I am a Hip-Hop head that has always been a fan of Rick Astley. The UK has had really great artists, not forgetting Kenny Thomas, Lisa Stanfield London Beat, Phil Collins, Paul Young, Loose Ends, Soul II Soul, Deal, M People, Eurythmics to just name a few...love the podcast especially for open minded music fans...🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This is the best Rick Astley interview I have seen because is not about the same boring repeated questions. It is about music and you let him talk freely.
Ha! My uncle, Peter Robinson, was the A&R who signed Rick. When he first heard Rick's demos he said he didn't believe this nerdy young man in front of him had really sung them.
@@nicokanakaris on the demo tape? I'm afraid not. I think he did then sing something in the office, right? I'm sure my uncle remembers, but unfortunately I live in Bangkok, Thailand these days and we're not in touch as much as perhaps we should be. Whenever we're together I always intend to pick his brains about a bunch of things (Five Star, Rick Astley, Dome Records stuff like Lulu's comeback, Beverley Knight, Rahsaan Patterson and others), but naturally just end up catching up about life in general. I do have so many questions, many of which I've yet to ask. Sorry!
Wow. I watched the entire 1:37:54 of this. Thank you for making this happen Quest and team! A lot of insights on his life story. And what a journey he is having. I was a mobile DJ back in the 80s and if a Rick Astley single dropped, I must have it so I can spin it for a crowd! Haven't had the opportunity to see him live and I hope to experience that someday soon!
Good for you, Ahmir. I bought your CD twice when it first came out because my first copy got stolen. Never is my favorite song. Glad to see you got recognition in front of your mother. You are beyond the dream, man, use it wisely,
They try to portray him as a joke/cover singer. He has a voice and amazing singles of his own. He is one of the best selling artists in the UK ever! Americans can be simple like that sometimes … smsh
