Some users seem to have had issues with sorting and controlling the track order in the new VDJ 2024 lists. Here is my experience with it, and a bit of info on how it "works inside"
However it seems that lists are being improved on with each new release. So if you want me to test a specific case regarding list order and sorting let me know - maybe even in the VDJ Facebook group:

2 questions and wishes if not able to do now Is their a way to make the icons on the left side panel smaller They don’t need to be that large and if the scroll bar could be smaller also Simple details like that would make the interface cleaner looking Thanks also for sharing what you learned about VDJ with us

Hi Klaus, I found one problem with the new list order and sorting (for me): I create sets/blocks folder where I store 5 songs from the same genre which fits perfectly together and I'm sorting the songs by growing BPM/power/age. Than I store the block for example with the name: "Soul - Rock 70er-10er (77-123 BPM)". For me it's absolut important that the sorting is fixed. But it isn't! When I move the songs accidentally by hand this changed sorting is immediately saved. In the past I could reorder the list by right click on the top column (I don't know the naming in English - but something like: get back sorting). Now there is no chance to have an "undo" action. I would prefer to have a changed order not before saving the list! I hope you can understand what I try to explain 😅

Yes if you manually move the tracks around they will get stored with the new order. That is how you manually sort your lists I don't think there is a lot that can be done about that, since that is something intentionally done by the user

... that is not new by the way

@@klausmogensen8691 This is not true. In the past the sorting was not saved after manual changes, only after saving the list. This I what I tried to explain... OK, I failed 😞

Audio on your video seems much softer than other videos? Not sure if you have changed your recording setting?

I got a new mic :) It's a podcast mic The old one was just the laptop array mic, and you can't boost that on Win11, so that becomes very low in volume

Unfortunately 'keep order' doesn't set individual order for each list. All the lists with enabled 'keep order' have the same order. Correct me if I wrong

You should be wrong at least :) The idea is that the folder that have it enabled get a unique storage of current columns and sorting If they don't have t i enabled they use the over all columns and order So try enabling it on 2 lists, and add a column to 1 of them. Then it should be easy to see that that the column is only shown on one of them if you go back and forth. For ordering it should then be the original/manual order or the overall order for the who system (based on current column header click)

@@klausmogensen8691 I've checked it again. I even updated VDJ again and I did once more as you wrote. Changes with columns apply to all the lists with 'keep order' enabled. Is it different for you?

@user-wm9kv9uf5t yes. As shown in the video starting at 9.01, a list with keep order enabled will have its own column definition - so if you then change the list of columns and go back and forth, the columns shown will change with the selected list

I apologize if I'm boring you, maybe I'm not expressing myself clear. I mean set of column. In your video, when you set 'keep order' for the list 'Sort Test', its columns was changed. Then you went to the list 'Test' where you didn't set 'keep order'. But (as I can see on my laptop) if you would set 'keep order' for 'Test' list and then added a column ('First play' in your example) you would probably saw the same column in 'Sort Test'. I really want you to prove me wrong) But how I can see, 'keep order' on/off is just two sets of columns. What's interesting, favourite folders have their own (third) set of columns.

@user-wm9kv9uf5t I don't think there's a lot more I can say to prove my point 🙂 When you use keep order, the list simply gets its own configuration, which it keeps independently from what you do in other lists
