Hold the media responsible for any damage done to public or private property due to false reporting and instigating violence.

He was on his third gun case. They cried Dont put black people in jail. So, he wasnt in jail. Then he shot at police. This is so stupid. They knew he had gun violations. People need to stop this or we wont have any police.

These people live in a fantasy world. If you shoot at someone, you forfeit your right to life. This isn't a movie where you can dodge bullets or shoot to disarm and the criminal just comes out with his hands up saying 'okay I give up'.

There shouldn't be any questions if you watched the video. Unless your question is about the officer who got shot being okay. Then I would like to hear that answer. I have no time to care about people who shoot at the police (or any innocent person) and there's no such thing as too much force to stop them. These cops he shot at were using life saving measures immediately after they cleared him of any weapons. He would not have done the same.

The lawyer says rightly that the police are to use force only when necessary, then goes on to describe the safety gear and HOODIES that they were wearing in the context of "using force." He doesn't ever describe any real force used against Reed. The closest he gets is saying they had their guns drawn (still not a use of force!) 10 seconds into the encounter (which is slightly inaccurate by about 5 seconds), during which Reed was already disobeying simple commands and rolling his window back up after already rolling it down. The lawyer is either intellectually lazy (unlikely) or intentionally obfuscating. This indeed could have been avoided, and the easy way to avoid it is to not be a criminal rolling around breaking traffic laws and then shooting at the cops.

In the State I live in, someone would be pull over if those windows were as tinted as his windows are. I think the family's angle >> why was he being pulled over in the first place and why were guns drawn on a traffic stop. These are ligament questions but the accused should NEVER try and settle something on the street. This is why we are a Republic and have laws. Things can be settled in the court of law and not by firing a gun.

The question of why the police did a traffic stop on him is noteworthy. But the matter of why this man, free on pre-trial release under charges of illegal possession of a firearm, responded to a traffic stop by trying to murder police officers, is surely far more critical.

For anyone looking for a non-racist comment regarding this incident and the point of the video...its tragic that police and city officials still think its okay to run up on people with guns while wearing plain clothes. This boy lived in Chicago and probably carried that gun for his safety - as is the American way. This event is the consequence of a poorly thought-out plan - resulting in lost lives and people getting hurt. Hopefully the police will reconsider using this tactic in the future as fear goes both ways.

One officer even got shot in the vest. My only complaint is that they fired so many rounds that I don't know where all those bullets were going that missed.

My guess is that they were already in an active investigation of this kid and were enacting a stop on the false pretense of a seatbelt violation to take him down. Hence the plain clothes cops. Regardless of the legality of the stop or trying to enter the car, you can’t shoot cops and expect to not have them shoot back.

This professor is a fool! Regardless of whether the initial stop was necessary or not, it happened. And, the young man's response was to fire on the officers. And, what the hell was he doing with a gun anyway. He doesn't appear to have been involved in any profession that required him to be armed, at least not a legal one profession. He lost his head, probably a long time ago, which is really sad given that he was so young. And now he's lost his life.

I'm confused...the video makes it appear that the Police used excessive force killing Reed, but in the comments people are saying that he shot at a Police Officer first. Which is it. If he shot first, then it doesn't matter whether it was 1 or 96 bullets...attempted murder warrants the police shooting him. Now, shooting first and at a cop no less warrants whatever they did to put him down. I do not understand for the life of me how anyone can take the side of the departed. Is 96 bullets overkill? A reasonable person can argue that. However, if you try to kill a cop by shooting at him, and doing so first....wth did he or anyone else expect to happen. Let's not forget that if Reed follows the initial Police Officers directions at the beginning of the incident....NONE of this would've happened.
