Same here! I usually drop what I'm doing and do what she's doing--lol. Has gotten me into some pickles now and again (this past Thanksgiving, her mini-junk journal tutorial sparked me to do my entire Christmas tree in mini's and other junk journal pieces and parts--'twas a hoot!)

Thanks Natasa! I recently commented I'm not so heavily into JJ-ing lately yet love to watch each and every one of your videos nevertheless...well, this tutorial is THE one that will get me going again. I can feel all the stuff in closets and drawers stirring to be crafted into journal covers. Oodles of them. Off to craft then!

You make everything look so easy. All these covers are so pretty!! I always feel like I have to cover the inside too and that’s where I mess up so I am going to try it your way and stencil if needed or add a pretty pocket! Love that you cut straight on the outside (no tucking! Haven’t mastered those corners yet!) or use the pinking shears! Definitely have to try that! Thanks Natasha! Always inspiring! ❤️

Love these covers! Thank you for showing the process and the fixes. You are so genuine and that’s why I love your videos. I have been inclined to throw things out when there is a mistake but I’ll try to change my mindset to refer to them as a happy accident! PS - And your mastery of English language vocabulary is amazing!! Many native English-speaking people do not use the extensive vocabulary that you do!

Oh dear! See them not as mistakes but challenges (or collage fodder!) How can it be saved? 99% of things can be saved by adding a few things here and there, if possible, taking a few things out--certainly they can become parts for something else when you tear 'em up--lol. Perhaps start a project of just cast-offs (like the Island of Broken Toys in Rudolph). Some of the things I disliked the most at first end up being favorites (over time). Nothing's ever ruined forever/garbage 😉

You are so amazing and talented, Natasha!!!! I love this tutorial and it's perfect timing because I just purchased a bunch of fabrics from a thrift store with the intent to make book covers but didn't know how to go about it. You saved the day!!!! I have hoarded...I mean "collected" 😉 so many different boxes that I know would make perfect journals. I can't seem to throw them out when I imagine what I could make from them!!! Lol! I look at packaging soooo differently now! You explained your process so well and watching you fix any mishaps is very creative. I absolutely love the trifold covers!!! With all this fabrics I've just bought I am definitely making a few trifold covers. I only wish my sewing lines were as straight as yours are!!! 😫 I've got to keep practicing with my new machine. Thank you soooo much for this tutorial. I just love your content. Keep the creative juices flowing!!! You inspire me! 💗😊

I just love your covers! NO, I don't throw them away but sometimes the glue has seeped through in an area that can't be camouflaged. I found I can now use the sheerest of fabrics with Fliselina or heatnbond. I iron it on to my fabric, peel and iron it on a high heat to a sheet of rice paper. Afterwards you can use any glue to attach it to your backing. I make ten at a time so they are always ready at hand. I hope that helps. I really appreciated all your videos Natasa, your creative projects, time and peaceful voice.

I thought because you can see the folded card stock, this could be used to advantage. When using thinner fabric, a “shape” could be glued on the cover and then when the cover is glued the shape would look like embossing. Hmmm…must experiment.

As always I love your video. Your idea is wonderful and it comes at just the right time for me. Like you I loved the problem-solving aspect of junk journaling. It was the part of being a watercolor artist I love the most to. I was blessed by a friend who gave me a box full of upholstery fabric which I did not have. I plan to make a number of Travelers notebooks to sell in a local shop for seniors. We have a number of tourists here and this is right in Old Town Albuquerque. I will make the journals in a way that they can record their travels and have places to keep their little bits and Bobs of receipts and brochures and business cards along with place to put pictures that they may take. I love your work it is always so elegant and beautiful thank you thank you for sharing your talent with us

I think (i could be wrong) in one of the videos in the past you mentioned you do not want to touch any glue ever... and now i see you using your finger for applying it... No? one more alternative to those whos sewing machine is broken again (and tuning is not cheap in local stores) is to use awls and hand stitching perhaps? I will definitely try that and i personally do not mind slowness as the time spent can be used as meditation :). I love your work so much!

You can fix it by painting some glue + water 50/50 on the surface of the fabric. Then the whole texture will match those seeped areas once dry! You can't take them away, but you can make the rest of the fabric match, right? 😁 Or you could also just put glitter, a sequin or some equally tiny embellishment here and there to cover up the spots. 😘😘😘

@@craftygrandma56 why do we even craft!!! Grrrrr! 😡 Sometimes I ask myself that, when it's all going wrong and nothing will do as I planned. I think, "why am I even bothering, when all I'll feel after is crap about myself!" Yes still, we dive in for more! I'd love to be artsy, free flowing, organic in the way I craft, but my brain doesn't work that way! My brain spots imperfections, from 200 metres away, wearing a blindfold....at night! 😲 I'm very particular about the way I do things, very fussy and demand the best from myself. I've totally thrown things away, and cut them up beforehand so I'm not tempted to dig them back out the bin. We must be gluttons for punishment. 😂😂😂

@craftygrandma56 2 года назад
@@tamielizabethallaway2413 LOL!! yes we all have the urge to be perfect but perfection is not possible. Perhaps we are conditioned to do so because of our background or parents. I, for one, was taught to sew perfectly by my mom who was a seamstress (it would look a bit odd with one sleeve shorter than the other!!) ; I was a legal secretary and had to type documents on an old typewriter that you had to throw the carriage return....typing had to be perfect because there were 5 carbons underneath and erasing or later on white-out was simply not permitted. I worked in a law firm where the manager checked to make sure your stocking had no runs; your clothes were pressed and god forbid your pale nailpolish was applied perfectly!!! (those were the 70's!!) Your hair had to look like you just walked out of a salon!! With a 6 year old and a 2 year old, it wasn't easy! So now that I am retired, yes I like my house to be neat but I have overcome the idea that it has to be picture perfect - I rather have it look comfy and inviting. I only started doing crafts 12 years ago after retiring and had no stupid male art teacher to give me a big 0 because it wasn't to his liking!!! So we used to try to live a perfect life but alas! there is no such thing as perfection because what is perfect to me, is not to you! so cut yourself some slack and give yourself permission not to be so perfect when things go wrong!

SO easy & CLEVER, as always. LOVE IT! :) Since you don't prefer to use 'gray interior' cereal boxes... here's an idea that you or someone else may like, so they don't go to waste. Besides being an Analog Collage Artist, I also do and LOOOOVE 'Gel Plate Printing' to use in some of my big collages, zines, and so forth. Those gray box interiors could be STUNNING after being gel-printed on, making sure to use only acryllic paint (no inks). Talk about a STUNNING embellishment, especially if you use some metallic acryllic paints on the gel plate. Incorporating stencils for specific designs and sometimes I use 2-4 layers of stenciling with various colors for abstract effects. Just an idea for y'all! LOL

Lovely! All of them! What I would do with the problem of the folded back edges of the packaging, is before sticking down the fabric, cut rectangles of card the size of the recess caused by the folded back pieces, and stick them down. This would flatten the outside of the cover, and as a bonus, would add extra strength. Once the fabric is on, you would not be able to see or feel any difference in thickness. I have got some old furnishing fabric sample books. These fabric pieces would be ideal for smaller journals, I think. Also, I've got some similar sample books of wallpapers - you could use wallpaper instead of fabric. Some of them are really thick and embossed. They've been sitting around in my studio for years, so perhaps I should pull them out and use them at last!!
