Cool! I managed to get Mint 20.1 onto an old Asus, and install JS8 Call, which I haven’t used, and CHIRP, which I have. I needed the HRCC Facebook group to get me over an install hurdle, and some other cool Linux people on MeWe to answer a question here and there. I am not a techie dude, but the community around Linux is pretty fun. I’m going to sub with bell in case you decide to do some in-depth JS8/WSJTX stuff with Linux.
I have a few in the back catalog. All of my operating streams are done on Linux. Anything you see with wsjt-x, chirp, js8call, sstv, etc is all Linux. Let me know if you need any help.
Hi TO. Please make a dedicated video about installing and setting up CQRlog. I’m having a struggle getting it to work with my IC7300 and a raspberry pi 4….🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 73 OZ4HJ Jimmi.
Hey Jimmi, thanks for watching. CQRLog is pretty difficult to configure. But once you get going it's great. Last time I checked it didn't work on Ubuntu 22.04, I'll have to check again and if it works I'll make that video.
What's the secret to getting photo printing not to *SUCK* on Linux? The same files that print beautifully on Windows or Mac come out a fuzzy, color shifted mess on Linux. That's really the only thing keeping me on Windows. 73 de KN6NPZ
Good thing I put instructions and the description to help out. A lot of this stuff will never make sense no matter how many times you watch it. Its a nudge to get in there and play - esp with a full on laptop computer costing $60 its a fantastic way to get your feet wet and not interfere with your day job. Give it a go!
Great video. I'm new to Linux, I wanted to know how to select the entire log, what keyboard shortcut do I use? In Win Crtl + A , in cqrlog I haven't managed to do that yet . And if I want to export 1000 contacts as I do , the sidebar does not scroll throughout the log it seems to me . Sorry for the newbie question .73 by PY9DM Julio
Certainly come a long way. I started 25 years ago before usb was adopted. It was Hell. Today it's a well perfected OS. It's now my main os with Linux mint. Still learning at age 75 . I forget a lot of cmds , but I managed ok. Thanks for your input on the subject. I envy your keyboard skills .To be expected when your a pro. My daughter fly's across keyboards , she was in webdesign. My daughter took after me as I was an electrical engineer with radio electronic interests, but my son is a coach driver. Hi. He calls me a Geek. Best wishes 73 de gw4gja
I'm old enough to remember when geek was a bad name, but young enough to laugh at the ones that called me that now. It's awesome that you're still learning new things. I hope to be that as I continue to refine (age). Thanks for the kind words!
Hi Steve; I have a problem installing WSJTX and JS8Call on my shack computer. It's a Ubuntu 21.04 operating system and it gives me error messages when I install both that read they use the same files. After that i can't update anything until I remove one of those two programs. the funny part is that I had them on my older Ubuntu computer before and they worked perfectly.
I had some trouble with that as well. Try installing JS8Call first, and make sure you're using the downloads instead of the ubuntu repository versions.
I do a dd if=/dev/sda of=/devsdb bs=1028 once a month. I have a ceon job to tar my home directory, /use, and /etc and delete any tarball older than 8 days. Saved Mr more than once.
@@temporarilyoffline what, the backups or as in video? I'm rebuilding my shack and going to post that if I get off my butt and edit it together. For dd, I use a terabyte passport drive, and the tarballs I cycle three 32GB flash drives.
@@kellingc I was asking about DD, checking out your channel now. I use dropbox for the small stuff and for the bigger stuff I use a RAID 6 setup on a Pi
That looks like an interesting radio! It looks like wsjt-x might have support for the 2059 or the 950. Here are my thoughts: needs sound and cat control. The radio mentions USB for cat control, but I couldn't get details on sound. Looks like a fun project
@@temporarilyoffline I have one, and I can totally understand getting them -- there's something cool about the way it's put together. Completely understandable by opening the box. I put chickenhead knobs on mine and it really made the inductor and antenna selector knobs easier to use.
