Quentin Tarantino tells Joe about his plans to close his cinema career chapter with his tenth and final film - possibly the third Kill Bill movie or Reservoir Dogs 2!
Here’s what will happen: he’ll do 10 films, take some time off, write a couple novels, maybe do a stage play and then down the road he will come up with an idea so great that he won’t be able to resist filming and they will market the crap out of it as “the return of Tarantino.” Mark my words.
Hope not his last two was awful the most overrated director of all time made 2 good films that's it who cares if he comes back he's dog shit if you like his last two films you know nothing about films
@@JPproductions303 that's true. Kill Bill is perfectly set up. That being said, Quentin is a crazy motherfucker. Who knows what he has in mind. Kill Bill 3 would be an awesome movie to end on, but it's so easy to fuck up because of the hype from the first two movies.
scorcesse hasnt fallen off. Goodluck waiting for fincher to "fall off", that aint happening loool. Quentin with his writing style can NEVER fall off, like you cant write that good for literally decades and just start writing or making mediocre stuff, i dont believe that in his case at all. For the filmmakers that had fallen off in the past, before they did you could see spot some gaping flaws or flops in their hay day, not the same for quentin cause his attention to detail is everything
I’d rather see an origin movie about Bill, his interactions with Hatori Hanzo, Pai Mei, and the recruitment and creation of his crew of deadly female assassins.
Seemed obvious to me that that was what he was referring to. The bride and her daughter have been living their lives for 20 years, then they get thrust back into that life. Who else would be the one that causes that? Of course he didnt say that, and he wouldn't. But I think that's the case that he was trying to subtly imply.
His whole career is an example of meta before it existed. Him retiring after 10 is just another of his observations of the film industry. He's been a constant example of a "Hollywood" enthusiast who lampoons "Hollywood" while being a part of it. He's a genius and I'll consume anything he puts out.
I actually want him to stop at 10. He is trying to teach us a lesson that there is a special time and place for everything, and he is leaving us these films to cherish.
It's very quinten to do that but nobodies movies give me the same satisfaction that his do. I hope somebody can make movies the way this guy does when he retires.
I personally think that what he's going to do is switch to making TV series since TV is way better than movies nowadays. At least I would hope that's what he would do imagine a Quentin Tarantino TV show on HBO or Amazon or some s*** that would be dope
I hope Quentin makes Kill bill 3. That would be the most epic way to end his 10 films. He has Uma, and Uma's own daughter could play BB because she's hot off of Stranger Things. Everything would align perfectly because the fans of would come out in massive support.
@@anonx111 It could be counting the movies he has written for or produced, or even acted in, but had other directors. The 10 (9 currently) everyone talks about only count the films he wrote and directed. Still, 50 seems kinda high, but then again, he did help get a lot of movies off the ground.
We also have to remember that he takes such pride in his work and if he feels like stopping while he's in a great place to avoid making something he might not even be proud of or really want to make than I think that just shows how passionate he is about film making and I think it's also evident that although he does make films for the audience, at the end of the day he creates because HE loves it and if he decides that that era is over than I respect that.
I fully agree. Phantom thread was a such a shit film for DDL to retire on imo. I would love for him to do one more with someone like Quentin and just knock it out of the park once more.
If I could send a letter to Tarantino I'd say this- Dear Quentin. After 10, move into long form TV. That would make the world so much better a place to be. Netflix, give him a deal. Also- Hayao Miyazaki and Martin Scorsese both rule and they're still making brilliant films into old age.
so taking folks like hitler and slave owners and just running a gorefest on them for americans to get some kind of cheap and fake post satisfaction is really bringing so much to the world? your world sounds terrible.
@@operator9858 why don’t you look at the context of film in the last 100 years and realize how dumb your comment is. Don’t be too cool for school tarantino is a master of something called FUN
It's crazy to think Reservoir Dogs recreated. Steve Buscemi, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth, Michael Madsen, they all played those roles so well and it'd be weird to replace them on screen.
I agree he’s great I’m going to miss Tarantino, Scorsese, and Spielberg when they are gone. All we see are super hero films now and they always made something new and different.
I've really enjoyed Clint Eastwood and Ron Howard's films in the last decade and they're as old as the hills! I understand Tarantino's position, but age doesn't dictate talent. Talent does.
For his final film in hoping he gets all his actors together for an awesome ensemble cast. Sam Jackson, Uma Thurman, John Travolta, Brad Pitt, Leo, chrstoph Waltz, Kurt Russell
He really should count Kill Bill 1 & 2 as one movie. That was his original plan anyway, but he realized that people wouldn't want to watch a 4 hour movie and decided to cut it in half.
I always assumed "Kill Beatrix" was his plan all along. Remember of the speech B gives to the Copperheads's daughter who survives... "When you grow up... and you still feel raw about it...I'll be waiting." Well folks, she'd be grown up now. A better seed for a next-level revenge movie has there never been.
@heebarow Way too young for that, the character was a little girl in the early 2000s. Tessa Thompson or Zazie Beetz are more age appropriate casting choices
I remember the idea was after 10 years pass, they'd film Vol. 3 when the original actress, Ambrosia Kelley, had matured enough. I thought that was a very ambitious idea to plan that far ahead (like Richard Linklater's Boyhood), and would still be very in favor of that plan. Even if they missed the mark, Ambrosia turns 26 this year.
In the scene where Beatrix kills Vernita Green, she tells Green's daughter that if she grows up and still feels raw about it, to come find her. Perfect opportunity to spark a 3rd volume.
Yeah, but with that being said, with Copperhead’s Daughter, Nikki going to have revenge on Beatrix without knowing the real reason why her mother had it coming, I mean we all know that Nikki’s Mom is a bad person, along with O-Ren, Budd, Elle and Bill, but why have a spin off to try kill off the main character after all what Beatrix has gone through, I mean does everyone hate Beatrix, if so I hope Beatrix trained BB for what it could come next, then both BB and Nikki fought to death, and for everyone to support Nikki for her revenge, that’s like supporting a villain to end off the hero. But I hope Kill Bill vol 3 does happen though because Quentin Tarantino is a Genius Filmmaker.
I just hope that Uma is in his last movie, whatever it is. She deserves to be in it after not being in his last 5 movies. Her career needs it too just like it did in 2003.
@Szolnoki diliház Especially these days in reboot, remake and sequel central but if someone's up to the task I think it's Tarantino.. I don't think it could ever top volume 1 though. That movie is a masterpiece in my opinion.
Dude when this guy goes he’s gonna take some of the life out of the cinema with him what a legend man. He should definitely end with a Kill Bill 3 with Uma and her daughter I think that would be the perfect film to end the career on
He's amazing for sure! Kill Bill Vol. 3 and Reservoir Dogs 2....? Well then we need Pulp Fiction 2 as well, RIGHT?! I really hope he keeps on going - Think of the amazing movies Martin Scorsese has done in later years.
Once upon a time in Hollywood does feel like the last film of saying goodbye. I swear people did not understand that film! His 10th film will be his last.. But I think once upon in Hollywood Felt more like a goodbye and farewell thank you for everything. 💙
I genuinely don’t think he will retire after 10. Maybe a long hiatus, but then he’ll come back with a 11 and 12 and however many more and say “I seen the state of cinema and felt like it needed someone to help it…” or something along the lines of that.
I don't think he would try to "help cinema" with his movies, and at the end of the day I don't think he could actually help cinema with just his movies and I trust he knows that
The man is beyond genius. The energy expended to imagine every plot, charachter, twist, matched to a specific actor, years in advance, must be stupendous. I will watch whatever he comes up with. With glee.
David Lynch and Fincher are still capable of doing great work. Twin Peaks 3 was insanely good. I like seeing decent directors mature/mellow and turn their angle slightly, eg Scorsese with The Irishman, it would be sad not to see QTs take on life as he gets older.
I think Tarantino hugely underestimates the wasteland he will leave us to live in once he finishes. A world without a new Tarantino movie to look forward to is a much less colourful world.
@@mackychloe I honestly didn’t feel that Django was dragged out like once upon a time in Hollywood honestly I would’ve liked another shoot out or so in Django but Sometimes when there’s not a lot of action scenes and there’s only one or two really good shootouts it makes those way better
I predict the tenth, then a retirement, delving into other outlets that let him scratch the itch (plays, TV, books), then I think one last one in say, a decade. Like top secret, it films and wraps without anyone’s knowledge, NDA’d up the ass, and then it just drops worldwide out of nowhere in cinemas on some random Tuesday or something. That is a mic drop.
I'd be happy if he produced sequels by way of graphic novels, imagine how much character back stories we'd get. And he could do his own film/ graphic novel universe
When he stops making movies its gonna be a total loss to the film industry. He's one of the few directors that get full control and not Total fuck it up.
He’s one of the few directors who doesn’t have to compromise his vision to get a movie made. We all show up because his vision is exactly what we built up in our heads.
The fact that he said that Gogo Yubari has a twin sister who is looking for revenge absolutely gets me so hyped I don't know what to do with myself. I feel like I can run a marathon right now I'm so hyped. Too bad it won't happen.
When Beatrix visits the neighborhood to kill the mom...you hear an icecream truck outside. In the script Gogos sister is in that truck and attacks the Bride when she leaves and has a big shoot out in the suburbs. Bea is shot and hides in a treehouse and is treated by some women living nearby. It was my favorite scene in the script and was disappointed it wasnt filmed. It had a montage of Gogos twin visiting the US and doing touristy stuff like Disney land before stealing the icecream truck to hunt Beatrix down.
NOBODY IS ASKING HIM THE REAL QUESTIONS. HE MIGHT STOP AT 10 MOVIES, BUT I GUARANTEE HE WILL GET INTO TELEVISION. I IMAGINE AN EPIC 8-10 EPISODE SERIES DIRECTED AND CREATED BY QT.
I think I get the meaning behind Once Upon a Time… It’s about Tarantino himself and how some people/journalists are trying to hold him accountable for the violence if it would spawn due to inspiration.
He’s the only person that I study to see when his next film come out. I was pumped about once upon a time in Hollywood like 2 years before it came out and when they dropped the cast. OMG. I can’t wait for his next film and really disappointed it’s his last but I appreciate you Q
Funny how Tarantino tries to hide the obvious plot of a possible Kill Bill 3. Nikki Bell - Vernita Green's daughter - would be the protagonist and Beatrix would be the villain on the run. All the rest he cited are side characters.
i thought there was a rumor that vivica’s characters daughter comes after uma thurmans daughter since she tells her before leaving that if she ever wanted revenge she completely understood. that’s just always seemed like the perfect setup to do/finish the trilogy. she comes along and kills uma thurman and then her daugher goes out seeking revenge
I want to see him do a Connery era bond style film, in the 60s everyone’s smoking red apples constantly, it would be beautiful, but probably won’t happen 😢
@@Biggiiful oh my lord, I need this. Tarantino, fassbender, and 60s style bond. That would be amazing. And Tarantino wouldn't puss out and turn him into a "respects women" spy, he'd make him an arrogant, chauvinistic pig, but a loveable one that audiences would fall in love with.
I read an interview he did in The Sun (British newspaper) around the time Inglorious Basterds came out and it asked him what sort of films he would like to make and he said he would like to make a British spy movie with Micheal Cain. It's the only time ive ever seen him mention this...
@@heroicDale well I have read that casino royal was born out of a Tarantino pitch but he idealised Bronson as bond. I recon Tarantino has a bond style script that he’s probably already written, we should all get together and bombard him with emails and tweets n that and force him to make his 10th film a 60s spy film (with Fassbender as the hero) every one smoking red apples, and extreme violence, if you think about it, it’s the perfect marriage
The next one HAS to be Kill Bill Vol 3 because then that would still count as 9, more fans would appreciate that being the last epic, and he can make one more 🎥
He’s basically saying he has a taste and that taste isn’t going to work in movies anymore and he can literally see movies going in a direction that will erase all the things he used to enjoy and all the things that made him effortlessly make good movies. He’s a fan in a true sense
He can end his career whenever he wants but his point doesn't apply to every director. I don't think that for example Kurosawa's later movies were worse than those that had made him famous. Ran for example is a masterpiece. Kubrick didn't loose any steam either. There were certainly more. Who knows maybe fifteen years later some idea for a movie will itch him so much that he will reconsider. If not, then not.
Their is a difference when the films are adapted. Most of Taratino's films have been original and that's harder to maintain because people become accustomed to your voice and style. Ran is based on King Lear and a lot of Kubricks later work was adapted also.
Only listened to this tonight and a massive Joe R listener and working in Irish radio love your unbiased interview skills. Kill Bill 3 is certainly an unfinished work that perhaps can shift gears. Black mumba is heroine or caves to the revenge. Such brilliance Joe, thanks 🇮🇪
I watched it for the first time the other day after reading the script. It’s pretty close to the original in most regards and definitely feels like a Tarantino movie still.
Yea I agree true romance is great the way it is now natural born killers on the other hand should be one he should Redo since they butchered the movie so bad he didn’t even want his name to be put in the credits or Associated with him in any way
I was thinking of Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, and even Spielberg -- and how old those filmmakers are while they are still directing movies. But I think the big difference between those guys and Quentin Tarantino is that Quentin write his own original material so the creative juice may not be flowing . I don't blame QT wanting to go out while on top: he's not the type of guy to just direct a movie on someone else's material. But hopefully in 10 years or 15 years, QT might make a comeback. Great filmmaker.
I think it should be Kill Beatrix- where Vernita Green’s daughter is in fact still raw about it and comes back for her. The cycle of violence never ends. The final fight could even be between both Vernita and Beatrix’s daughters.
It amazes me that QT does not already have ideas in his head for his tenth movie..... or maybe he just didn't want share them. He should do his own version of Natural Born Killers, seeing as he hated Oliver's take on it.
@@nevercertain Yes he wrote the original story but he defo was not happy with how it was treated, he may want to see it done the way he intended it to be done?
You gave it your best shot Joe, I’m glad you tried to keep him working. Let’s hope that his inspirations will force him to rear his head every so often and surprise us with a movie. Sometimes inspiration trumps plans. 🤷♂️
The special thing with once upon a time in hollywood is the more you watch it, the better it becomes and the more you enjoye th emovie, its such a good movie, as are all movies from tarantino. Huge fan!
The only way to do Kill Bill 3 would be to make it about Copperhead's daughter's revenge for her mother's death. The Bride even sets this up when she hints that in the future she'll understand if in the future she wants revenge and that she'll be waiting.
The industry is in this feeding mentality right now, craddling fanboys with spin-offs, and its a very unheathly way of experiencing movies. Tarantino is saying "no" to those who want more. That's an artists decision and there's integrity to that.
I agree with your first point for sure, but I don't think QT is rejecting the idea of fanboy, spin-offs, and toxic social media campaigns. It's no grander than he says, he wants to stop at ten because he wants to go out on top. The artistic merit isn't in rejecting something else, the artistic merit is staying the master of his own ship.
@@Drexeh i agree with you, just felt like Rogans vibe of "why stop at 10" came from that understandable crave that's got viewers so hungry for content rn. The industry has done it to people. But an artist welcomes you onto his / her ship.
But he shouldn't do it so he doesn't become a failure or has been he should do it because he wants to quit. That's like if I decided to quit doing music but I still loved riding song performing if that was the case I will give a fuck and I would still do it but the only reason I personally don't play music as I don't have the pass your energy for it and if that returned then I would do music.
@@MentalDeviant Exactly, but you're obviously not an ego-maniacal freak like Quentin Tarantino who has lived in the eye of the Hollywood bubble for three decades, and whose major purpose is to leave behind a self-perpetuating legacy grander than oneself. He is one of a handful of individuals in this position to do so, and because he has an astute understanding as to how these things play out, he's doing it for himself in an attempt to write as much of his own legacy as possible. Obviously, he's taking a huge risk writing plays and novels, but as far as he's ever stated, they're just gonna be extended universe and adaption type of deals.
@@MentalDeviant its an artistoc decision, not a consumer decision. People think cause your good at something you should never quit it. But hes doing something integral.
