Not really. Mine are generally "low" because of my zerodb setting. But I don't really see them as vu meters. On most controllers they are just leds that the software turns on and off loosely based on volume and/or gain. So I don't see them as trustworthy indicators like they are on analog mixers
@@klausmogensen8691 it's an observation I've made with my ddj1000. When using rekordbox the leds are bouncing in the yellow to red consistently on all tracks played but for some reason in vdj, they vary a lot even tho the output is level on the tracks.... so the autogain definitely does its thing there, but the leds is a different story. My settings are -3 in both programs. Some tracks don't go passed the 1st two green leds in the loudest parts in vdj. Same track touches the 1st red led easily.
I had my volume sliders set at 100, the gain at 12 o clock on auto and master 80% i use my lows mainly for songs with more bass i adjust that and record in high quality i still dont understand why my mix when it replayed the volume is inconsistent keeps dipping
Thank you a lot. Great video. Learned a lot from you. i was working before with analog mixer and now started with a controller. I just understood that i should not look at the uv meter on the controller. The master software meter is the one that matters. i think that on the controller it shows red sometimes because it does not take in count the real fix of autogain by the software. anyway i changed the settings of zerodb and no reds on controller anymore. hi i have a big problem my virtual dj keeps correcting the gain and i cant put it on zero, zeroDb is turned off and it seems fine without putting a song but when i play a song the gain corrects itself, even tho autogain is turned off
Finding this extremely useful. As you say, this can be a controversial topic depending on your preferences. I am keen to try out your settings, so I've set faders to the top and master to the max, and I'm happy with my gain, but with that output my speakers only need to operate at around 1 or 2 out of 10 before being too loud. Many DJs recommend running at max with their speaker volumes, but obviously in my case that would be unbearable! How do you have your speaker/amp volumes set? I use a Roland 707m controller with RCF J8 speakers. Thanks for your time.
It's totally fine to share turning down the master volume between 2 knobs, if that makes it easier to adjust Personally I would probably set my zerodb setting pretty high, and see if that helps. I believe the Roland controllers run rather hot, which zeroDb can help lower a bit
Thanks for prompt reply. Fair enough, I shall continue with your preferences and tweak for best volume, including the 0db settings idea. Testing at home at the moment, and already the changes mean I can adjust my mic settings for this new level and it sounds so much better! Thanks Klas, how about the output volume if you are streaming. It would be useful to be able to adjust this with the master volume control or booth output. I normally have my monitor speakers off and work with headphones only, so I don’t need to control the audio out from my DDJ 1000.
Broadcasting/streaming volume should always be at 100%/unity in my opinion. Then you are sending out the best possible "product" when broadcasting, and it's then up to the individual listener to decide how loud they want the volume to be. Just like when listening to the radio. Of course you often turn down the volume when talking over a segment. But that won't be using the master volume. That will be by "riding" a deck volume or using a ducking function
@@klausmogensen8691 Thanks Klaus, of course you are correct, actually, thinking about it, my request didn’t give the full picture. I am actually broadcasting live audio, which I never see or can effect the master out. At the same time I am using a HDMI capture on a 2nd PC to feed into OBS you produce a live video mix into Mixcloud. As my set progresses, I keep an eye on the levels in OBS and occasionally I see the meters touching red. I want to be sure there is no clipping, so i assume I would want to either map the master volume to the HDMI volume out ( if that’s even possible) or use midi mapping to trim the OBS input. Maybe this isn’t really a VDJ specific question ;)
