Thanks for this vid mate, wasn't aware of hardness in the gauges so very helpful. They don't seem to sell the progressive gauge in Stihl Shops here in NZ. Have tracked down an independent mower shop that does 👍

The main advantage is when the chain get half worn down you really benefit from a progressive gauge husqvarna also make them

I recently purchased a Super Jolly and have done several chains with it. They were all used, but already hand sharpened and raker set with Oregon type gauge tool. Good on me, the hand filing was amazingly close to the what the "grinder" with the CBN wheel revealed. Three of the Oregon 72 link loops of full comp chisel were at or even past half life or tooth length. The Oregon gauge still read the rakers as being right on target. I then used the Husqvarna "progressive" type (BLUE) gauge on the "HARD WOOD" setting and it too was spot on; no difference at all. I then set the Super Jolly to its vertical position and fitted with the thicker depth grinder pink wheel. I adjusted the down travel to where the wheel would just barely make the slightest contact with the marked cutter's raker of each chain as I ran all three of those older chains. VOILA! The wheel found the rakers has been set very consistently. Once set-up, this did not take very long at all. I guess I really did not need the Super Jolly, but we all need a new tool now and than to keep life interesting. And, there is a very large black oad widow maker that I will have to deal with soon.

Hello, Can you tell me where you got those Stihl Progressive Raker Gauges. Stihl does not offer them in the US any longer?
