I go over the upcoming changes to some exotic armor pieces in Final Shape. The core of the changes has to do with Prismatic, but I'm not sure if they are enough to get excited about.

Overall positive with some questionable changes. The only change that made me just go "But...why?" was the Severance Enclosure nerf. The justification made no sense and it's such an unused, albeit decent exotic. All the other changes I could at least wrap my head around even if I disagreed.

Mask of the Quiet One looks absolutely dope, and I would love to run it if it was actually viable whatsoever. It's a shame that it will never get any love.

​@@epicwuexcaliburumbra1736Mask of the quiet one wasnt even good when it came out. It has the same reputation as eye of another world in year 1. Which wasn't great at the time. People wouldn't look at you weird if you used it tho. But the second forsaken came out it was left in the dust. And I'm not entirely sure it wasn't already power crept before that.

9:00 The nerf to Sunbracers affects the buff to duration it gives to solar grenades. If you didn't know, before, Sunbracers increased the duration of solar grenades from 4 seconds to 8 seconds, which is pretty crazy. Now, after the nerf, it will go to 6 seconds. Not as harsh a nerf as you think.

100% agree. Sunbracers were bugged in the past when they didn’t increase the duration of a solar grenade at all. It was still good, this is a slap on the wrist

Only being able to throw 4 on a snap is a pretty serious setback. The plasma 'nades need lots of help to be good. It's not quite the Starfire sentence, but it's pretty bad.

@@dougcarey2233 it’s not serious. If you run the right mods and fragments, you will have to make a major mistake to not have your melee back after throwing your grenades.

You're going from a cumulative 40 seconds of grenade damage to 24 seconds. It's pretty harsh, though I think it's probably still the dominant exotic.

I was really bummed by severance enclosure. I’ve always loved the idea of it and finally made a solar bonk titan build with it. I’ve been having a blast in onslaught. But these two knocks (line of sight and only spent melee charge) completely take the wind out from underneath this exotic. It didn’t have much to start with and I felt like it was just fine. Seems like I was just beginning to understand it, now I have no use for it. Thanks, Bungie…

They reworked renewals because the benefits are at least somewhat close to each other and you can argue it's a sidegrade by now being able to leave the duskfield and keep the buff. You would outright gut icefall by shoehorning in frost armor though It's an 18% dr buff at x5 vs the current 100hp overshield with 62.5% dr. You'd kill the exotic by replacing either benefit with FA

​@@Piekace I'd give up that DR it currently gives if they removed the slow, and added max Frost armor stacks on activation so it would synergize with a build rather than just being there. Rather than the flat DR and overshield, Frost Armor with fragments and with other players you could keep that DR going for a long time if not indefinitely. Lost all your stacks while moving from a damage phase? Reactivate and get max stacks rolling again. Although now that I've typed that out, that's probably the reason they didn't touch it. Icefall Mantle in it's current form is niche at best, PVP and maybe the odd lost sector. I don't know of any time anyone has or would ever use it in a raid environment or GM's. Ah, another exotic relegated to obscurity like No back up plans and MK.44.

That solar grenade duration change for Sunbracers is a change to the INCREASE. With the Touch of Flame increase on top of the base duration, they’ll still be sticking around for a while. With the well changes you should still be able to kill guardians in a well with a solar grenade.

Honestly, I'm thoroughly *whelmed* by the Exotic armour changes they previewed. Sure, some okay buffs, some small nerfs, and some adjustments to make stuff work with Prismatic, whatever. The ability to get an Artifice slot on Exotics is neat, I guess. The suite of Stasis changes they previewed, I'm actually kinda excited about, to be honest (for PvE). I still don't know if I like that they buffed and slightly nerfed Bubble at base just because Well was grossly overtuned and has been since Forsaken, tbh - on the one hand, HoS-14 might finally get some use, but on the other hand.. what Datto said is true: we just don't really *need* that kind of a defensively-focused Super. The rest of the ability changes are mostly just okay, but I do like the Knockout change. The line that is effectively a warning about Titans being able to generate way more orbs off of Heavy Handed than they have melee charges (smol hammer aside) is sad, but relatively understandable. [Edit:] The raid mods change is actually huge for making them usable, though you do still have to sacrifice all of your Legendary armour Artifice slots just to use them, because they're on that raid's armour only.

Yup, I noticed a lot of people are misunderstanding that. The grenade itself will last 2 seconds less. You still have 5 seconds to throw 4 (down from 5) grenades. I don’t know why that’s so hard to grasp

These changes just don't move the needle enough for me imo. Sure, some of the best things are nerfed a bit, but the same best subclasses and exotics are still going to be the best, and the same worst subclasses and exotics are, you guessed it, going to be the worst. It all almost feels pointless to me.

100% agree on frost armor vs woven mail. Why should the buff that you have to stack overtime still be worse than the buff that instantly gets its max benefits. Imo frost armor should have a higher dr% after 5 stacks

Uptime is going to be the key difference. Woven mail uptime is going to be much lower now that thread of warding only gives 5 seconds of woven mail instead of 10 seconds. Stasis shards are very easy to make, and are made for everyone, and there are even new ways to make them altogether.

Yeah, the difference is potency versus duration. Woven Mail is larger for a short time, while Frost Armor is smaller for a long time.

Because frost armor has much more ways to actually gain it and has more uptime. Woven mail after the nerf will only be 5 seconds of dr excluding cytarchnes and into the fray. Frost armor has potentially permanent uptime with things like renewals and fragments, and renewals gives it to your entire team. And they said nothing about removing the damage reduction, they specifically said the damage resist was replaced.

If you notice at the beginning of the article they say it's only some of the changes. And if you've noticed they only outline a few things in the preview articles and then in the official patch notes you'll get a bit more. Like when celestial nighthawk got updated, in the preview article they never mentioned the damage buff it was getting. But in the official patch notes it noted celestial getting a 25% buff.

It deems like it’s almost purely just updates for compatibility with prismatic, there might always be more they dont tell us about, like the other person’s example mentioned wasnt the first time they buffed stuff but didnt tell us everything

Secants are going to be so much better on prismatic since you have a fragment that gives back class ability while you have a buff active.

I really think its some really inconsequential uninspired changes. frankly already feel like the armor team has stagnated a lot with their patches lately. For every good one like pyrogale we get 3 barely usable exotics. we need a full on exotic repass that isnt just surge pants.

Honestly the whole Powered Melee thing is already kept quite in line thanks to mods like Heavy Handed, in which you need 3 of them (costing 9 energy btw) to let you effectively make an orb every second. Secondly Titans are the only ones outside of Arc Hunter that have an on demand powered melee that behaves that way so not just Knockout but Offensive Bulwark and Roaring Flames powered melee punches will be affected by this. Thirdly there are a number of grenades that can multikill and benefit from orb mods like Firepower x3 often because they linger (And don't forget "Touch of..." aspects that modify grenade duration in cases) and is further exacerbated with a player that knows where to put them but most melees don't do that, at all. Name me a powered melee that lingers long enough to proc Heavy Handed multiple times because I do not know of one on any class.

The severance enclosure nerf was specifically for prismatic. Severance has been ass for years. They buffed it to do two explosions and increased the damage and it finally had a place. But basically what this means is the only way you can use severance now is on prismatic and even still it won't be as useful because they removed its functionality with knockout, offensive bulwark, and roaring flames.

While yes, the Renewal Grasp change in the Armor tuning is unclear about how the rework is happening, the Ability Tuning Page clarifies "Replaced generic damage resistance with Frost Armor". This implies that the enemy damage reduction is still unchanged. Also with the header stating "we’ve updated Renewal Grasps and Ballidorse Wrathweavers to directly grant Frost Armor, rather than their own custom damage resistance or Stasis Shard Overshield." Arachne is also going to be better for singular DR, but Renewal is now going to grant a lasting DR to all teammates and lower enemy damage output even more. I think it will more be a matter of situation and which is better at the time. Personally I think it Renewal is going to be very nice for being in a Well as both buffs will linger when you leave their radius.

What’s crazy is that they said wraithweavers and renewal grasps will be slightly reworked to be frost armor but icefall mantle was left out, So presumably it’ll keep its generic overshield that makes you unable to run rather than a stacks of frost armor that would actually be more useful.

I really don't think that they took away the effects they didn't mention. I think the frost armor updates they mention for example where explicitly about deprecating stasis overshield and they didn't mention the other bits because they are the same.

I think the cenotaph hiding the mark for the wearer is just to circumvent home the exotic is coded. Like if you see the marker and the enemy dies, you get heavy, so it’s just to make sure that other cenotaphs don’t get heavy if they also mark it

There's a list of exotics that I expected to see on a rework list for upcoming DLC, and none of them made it to this blogpost. Really strange overall choices, and I guess I can only hope that they're not the only changes that are coming, because there's so many exotics that are have sat unused for ages now that haven't even been mentioned

Basically of these changes are just for prismatic. just so they work with it and those that they chose to be cross class, like sythoceps and star eater, or ones that will work cross subclass with server nice and knockout. And certain under performing choices that will be on the exotic class items like kepris.

the assassins Cowl destroys (my) Strand Hunter builds. Had huge survivability even in end game. Seems funny one to target while making very mid charges to the well or bubble classes. Play like they want or not at all

They hit the survivability builds. To me that says they want us havin to use the new stuff like prismatic AND I hope I'm wrong but grind and play their little slot machine(for the new loot) more that previously forcasted. Taking a step back this has very little to do with the game but how much players will be playing it. So one hand we all want new stuff and new is good, on the other is feels a bit underhanded but we will see.

The main way ursa works is unchanged. They added the same trait to the new aspect is all, that mini shield ability that absorbs hits and then the titan throws it forward causing damage in front of them. You can see the ability that is tied to the new aspect in one of the first final shape videos. The exotic perk will now work on banner sheild and this aspect ability.

Yeah, Unbreakable is now just small Ursa. If Twilight Arsenal is any good we might see some Ursa usage for neutral game super gains, otherwise it's just a neat little change to keep all of the void titan blocking abilities covered by Ursa.

With the Assassin's Cowl/Combination Blow build, as long as you're getting your melee charge back via something like a dodge, your build isn't nerfed. This is mainly targeted at titans it seems, with their frontal assault ability.

That or run a shotgun with Enhanced Pugilist and One Two Punch. You’ll get your melee in around 4 kills (88% melee regen) Or slap on Utility Finsher. Finisher mods escaped the mod nerf we got at the beginning of the season. I personally switched off kickstart mods for finisher mods since kickstart mods got straight up neutered

Despite frost armour being worse than woven mail it might have a fighting chance. It sounds pretty refresheable and consistent compared to woven mail as you just need to pick up shards. Could be alright with wicked implement

2:09 Duskfield nevwr gave overshield, thr shards from defeated frozen enemy's gave it if running the correct fragment. I agree with you that there is no other way to look at this other then being a nerf with the DR stacking instead of being instant, but i dont see this ruining thr exotic. If however, they did remove outgoing damage from enemies, there is no reasin to run these anymore.

I’m still hung up on the powered melee change, it really hurt severance enclosure but didn’t hurt assassin’s cowl that much. Roaring flames made it run to use becoming a walking nuclear meltdown. I was hoping the new whisper of reversal was going to be able to be used as a powered melee on all classes since Warlock didn’t have one that could be used with its melee/finisher exotic Felwinters, and also give Stasis Titans a way to build into punches instead of just crystal creation or lances.

Tbf, i feel like Sunbreaker is the least affected by this change given the existance of the bonk hammer which you can recharge by picking up, every other subclass actually spends the charge and has to wait.

Anyone that actually used severance enclosure understands that nothing about it changes. You were using finishers or ranged melees for the explosions anyways, and reducing the knockback will only make the chain Explosions more consistent. The only actual nerf is requiring line of sight and that's honestly how it should have been from the start like literally every other explosion.

@@Aj-py8en it’s the powered melee bit, roaring flames let you make orbs of power, stack roaring flames, large scale ad clear, all from hitting enemies. True hammer throw still works, but it has a cooldown now, so it’s not as fast as it used to be to be. Finishers require targets to be primed down, whereas roaring flames empowered melee was absolutely free and could now throw a group of ads. This playstyle always had you in Sunspots because the melee did apply scorch, so you could play close quarters and have sol invictus survivability. And “anyone that actually used severance enclosure” makes you sound like an asshole.

@@Spike2276 even right now it's better to use a finisher. You get a larger more damaging explosion, you can activate it from further away, and you don't lose the ability to do it when you're paper thin armor breaks.

im confused how ICEFALL MANTLE of all things didn’t get updated with Frost Armor, that was my first thought when they introduced it. It should get Frost and Overshield. Or give it max Frost but take away the lack of movement which is a dumb mechanic anyway. Or while it’s active you get max Frost and no flinch for the duration.

Frost armor should have a lower floor that stacks up to a higher ceiling. If woven mail is set to 45% DR, that’s a good baseline. 1 stack of frost armor should give let’s say 7% (we know bungie loves 7s) and stacks up to 5 without a fragment, 35% total. With a fragment should allow it to surpass woven mail let’s say up to 7 or 8 stacks with the DR equating to 49% or 56% respectively. Yes 56% is higher than Void OS or woven mail, but it’s achieved through gaining and maintaining stacks rather than woven’s timer and Void OS’s added health.

Instant slide will always be better to me than charging it in up by sprinting in pvp. No overshield and having a cooldown on stasis shards with tectonic harvest sucks though. Love the melee buffs though. But yeah big rip

Man, Bungie really cannot abide the existence of an effective melee build. Also, if you aren't going to rework trash exotics like Mask of the Quiet One or Mk.44 Stand Asides, then just remove them from the game. No one uses them and no one wants to see them drop from an engram.

@@Cryptic211 100% agree. It was basically a triple nerf: less CC knockback, can be negated by geometry, greatly reduced proc triggers. That's the sort of treatment you give an exotic that is hilariously overpowered--which SE wasn't.

I don't think we're weaker in any way. Because even if the damage strap becomes using the banner shield for survival the new warlock super I think buffs solar weapon damage too and banner is a bigger damage as well.

The new super adds scorch to friendly solar weapons (wonder how that'll stack with Dragon's Breath), so realistically you can just keep the gjally + Apex Predator meta going but now applying scorch while behind a Titan shield. -1 player, +Ignitions.

I don t really understand why Assassin’s Cowl thing would be a nerf ? I mean, don t we all instantly dodge before and after a combination blow hit to proc Lethal Current/get the melee back ? Also Comb Blow grants the dodge back on kill so I don t really see how this is a nerf ? If someone can enlighten me ? Maybe I didn t understand it correctly

Renewals fine. Whisper of chains is the only DR loss, the overshield did not matter anyway, and they never said anything about removing the damage reduction of enemies inside. Now it’s permanent frost armor which you can have outside the bubble and give to your entire team

I don't think the Powered Melee change really affects anything at all? Combination Blow, for instance, turns your regular melees powered, but like, just use your gambler's dodge and get your actual melee ability back. Like you'd always do. You expend the ability, you get the benefit regardless. It impacts grapple melee, I guess? For all those severance grapple builds out there...

It does affect Titans, specifically Severance, massively. It greatly hinders the amount of explosions the player can do, because of the change where explosions will only happen when the player spends a powered melee. Meaning, Aspects like Knockout, Roaring Flames, Offensive Bullwark, and yes even Grapple melees will not work with Severance anymore. Because while grapple melee is a melee, it's in the same vein as Aspect Powered melees in that, they don't spend a melee charge to proc them. Severance has officially been killed in my eyes, which is heartbreaking and pisses me off to no end. Especially because I had a build in mind for Knockout and Spirit of Severance/Spirit of Contact, and it is now dead in it's crib. I didn't even get the chance to build it in game, and they already killed it.

​@@rightful4973arcstrider hunters unpowered melee still counted when you had combination blow active, so you could walk around basically flat-footed and still get healing and invis with assassin's cowl. After the change you'll have to do what you mentioned with dodging again, which is admittedly what most hunters already did anyway. It'll beat a bad habit out by force now

All of the tuning to armor and abilities they’re doing is only the ones that are part of prismatic. Juggernaut and flechette storm are still gonna suck and I can’t help but ask ,”if they were prismatic aspects, wouldn’t they be getting buffed?” This applies to all of the underpowered abilities that aren’t getting touched at all but aren’t part of prismatic. Imo roaring flames needs a buff much more than consecration, but consecration is prismatic, so that’s getting buffed I guess

Idk, I wouldn't sleep on the Stasis changes...shatter buffs, and it's gonna be super easy to keep/maintain frost armor on Stasis, and max FA is almost equal to pre nerf max Resilience so max Resil's 30% plus max FA's 36% assuming you're gonna constantly have it could definitely be pretty strong imo.

As with any of these changes, we will have to see. What I am curious is if using a pure subclass provides any sort of buff. Also, we will be playtesting a new system, possibly the one we will be using in D3. If it can be broken, Destiny players will break it.

I always felt like that behavior was normal. Like, it's the whole reason those aspects do that elemental melee effect for me, because i don't much care for the small bump in damage when compared to normal uncharged melees.

They didn't do enough for Ursa they SHOULD HAVE added all void wepons get volatile rounds and 2 charges for scatter or axion bolt and x4 damage buff so they're not useless for 90% of the time

Yeah, not happy with these changes… nothing got hit super hard so I’m happy about that but at the same time it feels like nothing really got touched ether… like 5 pieces for each class where changes and like 4 out of 5 of them where general updates so they work with prismatic… I was really looking for like 10-12 armor pieces each class getting touched with like 5 of each getting a good size buff/rework like skull of dire ahamkara getting a good buff or lucky pants getting tweaked. Not happy about this patch at all

Don't like the renewal changes even if it keeps the enemies doing reduced damage perk. It's a nerf since now you have to wait to get the benefit you used to get instantly.

You can take the renewals buff outside of the duskfield now though. Get your stacks and you get to keep em even if you leave that small bubble. Might not be a buff in that you need to wait for the frost armor now but the extra mobility is good.

It specifically said the timer so unless it was a gross typo, I don't think tho. However, if it works exactly how it says, it's actually a net nerf. If your have the fragment that extends buff timers on void classes, your Devour timer would increase to 22 seconds. If secant works how I think it's gonna work, now even if you have 22 seconds of devour it'll reset it down to 11. It's great if you popped your rift and didn't get any kills because you're devour timer is 11 seconds and your rift timer is 12, but now it seems like it could nerf the overall usage of devour.

Tritons gives the exact same dmg buffs as synthoceps . However syntho buffs every single melee you have and your super, whereas triton is glaive only. So synthoceps titan is objectively a better version of the triton build, even though triton specializes in glaives.

Senseless nerfs and mediocore changes. Stuff working with Prismatic is obviously nice, but simply nerfing good exotics without buffing bad exotics meaningfully isn't going to shift their usage. No ones going to use Khepris in anything other than strikes

I never say anything publicly when I listen to these but... Man.. This was a pretty mid exotic update. They have so many unused exotics that could have been worked on, I'm left thinking all the rest are functioning as intended (and by that I mean they want stuff to remain unused). There is a rant brewing but I'll save it for my pillow.

So TLDR of all of this abilities and armor changes is that me main Titan is useless in my day1 raid team and i can go with hunter, no buff to Titan so i guess i will now become main hunter on solar and switching star eater barrage, celestial goldie, lucky pants, etc. i think that all bungie devs play on hunter, lol what i see Titan is dead weight in raid team.

Wow, solar warlock just keeps getting curb stomped. They kill well of radiance, without buffing daybreak and now they absolutely shit on sunbracers, dont get me wrong solarlock was used for a reason but I feel like no compensation for those heavy handed nerfs on some pf the weaker portions are uncalled for.

Sunbracers are just going from a +4sec to a +2, which takes the grenade's 4sec base duration (6 with Touch of Flame) to 6sec (8 with ToF) and getting one less grenade per proc, they're still going to be good.

Sunbracers will still be fantastic. Instead of your solar nades lasting 8 seconds (10 with touch of flame) it'll only last 6 (8 with tof) and you'll still be able to throw out 4 huge AOE nades. Plus, if you aren't running sunbracers with ToF *and* Heat Rises, then you don't know how to use solar warlock. Heat Rises gives you like 10-20% melee charge per aerial kill, it's really not that hard to re-proc sunbracers. It's just not as free anymore.
