I love my needle book. It save me from stabbing my fingers in my magnetic pin holder I found a bunch of extra needles and will have to do another needle book for my travel tote bag

The simple projects can be the most useful. My needle books stay in the same place in a drawer. When I have packs of needles they tend to disappear. They never go back in the same place twice.

Your needle books are so cute. I made one while watching your tutorial a couple of years ago. I use it all the time - it really does cut down on the number of times I stab myself. There is only one thing I do differently. Instead of making one line of stitching down the middle, I do two lines, about 1/8 inch apart. This gives the book a spine which enables it to stay closed a little better.

Thanks Linda. I don’t normally repeat videos from Patreon to RU-vid but I have requests for a needle book video almost every week. I just left out a couple tips and tricks that I shared with my patrons. Like the two lines of stitching 😉. That’s my preferred technique too.

I like the pieced covers too. I've made ones before using the shorter selvages that I have. Kathy, I don't know if you can see a heart next to your name when you comment but I can. RU-vid says you're a top commenter and you've received one of the highest number of hearts from me. That's Awesome!! Thank you so much.

Thanks for this video. I have been thinking about making one of these for my sewing machine needles with labels so that I know which is which when I switch between different types. Today's scrappy word reminded me of when I accidentally put a sewing machine needle through my fingernail and finger in the very early 1970s while adding an applique dragon to my jeans to cover a whole. I have never stabbed myself that way again. However I accidentally stab my fingers with pins every month or so. 🤷‍♀️
@rsislandcrafts

Ouch. I ran the sewing machine needle through my finger nail bed during home economics in middle school. I never want to do that again.

I have been wanting to make a needle keep for ages! But I think I want to embroider on them for some silly reason lol. Of course, I’ll probably stab myself trying to do it🥰

Not silly at all. They’re perfect for a little embroidery. Have fun!

I'll make some of these to put inside the project bags. I always stab myself when I'm stitching EPP lol.

I’m not even surprised anymore when I drag myself with a needle. I’ve always wondered why does a needle prick bleed so much more when I’m sewing with light colored fabrics? 🤣
@lynnlange1147
@lynnlange1147 2 года назад
I use the one from you almost every day because I cross stitch and often tuck the floss I'm working with right in by the needle. The size is perfect...I should make a few, myself. Lately I have had to hem new jeans...why they think "regular" length is 100 inches long I don't know. Well, not quite 100 but I had to take at least 4 inches off the 3 new pairs I bought. And buying jeans now is no fun! I ordered the exact same size, a good name brand jean, that I had on...tags matched exactly. New ones had a 3 inch gap at the waist. So, I ordered a bigger size and they are 3 inches too big!!! Jammy pants are looking better and better....

These are wonderful for those times when you feel the need to sew something yet your inspiration and energies are low. I stab myself more so with needles than pins and haven't come across a comfortable thimble yet, I have tried many 🥰
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 2 года назад
I would have to wear a thimble on several fingers to avoid stabbing myself. I tend to stab the needle into my left thumb just above the cuticle. I like a leather thimble. It doesn’t feel like it’s cutting off the circulation and it’s flexible.

Thank you for another excellent tutorial. I really enjoy your teaching method -- you repeat steps so that if we didn't get it the first time, we have another opportunity to get it without having to rewind the video -- and I seldom get things the first time around! Take care and I hope you are starting to have some spring weather. We are in for yet another "Colorado Low" which in this area means either very heavy rain or heavy snow -- depending on the temperature! This will be the third one in three weeks -- they have hit the last two weekends and the third one is happening now and will be with us until Sunday. At least this time we won't get snow -- however west of us they will get up to 30 cm (about 12 in.) of snow. We are supposed to get somewhere between 30-40 mm of rain! We had a very long period of thawing and there was no fear of flooding until this weekend. The ground is so saturated that everyone is watching their basements! The farmers haven't been able to get on the land because it is too wet -- and they should have a good start on seeding by this time of the year! Ah well, you can't argue with Mother Nature :)
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 2 года назад
Thank you. My learning style sneaks into my teaching style. Repetition is my friend. Crazy weather. I’ve heard from several people with flooded basement fears. I can’t imagine that worry. No basements this far south. We did get a hard downpour yesterday. I had huge puddles in my yard and the road was a river for a bit but the ground was so dry It soaked It up before the rain stopped.

I have made zipper pouches with fun things inside like folded scissors, needle book (with needles, pins, safety pins, and a couple of buttons), chap stick, and whatever else I can think of for graduation presents. They seem to go over really well.

Excellent graduation gift. I made my kids a cate package when they moved out. Random things they didn’t realize they would need. The pack of pre-threaded sewing needles was a hit. My son has sewn many buttons back on while proudly announcing to his friends my mom taught me how 🥰

When I first started quilting I saw tutorials for needle books. I had no idea what I would need it for. Several years later, I have made several. I like to use two pieces of fabric that I sew together, turn and top stitch as the pages. I have used batting for the pages for the one in a hand sewing carry case I made (it was recommended by the designer). I feel I am frequently pulling at the batting. Since the batting is also furry, it’s sometimes hard to grab the small needles I’m using.

Oh, and “stab”
@rsislandcrafts
@rsislandcrafts 2 года назад
I was the same way. Why do I need a needle book? Now I have several. Same thing with pincushions. I have a needle book that was a gift and It has batting for the pages. Like you, I soon realized that I don’t care for batting pages. Using two pieces of cotton fabric is a great way to make pages. It would also be easier to write on if you’re using It for your machine needles.
