always will be one of my favorite bands of all time!
Yeah... the crime is upticking big time now. Crime unfortunately is the domain of the less intelligent and less educated but instead of making sure our children learn why crime is bad we worry about money constantly. We need to start finding out what our children are good at at a young age and then hone those skills so they will be able to make a living not teach a bunch of random crap they'll never use. I never found out what I would of been good aside from video games because nobody around me cared to find out what any of us were good at.
Or should I say that their commentary has proven to be false that none of the doomsday scenarios liberals predicted in the 80's came to be. Don't get me wrong, I love Queensryche, and I even love this song. But you can't change certain human natures. All their religious commentary in the Operation: Mindcrime era looks a bit silly today. Religious leaders have almost no impact on politics today unlike the 1980's. But I can see how it looked scary in the 80's. Even I got annoyed that religious leaders were trying to dictate what I could see on TV. But the conservative movement is dead (as seen with the recent Supreme Court decisions).
I hate it when jabronis inject their retarded political ideology into their work. Instead of grooving to their music I wonder if they have two brain cells to grind together Fuck criminals
Starr Napolitano one time in San Antonio TX he unplugged the microphone in the majestic theatre and sat on the edge of stage and sung ; his voice was absolutely incredible and needed no microphone ...
Kevin Gordon... I'm so jealous! I would've loved to see them live... unfortunately, I was a lil too young to go to concerts... I mean I was 14 or so back then and idk bout other ppls parents but mine were a lot different then parents are today... well my dad was.... my mom actually took me to my first concert when I was 10...warrant and motley crue... Nassau Coliseum... Dr. Feelgood tour... 😀😍
yyrgx hernandez Today?!, This was made in the 90's! Kids are even worse today! That would be 2015! Had some middle school boy flip me off for reason as I passed a school zone; I stopped and he pulled a knife on me....If I were to do anything, the police would have arrested me, not him.
yyrgx hernandez MTV became more about the produced product than about the Music. Now they don't even bother with the music anymore. They all sold out man.
Giancarlo Valdez You're such a naive person, in the past there were bad songs, today too, there is no such thing as a bad generation music, the style changes and some are just used to their type of music
This shit was so true on the streets of Baltimore city back in late 80's, life was full of good times , good parties and good people, then there was the 2am hour when the bar's closed, that's when we would take it to the streets and really get wild. Never a dull moment back in those days.
The 80’s was the best decade ever!!! I grew up in south baltimore-locust point. I grew up with the best friends, in the best neighborhood. I would sell my soul if I could go back and do it again, exactly the same-no changes.
I put Queensryche up on the same level as Megadeth in the subject matter and social awareness. You can't really compare either band in style because they are completely different styles of metal.
This band and two others brought me joy, hope, and meaning in my darkest hours. I am so thankful that when I listened to them, their music, lyrics, vocal harmony, hand to string guitar work, and the drum beats kept me moving onward. These three bands are Led Zeppelin, Rush, and Queensryche. I cannot thank you enough for decades of inspiration, hope, and meaning.
Saw the following wirtten about this song "Queensrÿche has never been shy to speak their minds in their music. Their outspoken and political style have make them one of the most distinguished bands of all time. They’ve written about war, drugs, politics, and all of the above. There hit song ‘Empire’ is no different, but just how accurate is it in regards to political information and current crisis’? VERY! ‘Empire’ was originally a narrative about a young man who sold drugs and got too deep into the business. But plot-line of this song is SHOCKINGLY factual! In the bridge of this iconic song, you’ll hear frontman Geoff Tate recite factual information about government spending. Though the information was based off of statistics from 1990, the information isn’t actually as dated as you would think! The bridge is truly compelling and resonates heavily to this day. But the most shocking part is how true and impactful this song is just with this factual information alone. It’s always scary when a song predicts the future,..."
racefan32 , Very well put! I've heard Geoff say that some songs are timely and others are timeless. You're exactly right about their music being more relevant today. A couple of good examples are Resistance, N M 156 and Enforce. I heard Geoff say in an interview, about the inspiration for The Warning album, that it was the Bible. Specifically, the book of John. I thought it seemed strange, because out of the 4 gospels, John is the only one that doesn't have the Olivet disclosure.
Except it's not about the money. It's about the street credit. You ask yourself what would they do for money when the real question is what would they do for free? Kill? Rape?
It was a pleasure to hear this masterpiece thirty some years ago for the first time. Empire was well ahead of its time and surely rings perfect for 2020.
OMG! I love this song, the energy, the rifs, the voice. Everything. Queensryche is simply perfect. So proud to have found their music without any recommendation. Geoff's voice and passion when singing in "We're stars" video clip, awakened my curiosity, I went and searched for him and the band and that was it, I just felt in love with them 😍❤️
Chris and Michael did a great job a what I would call chord voicing. The best guitar players have this skill and it goes a long way to adding dynamic and tension to their music.
Agreed. Chris and Michael had an awesome guitar chemistry that was indispensable to the band's sound. Like many great guitar duos, they had different styles that complemented each other and they harmonized well together.
I was in 6 grade in 85 and my friends older brother gave me a cassette tape of Queensryche, self titled, heard the lady wore black , hooked ever since ! About to be 50, still listening....
Similar situation! 36 now, dude gave me a cassette in my 1982 Chrysler labaron I paid 300 bucks for in about '07, had silent lucidity. Best fucking melodic I ever heard. Been playing guitar ever since. Talk about chance of fate!
JESUS! no one makes songs like this anymore!! Its more revelant today than 1990.. I tapes this off Headbangers Ball back then. What a great band and great track.
There are 5 bands that I can play on replay for hours upon hours and never get bored. Dokken, Warrant, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen (Hagar & Roth), and Queensryche! Thank you to my dad for raising me on such awesome music! 23, but I feel like a 40 year old man
+Snak Gaming (SnakTV) Your dad sounds cool. Has he introduced you to Alice in Chains? If you like Dokken & Warrant, you might like early Great White, and Def Leppard's early albums (On Through The Night rocks!). Ryche is the best. I've seen them at least 5 times, but only once since DeGarmo left the band. The Mindcrime album is a classic.
I’ve always been a huge fan of Queensryche. Was always amazed how good they are, yet largely overlooked. I’d put them up against the best of biggest headliners of the era.
The bass line and the drums make this song. The low end just ROCKS...Don't get me wrong though. The guitars and vocals are awesome in their own rite. I just think Michael and Scott shine on this track....
Do you have to rub it in. I regret not seeing them with all og mbrs in their prime. Many that had the fortune say it was one of the best concerts they have ever gone to. I bet it was
So glad that this song is resurfacing once again and say this because I believe that it’s a song so powerful that the world needs to stop and listen to what it’s saying
There is not Geoff sounding like anybody else. Geoff Tate is Geoff Tate. Completely passionate about everything he sings. Theses are very serious musicians. You just dont make this stuff up. You have to feel every ounce of it.
Omg 😳 you called it! Omg 😳 look at the criminals in charge today!!!!!! This haunts me!!!!! I’m 80’s and this song was powerful but no one paid attention and it was really what was going on! Peace and love to Queensryche
I always like their guitar arrangements. Perhaps never the fastest, loudest, heaviest or most technical but always sounding appropriate for their songs.
