A questions and answers session with Sinclair Ferguson, W. Robert Godfrey, Michael Kruger, Steven Lawson, and Derek Thomas.
Introduction (0:00)
Questions:
Why did God form woman out of the rib of man rather than create her separately? (0:45)
Why is God called a jealous God in the Bible, like in Deuteronomy 5:9? (3:54)
What advice would you give to young couples in their first year of marriage? What habits would you develop? (4:40)
If marriage is good globally because it is good to fill the earth, then is it okay to limit the size of a family by choice, through childless marriages or by physical inability good? (7:00)
Is it possible that the apostles erred in any of their writings? (12:11)
If Melchizedek was a Christophany, how does his nature differ from Christ’s incarnate nature? (13:37)
My mom thinks the Holy Spirit tells her things outside of Scripture, is that true? (15:55)
What is one of the best ways to evangelize an unbeliever who is aware they’re going to hell, but simply do not care? (25:50)
What did Jesus mean in Matthew 5:37 let what you say simply be yes or no, anything more than this comes from evil? (27:53)
Can a christian have a homosexual orientation? (32:38)
Can we go to the wedding of a heterosexual couple who claim to be believers if they are already sleeping together? Are we not to the wedding of a homosexual couple? Is attendance essentially making us a witness? And, and if we are a witness at a wedding that dishonors God, is that a sin? Can it be biblically justified? (34:55)
Does Christ prayer for unity in John 17 indicate we should pursue the elimination of institutionally distinct denominations? (39:25)
This session is from Upholding Christian Ethics, our 2022 National Conference: / @ligonier
Questions and Answers sessions reflect the views of the individual speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Dr. R.C. Sproul and Ligonier Ministries. Here is our Statement of Faith: www.ligonier.org/about/who-we-...

Hi there :) I just wanted to say God bless! you have no idea how helpful this ministry and resource is, and the easy access is such a blessing! As a new believer, this is very helpful and the RU-vid is wonderful especially since I am limited in resources. God bless and thank you once again.

I am so happy as a new believer that you have found such mature guidance and teaching. Since you have access to the internet I think that in your general reading and understanding scripture that the online Matthew Henry commentary would be valuable.

39:25 had a good response (and good humor) regarding denominations. Many times denominations themselves are levied against Christianity as a point deviation from unity and therefore an error. I see them as branches of a tree that has the same roots and trunk (essential doctrine) which allows a certain degree of liberty in the implications of those doctrines insofar as they relate to more peripheral topics (church governance, baptism, eschatology).

All glory honour and power be unto Him.....what of jealousy? are we not the bride of Christ...ofcourse He is jealous over us! "I was a husband to you" He says through the prophet What godly husband' is not jealous over his beloved wife? Our beloved us ours; we are His..what a comfort to know He watches jealously over us..

I am truly aghast at what appeared to be such a casual dismissal of a clear Christological statement in Hebrews regarding Melchizedek and not even a passing consideration of Psalm 110:4; never mind the apportioning of sinlessness to Melchizedek through contrasting with the Levitical priesthood (Hebrews 7:1-3). How could sinlessness be apportioned to any "man" but Jesus? Once again this appears to be just another example of "demythologizing" Scripture (i.e., removing the supernatural and replacing it with mundane and worldly explanations). I was waiting for Pastor Lawson to get up and leave the stage. I wish he had. Maranatha!

Jack... In saying this without being contentious, That's an irrational position that doesn't take into account the context of the situation. The enigmatic nature of Melchizedek does have multiple conservative scholarly treatments and necessary understandings... And while the earnestness in heart that is important in preserving the supernatural nature of such things, promoting sensationalized reactions- themselves have their own slipknots that remove guardrails of reasonability. Such is the contention within the cessation debate. Whether the gifts are over...or... the exception... or simply dormant, the continuation side has difficulty in regulating the floodgates of subjectivity. But a full *cessationist (edit) understanding is not honoring the text either. Such also is the varying positions on Genesis 6 and the Sons of God. No one on this panel is advocating demethologizing or liberal dismissal of anything in the text. and Steve Lawson would lose credibility in the interaction that you were advocating. The discussions in these comment sections are an attestation to the volatile nature of the church itself and the predicament that shepherds find themselves in... because the championing of certain positions without consideration for viable range of understanding is irresponsible. God bless

@jackuber7358

@@HearGodsWord You misunderstand me, sir. I believe that Pastor Lawson was the only uncompromised man of integrity on the stage. I think that for the sake of unity and the legacy of Pastor Sproul, that is why he remained silent and did not get up and leave. There will come a time sooner or later, when the compromise will become simply too much and it will be then when Pastor Larson gets up and does not come back. I believe it is inevitable, unless, of course the rest of the panel members repent of their drift and reaffirm a full and complete reliance on the Scripture as completely inerrant and fully sufficient. Amen.

There is a difference between types and phany. Christophany is seen in Genesis 18, Daniel 3 etc. But types are seen everywhere. Melchizedek was a type. He was an actual King of Salem who came to meet Abraham with Bread and Wine and Abraham gave him tithes. No hint is given anywhere about Melchizedek being a Christophany

That's because these alleged "preachers" aren't knowing what actual truth is, they are just spouting nonsense. This is an example of Christendom's false teachings being spread by false preachers, not TRUE Christians, they can't even agree with each other.

RE: GOD BEING A JEALOUS GOD. I think of jealousy as a "branch of justice". God is perfectly righteous to be jealous when something due to Him is given to another, and He expresses ALL his atributes perfectly and simultaneously. Something that we as finite and intrinsically sinful creatures are incapable of doing.

"As known to men on earth God is an invisible Spirit, whom no man hath seen nor can see. He is eternal and self-existent. He creates beings with immortality, but God alone possesses eternity. He is Omnipotent, i.e., infinite in power; shown by all His creations from the infinitely great to the infinitely small." The Royal Order of Melchizedek {was appointed by the Father as a priesthood} to look after, and to provide spiritual guidance to all created beings (who had not sin against God). All created beings are forbidden to interfere with another created being’s life path. 'And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine.' (He was priest of God Most High). (Gen. 14:18).

Paul isolated an outstanding fact respecting Melchizedek, in saying of him: “In being fatherless, motherless, without genealogy, having neither a beginning of days nor an end of life, but having been made like the Son of God, he remains a priest perpetually.” (Heb 7:3) Like other humans, Melchizedek was born and he died. However, the names of his father and mother are not furnished, his ancestry and posterity are not disclosed, and the Scriptures contain no information about the beginning of his days or the end of his life. Thus, Melchizedek could fittingly foreshadow Jesus Christ, who has an unending priesthood. As Melchizedek had no recorded predecessor or successor in his priesthood, so too Christ was preceded by no high priest similar to himself, and the Bible shows that none will ever succeed him. Furthermore, although Jesus was born in the tribe of Judah and in the kingly line of David, his fleshly ancestry had no bearing on his priesthood, nor was it by virtue of human ancestry that the offices of both priest and king were combined in him.

Great insight here. My only push-back might be on the human author of Hebrews being the Apostle Paul ;-)

@@Shabeck100 Are you not a fan of Paul? I've seen a number of people that don't approve of him but I'm not sure what the issue is.
@Shabeck100
@Shabeck100 2 года назад
@@truthbetold8610 Hmm, why would you ask that? Paul was an Apostle, a sent one of God specifically called by Him/Jesus to be one of the foundation stones of the church. And he was an intellectual giant. No, I am a BIG fan of Paul. I'm just not convinced that he was the huma author of the letter to the Hebrews.
@truthbetold8610
@truthbetold8610 2 года назад
@@Shabeck100 I have seen several people sharply criticize Paul saying he was a liar and a false Apostle and I wondered if you shared that opinion. I defended Paul, If he was chosen by Jesus to preach to Gentiles and write most New Testament books then how can anyone say he's a liar? For critics to reject, for example, the book of Hebrews simply because it does not bear Paul’s name and because it differs slightly in style from his other letters is shallow reasoning. B. F. Westcott observed that “the canonical authority of the Epistle is independent of its Pauline authorship.” (The Epistle to the Hebrews, 1892, p. lxxi) Objection on the grounds of unnamed writership is far outweighed by the presence of Hebrews in the Chester Beatty Papyrus No. 2 (P46) (dated within 150 years of Paul’s death), which contains it along with eight other letters of Paul.
@Shabeck100
@Shabeck100 2 года назад
@@truthbetold8610 I hold to the God-breathed nature of the book of Hebrews independent of being certain of its human author (which, in my present understanding, may have been Luke - who was a close associate of Paul). I certainly don't think Paul was a liar and I am all for Paul being the human author of the 13 letters which bear his name and perhaps even Hebrews...though I'm not wholly convinced and it ultimately doesn't impact how I treat these Scriptures. I hope this makes some sense.

I do enjoy the knowledge these men have but it seems like they don’t believe that The Holy Spirit can speak to people other than through Gods word. Which I know God can speak to and though a person hence by His Holy Spirit that dwells inside a believer. The knowledge of the Bible is on that platform but when that knowledge is spoken to the audience is it coming from the person or The Spirit of God. I would rather it come from The Latter. JS.
