WOW the hate here...... do ya think mindcrime could be duplicated ? It is a masterpiece This album is pretty good stop trying to compare ANYTHING to the 80s ...ya cant!!!
Yoube officially proven yourself to be one without a clue. Your review means nothing. Go listen to usher or Taylor Swift. Kanye West is actually due for a review.
Never heard Queensryche before. Just listened to Operation: Mindcrime as first track. And now this as the 2nd track. The first one was fucking powerful and full of charisma. While I have just nothign to say about this and will never listen to it again.
Love this song. Like Revolution Calling, it's a fast and furious start to an amazing CD! I'm writing some fan fiction, and this is my main character's favorite song. (Has been since 2007.) I love how the words before this song (on the CD) are "hooray for you convict; you're a free man." I never get enough of the irony.
If you weren't at the Mindcrime 1 and 2 Concert!! You can't understand what it's all about!! People will hate on you when you are an artist...."LIONS do not concern themselves with the opinions of Sheep."
One can back the US service men and women and still speak out against those who put them in harm's way. Which I think is what Geoff is clearily expressing in this song. He made himself quite clear that he did NOT support Dubya as President. This song is about warmongers, not soldiers.
I always had my doubts while listening to the drumming on this album, even before the whole 2012 drama happend, I read somewhere that Scott Rockenfield did not even play on this record. I'm a drummer and a HUGE Scott Rock fan and after hearing the whole record again, I noticed. I don't know how I didn't notice it before, but it's clearly someone else playing drums. That's not Scott's style or way of playing.
This track is not even a human drummer (studio musician). It's programmed MIDI "drums." I'm shocked Scott even agreed to pretend to play drums in the video for this. The whole album feels like one big rip off. So disappointing.
I am also a percussionist and you read wrong. I saw the OM II show in Denver Colorado and it was Rockenfield on percussion. The man is known to be able to play any type of style. The band is known for changing musical composition on every album.
You're a drummer....Good for you. Did you really need to go thru all that just to tell the world that you're a drummer? Maybe if you really are a drummer, you'd be doing what Scott Rockenfield does instead of what you're doing...
Hilarious watching the drummer play to this. The drums for this track are a MIDI recording the producer came up with on his laptop that somehow got overlooked and included on the album.
As I recall, this was the only song on Mindcrime II I could get into. Admittedly, I wasn't able to get too far into the record, but I liked this one. After listening to the original, it really shows how far Queensryche had sunk. I don't know what it'd take, but they deserve to make a great record again. One on the level of the original five albums.
@EGX500 Uh, last I checked, American Soldier was made to honor the struggles of soldiers and highlight the bullshit they have to go through at home and abroad in terms of ill treatment, being sent to their deaths, PTSD, personal trauma, etc. Geoff Tate said himself that he's been approached over the years by a number of fans who were in the military and American Soldier was born of a need to tell their stories. Yes it's about how war sucks, but it's not an insult to soldiers.
RULE 14: DO NOT ARGUE WITH TROLLS-IT MEANS THAT THEY WIN Off that topic, good song. Will give the detractors that it's far inferior to anything from the original Mindcrime, but given what a flawless piece of art Mindcrime was, that still puts it fairly high up on the list.
@planetmercury69 Well said!....It took me a little while to accept Mindcrime 2, but I really love it now, and the live version at the Moore Theater is amazing..
The video and song wasnt bad it is deffinetly about the message. Nothing will probably beat the performance from these guys in the original operation mindcrime show and I have seen lots of concerts and the only one that puts a show on that competes with Queensryche would be Maiden. The show that these two front men put on is epic.
@@BushDid-bd9ms It's especially noticeable in the bridge when the other instruments drop out. The tone is just incessant and has no tonal variety to it.
Just for the heck of it I decided to click on some Queensryche. Haven't listened to them since Empire. I always thought OM was not very creative musically, with a few exceptionsl. I was more into Rage for Order and Empire. Wow, this is good stuff!
I honestly don’t understand the hate with Mindcrime 2. In a sea of metal-operas (Ayreon, Dream Theater, Nightwish, Symphony X and such), I find OM2 quite entertaining and less dizzying than other monster-prog-opera offerings. I think Tate became a scapegoat for many things, and his antics are feeding the negativity. I don’t know him personally of course, but OM2 is clearly not a musical failure to me. Lots of stuff by « legends » like Metallica, Guns n’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Yes, Dream Theater and even Rush are crappier than this. Come on, be fair.
Queensryche were a band that pioneered progressive metal and even managed to move successfully into a layered rock direction with Empire and Promised Land. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to do either alternative rock or whatever Limp Bizkit inspired tripe American Soldier revels in particularly well. A band that doesn't play to its strengths is a waste of everyone's time. Thankfully, kicking Geoff out last year seems to have done the trick. At least the new self-titled is listenable!
I miss queensryche prior to 2012. what happened. The last album I can stand is here in the now frontier, in fact they are my favorite band. I even tattooed their label on my arm. what I have heard from this album so far is noise😣
To my way of thinking Hear in the now frontier is a very poor album. This one is way better, although not as good as , for instance, Operation Mindcrime, Rage for Order and so on.
figure it out how our freedom comes about ??? no matter what it under the gun we are bound to be free as it called . define what freedom means ... and see why the real peace keepers are right in how we hate what frole freedom is
(new lyrics) I've got my clothes as my spares, more copies than I need. Its black leather and glittering steel. The hope is in the land of the brave, there's more opportunity in the iron dipped in wax, than flipping across the news clips, In the fire & steel we can call our own, Turning my head to the real. The way of our path. Make a fight worthy of your attention. Make the reward following getting the thing we decided we wanted, something alot more than our decision to get it.
Didn't they already touch on this subject matter in "Anybody Listening"? Loved Queensryche since the early eighties (Warning, Rage, etc.), and way beyond, but I think they should just tour, etc,... and leave the LEGENDARY status behind them. Mindcrime should never have had a "sequal". Rock on ESP players, -SS
Steve Sullivan look you heard from me on other queensryche blogs i never heard this album i stop when tribe came out and they changed logo so you dont recommend i listen to this album i do like that iam american
@KeenAnthony everything gets political when your dealing with soldiers and war I bought it when it first came out and thought is was a wonderful concept. Mindcrime was mutch better then mindcrime 2. I do like this song and the duet with Dio.
@johnzarcone They were originally called The Mob & at the urging of their new manager they changed it to Queensryche which was inspired by the name of the 1st song Queen of the Reich off of their 1st 4 song demo & there in is the answer to your mystery . I think it sounds like a chess move .
Sometimes I'm afraid that it doesn't matter anymore what we, "as a people", do....! I'm afraid that it's out of our hands now; maybe it's always been? Does anyone know what's going on????? Please enlighten me ~ I'm not usually this scared, but I live in a small town where everyone knows your business. My parents were active church goers. They're gone now & I live in the Family House w/ my kids. Not many people in our small town believe in God & I feel I'm under grave scrutiny. I guess you could say I'm scared.... I feel that our whole lives have been a lie!!!! I take that very personal; it hurts. ~ peace
@Wyndrax Queensryche as a whole is metal. this is one of my least favorite songs on this cd. it did take a few listens to warm up to it, because your expectations are so high from the first, but love it now, glad they did it. their catalog is SO good n tight n original... no metal fan should go without giving them a good try.
@EGX500 Bah, your argument is completely invalidated by your complete inability to type coherently or come up with a complaint that isn't a non-sequitur and/or utterly wrong anyway.
I can only nod my head in agreement. Although I've traditionally been on the side of gun control, I'm now at the point to where guns may be our only remaining recourse to good government.
Gun control is a huge mistake for society. Everyone wants gun control for each individual not killing each other when the fact remains it has nothing to do with the individual. It has everything to do with fighting the government before we all get turned into a number and a barcode tattoo. People that laugh and say it would never happen are a governments dream come true. Germany is the easiest one to look at but there's millions more recent ones you can look at as well. All handed in their guns and all wiped our soon after by their dictators. NEVER give up your guns.
Here's a novel concept: how about it being possible for a band or artist to make headway into other styles and genres and NOT come off as inferior to bands and artists who have already been doing music in them? And while I'm at it, here's another BLT sandwich of wisdom: when a band or artist establishes stylistic consistency and a sound that differentiates them from others, you don't just throw it away: you evolve organically. Examples: Todd Rundgren, Devin Townsend, King Crimson, etc.
@someoneElse06 American Solder was great... But it's not up there with either of the Mindcrimes or Empire. (AS was too much Rock and not enough Metal for my expectations.)
As much as I appreciate the intent behind American Soldier, the album itself ranges from bland to "what the **** was Tate thinking" levels of awfulness throughout. If OMCII was an attempt to cash in on a prior classic's brand name recognition, then this one was just yet more evidence to QR fans that a once great frontman had become out of touch with not only his fans, but with himself as well. On a more positive note, Happy 4th Of July folks! :D
