In sweden you can fail the driving test if you don't use your entire "hand"

Biggest thing for any motorcyclist, is just drive how you feel most comfortable and safe. Also remember to have fun though, that's the whole point of having a motorbike after all

Imo using 1-2 fingers only applies to off road riding, on the street there's no real reason to use less than 4, unless you're doing wheelies or something

Something my first riding instructor told me was set the throttle and just use the clutch to control power… the engine will rev higher but it’s just noise. That really clicked for me. That’s a lot easier than alternating throttle and clutch applications, especially when first starting out. Some people argue that you’re burning the clutch up but I’d rather a change a clutch plate than drop the bike.

Depends on the bike for how many fingers I use on the clutch. Some bike have really strong clutches that you are not going to be two-fingering it -- other bikes have light clutches where you can get by with just two fingers. Same goes for the front brake.
@criley2723
Keep the clutch and throttle 5% engaged when shifting. That makes the shifts smooth & seamless.

Great point for sure. Finding that friction zone will be different from motorcycle to motorcycle.

My Chinese bike the clutch needs two or three hands to press it half way in 😂

I saw your full length video about using 2 fingers on the clutch and my starts, stops and slow speed maneuvers improved drastically. (I've only been riding for 3 weeks). Thanks for the tips.

In MSF you have to use four fingers on clutch and brake. I had a BMW at the time with servo assisted brakes and only needed a finger but I used two. I was starting to study to be an MSF instructor and was warned I would have to ride my personal bike like I teach, even "off the clock", and that included all the fingers all the time.

There's a part of my commute that is a stop sign, and immediately after you turn, you have to stop at a traffic light, and it's all uphill. Stop, turn right, stop, turn left. It's basically an "s" shape. I struggle to do this smoothly, but I'm getting better at it.

Depends on type of clutch, and type of bike

In Canada more specifically the province of Ontario. You need to use all four fingers when braking and using the clutch or you get deducted points on your test
@joaqincastro5613
2 thing I learned about Japanese police riders is that they are really good, and they use 4 fingers
@PatrickImboden
It seems you have not ridden a 10 year old yamaha fazer 1000... good luck handling that clutch with 2 fingers. It's heavy even with all 4 of them😅
@BelfastBiker
Just bought my first motorbike, first lesson next week. My clutch control is terrible, so this video is golden.
