I was excited to find this! Took a few tries because when the dryer heats up up after a while it must allow the inner hinge to bend again. But found the sweet spot and worth the 10mins of time. My tip on knowing when you get it -just like in the last part of the video, when it pulls latched on its own, you are good.

3:48 Make sure you check the latch carefully. The one shown is actually quite worn out. I wack my dryer with a mallet. It didn't solve the problem but I ended up breaking the light bulb in the dryer. Replacing the latch fixed the door right away.

Absolutely true. I replaced the hinges and door catch, but didn't fix the issue. So I used a rubber mallet to fix it.

Thank you so much for making this video. I tried replacing the catch and strike thinking that was the issue. I finally noticed that the door wasn't shutting flush when closed. thank you so much .. i thought it was the plastic piece that clicks the door shut you just saved me from tearing up my dryer 😂😂 and thanks for letting us know not to put weight on the door because i was leaning on it trying to clean out the length trap .. i banged that hammer two times on each side and fixed 🙌🏾

I used a 1/2" socket extension as a drift/punch to bend in the area right where the top of the hinge goes into the front panel. (and a rubber mallet in the areas show in video). It seems to be all good now. I also had to replace the plastic catch/latch piece (spare used part) for the metalstrike and bend (widen) the strike some.

I ran into this problem right after I did deep of our Maytag Dryer’s lint remover. The door opened without even running the dryer. 8 taps on each side with a rubber mallet fixed it. Thanks a bunch good Sir!
