Thank you for the solution! I've had the dial wheel problem for 2 years. I was sure it needed replacement. I had tried with blowing air and rotating the dial for a long time with no improvement. After using the contact cleaner and rotating for half a minute towards both directions it started working perfectly without a glitch. Thank you so much!
A quick short spray of contact cleaner at the gap at top of the wheel, then working it back and forth for 10 to 20 seconds, and waiting a minute to make sure it's dry (contact cleaner dries in seconds to a minute)... This will sort the issue in about 2 minutes. This is what contact cleaner is FOR.
I had my Ricoh GR3 wheel replaced under warranty, and the issue started up again with the replacement wheel! Great suggestion on the 1 minute scroll for each direction - that fixed it, at least for now! I hope it will work again if the issue arises again.
@@ToasterVentura By the way instead of your ISO taking up one of the ADJ mode setting slots, I just realized you can use the top wheel (near the shutter button) to change ISO in addition to the scroll wheel. Very useful, especially as since the new update I have Snap Distance Priority in my ADJ mode slot.
The wheel still works from directional pad stand point. Just the scroll needs a warm up before usage. I saw Samual Street life's GRiii also has scroll wheel issue and he is a GR rep lol. It's a problem and Ricoh is not willing to fix it
@@ToasterVentura I shot in M mode the command dial is set for speed, as the front wheel for Aperture. And the back wheel is defaulted for EV compensation.
So I was able to fix it but it was a risky last ditch effort. I ended up getting pissed off one day and went a head and dropped a couple drops of sensor cleaner on the wheel, then just spin the scroll wheel like 100x each way. Waited several hours for it to dry and now it actually works perfectly again for now. It’s a do it at your own risk fix for sure
I happened upon this by accident, having resigned myself to just living with my aberrant scroll wheel for some time now. I paused the video to try the suggestion of keeping it turned off and literally just revolving the scroll wheel left and right for about a minute each..........and it worked. I don't know for how long it will work, but god bless you sir.
Everyone is out of their minds about this problem. Buy a can of a electrical contact cleaner. This is what it's for. Blowing air or just rotating the wheel (for an exact time in each direction or wtf everyone is saying) will certainly fix it possibly.... but that does not break down the buildup of oil and debris and dirt and dust from your fingers which is what's clogging those conacts. ELECRTICAL CONTACT CLEANER WILL. One quick spray. Work the wheel for a few seconds. Make sure it dries for a minute. Sorted. Sorry so aggro but I was losing my mind when I came across all these sky-is-falling videos and talk of warranty work etc. It's a dirty contact.
@@ToasterVentura proper e-contact cleaner evaporates VERY quickly by design for that exact reason. Just one quick spray should do it. It's *made* for use on sensitive electronics, relays, PCBs, solder joints, connections... etc etc. I mean, no, don't soak it. Just a short burst - most come with the applicator nozzle/tube to get it right where you want it.
I think that disassembling the GR III and directly applying contact revitalizing agent to the dial could be a fundamental solution. Of course, there is a possibility that RICOH's support may no longer be available... Please refer to the following video for guidance. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yJGNKlUBW1o.html
Just today I noticed that my wheel would only INCREMENT and not DECREMENT in M mode, and I'd have to go to A mode and use the upper dial to bring down the stuck EV compensation. I don't know how long it will last, but going over it w/o duster worked for now! Thanks a bunch.
I was struggling with the drift/glitch for so long, and this trick did it for me!! Thank you so much, you really made my day! I love this camera so much and now I'll be able to enjoy it even more!
I literally had to gamble with the scroll wheel just to get the iso right, even with the front dial also have to gamble to get the shutter right 😂. I shall try your suggestion and see how it goes! 👌
Wai Plastic I am a big fan of your channel. I am from HK too dudes. Do you guys have connection with HK Ricoh to see if they can fix it? But I heard it's a design issue and it will come back after you fix it.
This issue and easily soiled / not easily remedied dusty sensor issue has kept me from purchasing this camera, although I’d very much like one in my camera bag.
100% agree, I baby this camera like no other and I feel that it's a fragile one. Although every time I use it, the images come out magical and I tell myself that it's all worth it
@@ToasterVentura I get that. I actually rented one for a trip to NYC and the images it produced were great, I especially like its BW output. Unfortunately the rental camera came with dust on the sensor so much time spent cleaning those artifacts up later. I’ll stick with my Sony APS-C for now with a 25mm 2.0 TTArtisan old school (manual focus) pancake lens for street shooting…
Rather than coming out with cosmetic versions to appeal to people who want to match their phone covers (or Dairy Edition for dairy farmers) it would be good to have a new version that simply disables the wheel and use it as d pad only. Ricoh can call this GR IV and declare success.
had a similar issue but not the scroll wheel, instead it was the 4 direction buttons on the scroll wheel they are not working. Tried compressed air and contact cleaner both did not help :(
@@eldiabolico3750but it’s a pocketable camera, why I shouldn’t use my pocket for it? Then losing any sense of philosophy of the camera. Pocket and professional
@@vilozox first of all, you can use your camera any way you want. Second. it is weird that you do not understand such a simple topic BUT nevertheless, I’ll try to explain it to you… There are pockets and then, there are pockets… try cleaning throughly your cellphone and then put it on the back pocket of you jeans for a few seconds. Now remove it and look at the lint and dust particles that have accumulated around the camera rings on the back. The exact same thing will happen to you GR camera BUT as it is not weather-sealed and the lens extends and retracts creating a little vacuum movement (incl. electrostatic charges from plastic and current), these particles will eventually find their way into the sensor and the lens elements. Now, do the same on your insulated Dawn / Synthetic jacket that instead of cotton uses any Nylon fiber on the external pockets. No lint, no dust, still pocketable. In summer just use a waist-bag or sling bag, not your trousers. A nice Ricoh leather case (or similar) when not in use will also help big deal not to get those particles anywhere close to the lens. Voilà, I hope this clarifies the situation. Merry Christmas and happy New Year 🎊
