Separating the chains on a Scott Bonnar 45 may be necessary when you're rebuilding a mower or to adjust chain tension (e.g. as the metal left on the reel blades is ground away through repeated sharpening). Fortunately it's a simple task:
1. Identify the split link in the chain you wish to remove
2. Remove the retaining clip on the outside face of the chain
3. Lift the top half of the link off the U-shaped inside half
4. Pop the eyelets on each end of the chain off each post of the link you've just disassembled.
Reassembly is similarly straightforward. You may want to clean the chain before replacing it.

About me and this channel: I'm Michael, a homeowner and aspiring lawn addict. I've put together these videos to share as much as I can, as best I can, from my recent experience rebuilding two Scott Bonnar 45 mowers. Although I'm a passionate wood worker and ex-IT guy, I have zero mechanical experience. I'm no expert on these subjects but I learn by sharing and it encourages me to grow a better lawn and build a better mower if I know you're watching!
