Mr. White, Sir. You are beginning to exceed the "Marvel Avengers" scale of Super-hero-dom".

I know others have asked and you said that it's on the list, but can I BEG you for a video/series on how You use Console 1 in the various different configurations?? You're the perfect person to really explain how much of a, dare I say, game-changer the system really is. I've been a Console 1 cult member since it launched (for $1000 and made in Sweden), now I own three controllers, and the new one I'm sure will be in my hands soon. But, like you I also have a solid investment in Universal Audio, and people don't really understand How big of a deal it is to say...do everything you just did in this video, except by touch and by ear rather than by mouse click-n-drag. Also, while Console 1 was conceived of as a Mixing System, by switching into Apollo Central mode, and taking control over UAD Console, and a Ton of UAD plugins, during tracking it becomes a Sidecar Mixer, complete with a dozen Unison Preamp emulations, and all the LA2A / 1176 goodness at the twist of a knob. In this near decade that I've been on the system, I have yet see anyone really do a video that moves through the whole system, from tracking to mixing, the way it works in real life. I think you are that man!! (And they should sponsor you for it!)

There was a very joyful vibrato accent that the La-2a ironed out but the 1176 complemented it spot on, my ears.

I've used many HARDWARE 1176's in broadcast and recording applications, and own a pair of them - the REAL THING, NOT the plug-in version. Therefore I really enjoyed this video and will employ this technique next time I record actual instruments. I thought it was interesting how I found myself making the SAME decisions as you did throughout! Thank you!!

Oh I bet those 1176’s are an absolute joy to own and use!! Which revision are they? (They’re all good! It’s just fun to know 😊) Thank you so much for watching!

In these examples you are applying the compression to an already recorded track, but also mention compression can be helpful during tracking. How should one go about setting up a compressor for tracking using this technique? Have the artist record a scratch track with no compression, then make your compressor adjustments, and finally record "for real" with the compressor on? Cheers.

Yes, that’s exactly the way to do it! Ask them to play a medium/average dynamic section - usually something like a verse. Then just find a nice average to base the compressor on! I use this all the time when tracking just about everything. The compressor is often fairly transparent, only hitting when the really big stuff (the guitarist smashes that huge chord, or the singer belts some notes out) happens and it just makes it SO much easier to find your initial level balance when setting faders.

Really interesting, with the RU-vid compression algorithm they use it is a little hard to hear the difference, but I could see the difference. The 1176 seemed to have reduced all levels a bit more but kept more of the differences between the peaks, whereas the LA2A the difference in peaks does seem shorter, but the overall level doesn't seem as reduced. I wonder if the 1176 sounded better to you, as visually it looked like it still had a bit more dynamic range over the LA2A.

Oh yeah, quite possibly! It is all so fascinating isn’t it?

If i had to choose in that case, the 1176 would win for me as well. And o just listen to it on my phone. It’s got a sound that is somehow more “forward”…

Thanks for the videos and tutorials. You have a very patient and great way of explaining. I can see you re-jig yourself to try and explain as simply as possible which is great. Any possible chance of a video on the use of 2 compressors?.over the years seen a lot of people using the la2a and the 1176 together on sound sources. Just wondering what your take might be and why? :) cheers buddy!

Thank you so much for watching! And yes, I can definitely make an LA2A/1176 serial compression video! It is a timeless classic and I’d love to do that! Thank you so much for the suggestion and I’ll sort that out and upload it very soon! Have an awesome day! 😊

@@AlexWhiteComposer Can I add onto that request?? When you do this classic combo, can you go both ways? 1176 --> LA2A vs LA2A --> 1176 I've heard people argue both ways, also generically I've heard it as Fast then Slow vs Slow then Fast. I love your videos so far, extremely thorough and still clear and Fun. Great Work!!
