This is my DJI FPV Quick Build Plane. It's a plank - or a flying wing with a fuselage, and it can be built as a fixed FPV system or with a pan and tilt camera assembly. It is a very fast build, and a great plane for FPV exploration. Parts are either laser cut or 3d printed - and the kit is small enough to fit in a backpack before assembly.
Excuse some of the rough video edits - my main computer has given up the ghost - but I wanted to get this out, so I put it together on an ancient laptop just to see if it could handle it. I think the computer did better than I did in putting the video together - but either way - I really like the plane I built in this video.

Hi Brett, very cool concept and builds! Glad YT recommended your channel and you even live in my area. Brutal temps right now, I've also been just working on indoor projects and videos, just too hot to get out. Earned my Sub and I'll be watching your projects with interest!

Thanks for the comment. I agree 100% on the heat - this summer seems brutal. When temperatures get back down, I try and get out an fly as often as possible. Maybe if there are enough folks interested - we could do a meetup in the winter - I love to see new planes and show my builds as well.

I'm in North Phoenix. Once it cools down, I'm open to fly somewhere new. Let's follow up once it cools down.

I'm right there with you. I'm still building, but it's tough as hot as it is here in Phoenix. It was 116 today, and that's just too hot to be outside. Build when you can't fly. It's good to keep a hand in. Thanks for your comment. I'll have more out soon.

were you perhaps at dynamite park a year or two ago (in the winter I believe )?

That's one of my local flying spots - that probably was me. I'll be back out there when it cools down a little - maybe early mornings - but it's too hot in the afternoons right now.

Awesome tips. I am beginning to get into flying. Made 4 planes so far, the last one flew for 4 minutes before crashing and earlier ones flew less than that. Your way is easier to make once I have the parts. Do you sell the kit you showed in your video? The cellophane wrapped parts that you showed? Do let me know. I would love to get my hands on one or 2 of those. Just to learn flying first.

Thanks for the reply. This all started as buying retail kits got really expensive for me when I was learning to fly model planes - so I can absolutely relate. This plane is a blast to fly - but it's quick - and you need to keep the speed up. Have you seen my high wing trainer plane? I have a video at: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qfL5Fo-KBEU.html The high wing plane is much easier to fly for a beginner, as it's a slower flying plane. I actually made the high wing to teach some kids how to fly. It's lighter - and can be flown in a park. Once you master that - and especially if you move in to FPV - that may be a better time to step into a plane like this. it's not that this plane is hard to fly - it just needs to keep the speed up as it's airflow is organic to it's movement through the air, and not induced by propwash where you get the power steering from the wash of the propeller over the ailerons and elevator like you see in most trainer planes. Drop me a note through the website, or my email is in the channel description, and we can figure something out. I'm on a work trip for a little bit - so not at home right now - but I'd love to help you get started. Thanks for your feedback, and I hope you enjoy this, and some of the other builds I've got that I'll be making videos about as time goes on. No matter what you decide - steal every idea you can from my videos, and learn to make and build your own planes. Scratch built planes are so much more interesting and satisfying than store bought stuff- and you learn so much in the process about all aspects of aviation. It's really a cool thing to get into. Thanks for the comment!

Great project. Is there any chance of building one of these that can fly for several kilometers? With a live camera attached to them, like the DJI drones available for purchase.
@usefulaircraft
@usefulaircraft 3 месяца назад
Could the plane fly 10+ kms with a live camera? Absolutely, and without a problem. The camera and control systems have been proven out (by others) further than that - and the foamboard is damn near invisible to the RF signals they use - so it's really well suited. Autonomous versions could (hypothetically) even go further as the latency will eventually cause the DJI camera system to give up when they get stuck resending too many packets. RC Control range would be impacted by your RF environment - but these planes could do remarkable things if given the chance. The regulatory aspect of that is the challenging bit - and I'd rather not get into the issues and opinions around that as it's not a simple discussion or something I can change. Do I like the current regulations surrounding RC, FPV and our hobby? No. I think the government has overstepped their bounds, and is hurting a hobby that brings kids in and grabs their interest. Ours is a hobby that turns aimless kids like I was into folks passionate about aviation, engineering, math and science. Making gateway to the hobby more difficult with challenging regulations only diminishes these kids future, and hurts us all. Operate safely, and legally to the best of your abilities - but if needed and somehow allowed - know that these are tools to do amazing things. I hope that helps. Thanks for your comment.

While selling kits wasn't the aim of this channel - I may do so when the summer cools down and it's more tolerable to spend extended time in my garage. With the Phoenix summer heat I'm lucky to get an hour or two around sunrise to work in the garage - and that's not everyday. I appreciate the feedback - I've got other designs you may enjoy - I hope you stick around. Thank you for your comment.

What is this Airfoil profile?
@usefulaircraft
@usefulaircraft 3 месяца назад
It's an inverted KFm1 if you have a few beers and squint. This plane files due to the angle of attack - it's lift is more thanks to Newton than Bernoulli. That said, it works surprisingly well. At first I inverted the wing for aesthetic reasons, but it flew well, and had reasonable efficiency - so I just rolled with it. Bumblebees and the F104 manage to fly with not much wing, so why not these planes?

Thank you. Learning to make videos is a whole new gig. You can see where I'm having to think about the video process and where I am in that while working on or discussing the builds of the plane. If you were sitting in my garage having a beer while we were building - the conversation would flow far more naturally. I'll get there. Thanks for the feedback. Hang in there - I've got plenty more airplanes to show.
