I wish theyd hold out on the Quest 4, give it a bit more time to be a serious upgrade (oled, battery, graphics, eye tracking, etc), and release around holiday 2027.
TLDR about the new battery tech: *What we want ?* - Longer battery life *What are we getting in the future ?* - more tech/features that will drain the new battery so fast that our battery life will stay the same as it is now.....
I'd be happy with 40 PPD, 120 VFoV, 140 HFoV but that implies a substantial increase in processing. The more power a headset uses, the more you have to worry about cooling. Also, battery tech tends to take a long time to move from research to mass production. I'd be very happy if they could double the production battery energy density in the next 2 years without creating a risk of spontaneous combustion because battery technology is very much the limiting factor in a lot of areas.
I just got the Quest 3. Sadly, my eyes start to hurt pretty quickly, and when things get close, they become unfocused. Additionally, when I look left and right, it becomes problematic (I had LASIK surgery, so I don't need glasses anymore). Blinking is my favorite way of moving, but when I try to move in games that require using the joystick, I get insanely motion sick. I've never experienced that in VR from just walking around in real life. So, yeah, I'm not sure if I will keep it. Maybe it's just not there yet for me.
They need to chill with all the new hardware releases. Give the current headset a longer life span, and spend that time making a huge jump in technology and battery life.
Exactly. VR is not on the same league as smartphones, PCs or tablets. It's still a niche thing. Not to mention that for some VR headsets are just "too bulky", to justify their use. And I hardly doubt that anyone who use their headset once a month or even less, would get new generation headsets on a wimp. I think the feature of VR/AR would definitely be glasses, rather than bulky headsets.
And while we’re on the topic of pronunciation… pretty sure Luxottica is pronounced“luck-ZAHH-ti-ca” and not “lucks-oh-TI-ca”. It’s a portmanteau of the Italian words for light (luce) and ottica (optics). If you hadn’t shown the headline when you said it I might still be scratching my head. 😝
haha, well it's a smart move for those not wanting to invest almost a grand for a stand alone headset. They're treating it like a smart phone service which is smart.
I hope the Quest 4 has a OLED display, at least it won't be for a few years. No one should put off buying a Q3 now that a Q4 has been announced. I did DL the V68 one cool feature, my Aubika batteries now report at full charge 100% instead of something less like 90 or even 80%
I would like to see the meta quest 4 to have a slot for a sim card so that it can have its own internet data and that should be optional with a micro SD card slot too.
Your pup's must think you're crazy. I know mine do. I've owned the Quest, 2, and now 3. I'm retired and I think I'll always want a VR headset in my life, but it's getting very confusing with so many options out there and coming in the near future. So I appreciate your videos, but this one was a little over my head 😅
Advancing? I have not been able to use my quest air link or cable since V.65 (quest 2). Will probably end up buying the psvr 2 with the pc adapter, because I can't stand the compression and hiccups when using the quest with pc. I might add that it works ok with virtual desktop but maaan I need that native VR!
Wait for black Friday to buy the psvr2. Save a little money, and reviews on PC will be out. I've owned it since launch, and it's an incredible headset when devs give us realistic graphics instead of all the cartoony crap
On par? Vision Pro is worse than Q3 for horizonal FOV (cant see your keyboard when typing..?), chromatic abberation and lens sweet spot. In terms of PPD clarity theyre effectively the same. Vision Pro just has better external cameras and no depth correction (so no distortion, because the image is simply not corrected)
Micro-OLED that is, since regular OLED isn't bright enough to work properly with pancake lenses. Plus, Micro-OLED is too expensive to even be used for consumer VR headsets at this point. Maybe by 2030! Q3 needs a micro-OLED display & Wireless connectivity to Series X for PSVR2/PS5-tier power. ;)
My ideal option would be to only have display and sound on the headset and run everything else on PC or even a phone. It would be super light and have more budget for better screen. The battery would probably last for s whole day as well. The cost would also drop to probably 300€.
Interested to see how the 4 shapes up. I can't really justify getting a Quest 3 with as little as I use my Quest 2, but at the same time the 3 reduces some of the friction points of VR so maybe I'd use it more...not a gamble worth $500 when my Quest 2 still more or less works "fine", and when I don't use it for anything other than video games. If the 4 comes out in 2026, my 2 will probably be on its last legs by then if it still works at all (bought in 2021 and spends half of each year totally flat on battery), at which point it justifies an upgrade.
It’s a shame that meta is not looking into 144hz for the future quest headsets because there is so much potential in the level of smoothness and performance saving that 72hz reprojected into 144hz could bring.
They do need to improve the battery life and maybe put it in the back of the headset instead of putting everything in the front. It’s very annoying how we’re always buying power banks because we can’t rely on the standalone headsets internal battery like at all. So basically we’re buying that bobovr on Amazon by a must
The idea is that if it is in the back then you can't just buy any headstrap thar you want. This way you can buy any one you want and you can get kne with a swappable back of the head battery for infinite life but you DON'T HAVE TO spend that much money if you don't need that much life
It is said that the Quest 4, 4s and Pro2 will be released in the fall of 2025. In the case of Quest 4, it is said to have a viewing angle of 130, eye tracking, and 40PPD.
I love Steve getting straight to the video. He is right. We don't have time for any chin wagging. We do have time for VR news, which is what Steve gives us. Thanks, Steve, for being you. I can't wait for the Quest 4, but then again, after buying the 512 GB Quest 3 at the end of last year, I don't want to spend anymore money right away. I understand that technology keeps improving, but that also means new devices we end up buying and in my case had to buy as I had a Quest 1. What could I do. Meta ended support for it. Now in this case it wasn't so bad because I really got an upgrade with the Quest 3, so I am not complaining. Anyway, keep up the good work. I always look forward to your weekly VR news. Take care 😊❤
hahaha theres too much to talk about so enough chinwagging lets get started! :P going from Q1 to Q3 must of been magical :) i dont think we need another headset yet. more games please. im frequently impressed wit the visual clarity in so many games these days on standalone, just need some big investment. I wonder how batman is going to look! thanks so much for the continued support broski :) GOODDAY!
If LCD is in specs, no thanks. Quest 3 LCD last ride on those. They are great for LCD, but i'm ready for the next level....MicroOLED. Quest 4 or Quest Pro 2, whichever has it, has my money. But...Samsung could win me over well before that.
IM not buying another head set untill something come out with an oled screen, I still think my samsung odessy plus vr head set looks better then anything out right now and i only paid 500 for it 3 years ago and it has oled screens, ill take the look of oled over higher res any day !
@@jeffdughman9741 I get the same feeling with my OLED Quest 1. Despite the terrible resolution and screen door effect, the VR experience is somehow more memorable than the Quest 3.
@@SteveKnows Any chance of a review on games that are best to play sitting down. I have an injury and can only play games in seated mode. This would be great.
Even if the quest 2 pro and the quest 4 launches, is it worth to buy the quest 2? I'm from Brazil and due to taxes the quest 2 is about 400 dollars and the quest 3 is 1000. I really want a VR headset so if anyone could help me
quest 2 is still a great device if that's what you are asking. the prices are hurting in Brasil. Is it not possible to order from abroad with an okay price though?
It's funny how people are already rumored for quest 4 well duh a new headset comes out every two to three years and unless they ever catch up with their own technology it will always be that way
We need 16k displays in 2025 and also GPU processing capable of 16k gaming at hi fidelity. Rich people like me can afford to drop $10k on VR headsets. Make it for us rich people, let the poor people stick with $1000 toy headsets.
@@thecaptain9496 Let's see how you feel in 6 months time. The Quest 3 already feels old to me especially after the Vision Pro has been released. If META releases the next one as late as 2026 then they are done.
hahaha forgive me I am British this is not my strong suit! its the first time i came across this name and i think some credit for knowing the J is not a juh sound.
Hahha the last thing they need is more headsets when there's still nothing to do on the first 3. Roguelikes and MR tech demos do not a console make. I haven't put on my Quest 3 in 6 months. With how low youtube interest in VR is right now, it's MUCH less than that because I check back everyday for something worth while to do in VR and there never is. So I'm prolly not the only one driving VR engagement up when we actually aren't even using VR at all.
It's just kind of alarming how un aware Meta is about how unhappy we are with the content. Makes you think if they haven't noticed by now, they never will and nothing will ever change. More rogue like boring games on quest.
@@dtz1000 not sure what you mean? I mean that I have not seen any game look any different on my quest 2 vs quest 3. So no one seems to use the power of the Quest 3 really.
I do not see why face tracking is needed? eye tracking, I can see maybe.. but the FOV of VR headsets are too low anyway, to make eye tracking feel real.
Eye tracking is hard to make worthwile standalone atm, it drains the battery too fast. Mabye it will be possible on Q4 but i think its more a "pro" feature
This is my first time watching you, and you definitely have the same energy and vibe as Techlinked where it's candid and casual rather than just spewing news articles. I love it. Earned a new subscriber for sure!
Makes no sense to release a Quest 4 already.. what are they smoking. And makes no sense to make a Quest Pro 2 since no one wanted the Quest Pro in the begining.. makes more sense to just buy the Quest 3 for companys.
Already? it's 2026 at the earliest. Could come later even. This is nothing new. They'll likely be a quest 5 and 6 and so on and so forth. You can always skip a generation if you can hold out that long.
2026 for the next Quest is a joke. No way am i waiting for that. Pimax are bringing out a micro oled headset next year and I'm sure others will follow. Might be a good time to sell your Meta shares as Meta is too bloated and slow to compete.
I have the q2 and 3 and honestly i have zero regrets. I still play on quest 2 for the long game sessions but content watching and other small games the q3 is my go to
@@clemZboubtoilawhy use the Q2 for long games? Battery life? Weight? I'm still using a Q2 and am thinking about the Q3 now that its been out for awhile.
See this makes me wanna abandon VR all together, I bought the Quest 2 1,5 year later the quest 3 came out and now they're already gonna release a quest 4. It's stupidly greedy. And who on earth is buying every 2-3 years a new quest, with a new iphone, a new gpu, etc? This is why I am still rocking my G27 steering wheel and other old PC components, sick of all these companies.
I got my very first VR device last year (Quest 3). And I absolutely don't regret it at all. As a media consumption device, other than a multi-monitor device, it's just incredible. Give it a boost with QGO, and you've got a super VR device. I would personally get a Quest 4 ONLY if it has significant improvements over the 3. Otherwise, not being an avid gamer, any year upgrades are insignificant for me. I stopped buying new gen devices on a year basis since a decade, now.
So you need to buy a product from facebook but facebook takes your privacy data with this glasses to feed his ai? Shouldn't you get it for free since you are working without getting paid for facebook now. Are people really that stupid today. To walk around the world with facebook camera's following them?
make them lighter...i ll throw my quest 2 and quest 3 soon into garbage. simply too heavy and not comfortable at all. as long as the Vr headsets don't get much lighter and easier to put on and off I don't see a real usecase here...
They just released the three for fs sake And it’s an overpriced pile with dog shit tracking that people like you helped prop up, hiding the fact that the tracking is absolute garbage I don’t know if it’s the camera system they created or the AI for handling the tracking but I didn’t hear one VR content creator bring it up. I’ve heard several suggest that I should spend $300 to get quest pro controllers to combat the god-awful tracking, but I’ll bet that doesn’t help either
what? do quest 3 controllers drift after a few months? That is bad.. my quest 2 do not drift, and had it since release edit: but my right quest 3 controller sometimes "clicks" when I move it.. like it moves out of place..
