I was lucky enough to be at this show. I was also extremely lucky to be at their shows from Rage For Order and onward through the years until Tate left. Although nothing beats the original Operation Mindcrime tour, I have to say I really liked American Soldier. It was their only other real concept album and they nailed the feelings of war. Tate, though much older and without the same vocal prowess was still a master songwriter/singer. Aside from the first 2 songs on this album, it’s right up there at number 4 of their best albums.
Such an underrated album. After the first 2 songs (which I admit I don’t like), it’s just excellent right through. The last great concept album. Queensryche nails the emotions of war.
By listening to this performance and comparing it to the studio version, you can tell the band members didn't play on this song except Geoff Tate, Mike Stone and probably, Eddie Jackson.
How in the world were these guys ever Lumped into the “hair band “ category? I mean they were straight up hard rock verging on Metal or vice versa . Lyrically WAYYY more mature and thought provoking than 99% of their contemporaries. Nothing cheesy about this band in any facet . Mature writers and performers. Chris Degarmo and Michael Wilton were such an awesome combo with Chris leading the way , nobody sounded like these fellas . Uniquely themselves
