During the approval process to become a licensed foster parent, your social worker will ask you a series of questions about your past and present. This will happen during the home study process and it is paperwork that you will have to fill out. I wish I knew this ahead of time! Hope this helps you! #fostercare #fosterparent #homestudy

I recently asked my caseworker if she was anoyed (or angry) that I didn’t tell about my childhood trauma’s and she smiled. With our organisation it is more a way to measure if you can understand the feelings of the fosterchildren. Apart from my partner she was the first I told that our placement triggered stuff I wished would stay hidden the rest of my life. But because I go to therapy my fosterdaughter knows that it is okay to ask for (proffesional) help.

Thank you so much for sharing! I like that you share with your foster child that it's okay to ask for help when needed. I have had to do the same thing. Helping foster kiddos has brought up some past things and I had to seek professional help as well. If anything, it helped me relate better to the foster kids & helped me heal from the past.

@@Rachel_AllThingsFoster In the beginning I was so afraid that they would take her from us, because I was weak. And that is so not true. And being open to the caseworker has made the relationship stronger, because we tell the good and the bad.

@@manoukadriaans-verkerk7703 This is so true!!! The more open and honest we can be with our social workers the better for everyone involved. Foster parents are humans as well and have the same struggles as everyone else.

I feel like I'm being judged and I haven't even said anything at all.

It's not meant to be judgmental when they ask the questions. It's more so just trying to get to know you and how you would handle having foster kiddos.

Are these things that can get you denied from being a foster parent?
@Rachel_AllThingsFoster
@Rachel_AllThingsFoster Месяц назад
Not necessarily. They just want to get to know you better by understanding your history, family life and personal life experiences. They just want to make sure your past experiences won't hinder you from caring for the foster kiddos :).

@@peppapig_is_god6597 You're so welcome! I wondered these things myself before becoming approved and I wish I had known more prior.
