I love my 3/8 stubby, very few bolts that it wont get out, I've taken out subframe and suspension apart with it, very very powerful, and very tiny, with the snap on wobblers (amazing) I very very rarely use a ratchet anymore, I can get to almost everything with it.

That won't do much, I once was in a rush and somehow managed to remove all 5 nuts before I realized that I hadn't even jacked the car up. The wheel however did not budge due to what I assume is the hub holding it in place until weight is removed from the hub by jacking the car up. Of course, always jack it up before removing nuts and lugs just to be safe though.

This is not a drill, but you are right about a lot of options. I think that they are just trying to address every single price point in the market - also, they don't seem to discontinue tools all that often. One thing that is contributing to the variety of tools is that battery tools are replacing air tools....

Anyone else get the 3/8 stubby and not impressed? I run the 3.0 battery and I tried pulling a bolt with 177 ft lbs of torque on it and no go. I used the m12 non-stubby 3/8 and that was a great impact, never had a problem. But I'm not sure about this stubby. Maybe I need the 4.0 xc battery?
@BlakesGarage
@BlakesGarage 4 года назад
How do you know it had 177 ft lbs of breaking force? Or are you saying original torque spec of the bolt was 177 ft lbs? Because old bolts that are torqued that’s tight usually take a hell of a lot more torque over the years to brake loose. That’s why I have a high torque impact and mid torque impact also.

Wanted to chime in. I've tried both the 3/8" M12 (2554-20) & 1/2" M12 (2555-20) stubbies, using fully-charged 4.0Ah & 6.0 Ah batteries, to remove wheel lug-bolts (hand-torqued to 90 ft-lbs) on my bmw e46. Neither M12 stubby will budge my wheel lug-bolts (hand-torqued to 90 ft-lbs). I'm using impact-rated 3/8" & 1/2" sockets (no adaptors). Either way, I'm starting to wonder if the M12 stubby is simply weaker (nut-busting) than advertised OR it simply takes more unfastening torque to remove wheel lug-bolts than wheel lug-nuts. If you go on the Milwaukee site (& HomeDepot), the response to the M12 stubbies is overwhelming "very" positive, though there are numerous customers who simply can't use the M12 stubbies to remove 85-95 ft-lbs lug-bolts on bmw's. Unfortunately, I'm taking my 1/2" M12 stubby back & getting an M18 mid-torque. Great videos!
@BlakesGarage
@BlakesGarage 4 года назад
Sounds like somethings wrong with yours. Because it should be able to bust off 250 foot pounds. I’ve watched other guys take semi lugs off with them. I’ve had absolutely no issues with mine and the thing works flawlessly. Now if you do have something that’s higher torque obviously use a higher rated ranch but you should be fine for Wheels At 90ftlbs. There’s also a warranty on them. You can just call them up and send it in and they repair it for free. I know after a long time abuse they can get a little weaker but that’s after years of abuse.

@@BlakesGarage Really appreciate the reply! Yeah, seeing that I've now tried brand new 3/8" & 1/2" M12 stubbies, both w/ a no-go on my e46 lug-bolts, I'm doubtful that's a coincidence nor a defective unit. I even tried a 6.0 Ah battery y'day on the new 1/2" M12 I bought & it's a no-go on the hand-torqued wheel lug-bolts. Very odd, though I started combing though reviews online & overwhelming folks have wheel lug "no-goes" w/ the M12 stubbies seem to be w/ wheel lug-bolts & not wheel lug-nuts. I tried y'day on a friends e46 bmw & the M12 stubby would not budge those properly torqued lug-bolts either. Btw, I see you have some older vids on bmw e30's. I had a true e30 unicorn for ~13 years here in Vancouver - a 5-spd '89 325i e30 Touring (wagon) - no sunroof, factory sports-suspension + MANUAL windows. Kinda regret selling that a few years ago! Cheers.

My 1/2" stubby struggled to remove wheels studs torqued to 95 ft-lbs with the 4ah battery and was unable to remove them with an 1.5ah battery. I will keep using my Ridgid 1/2" impact wrench rated at 450 ft-lbs for lug bolts.
@BlakesGarage
@BlakesGarage 4 года назад
madc0bra2 well I think you're missing the point of this impact driver it's all about the size and it does a damn good job for most small fasteners. But yes you should have a higher rated impact wrench for bolt and nuts that are being stubborn. For example if I can't get something off with this I use my Milwaukee Mid torque rated at 750 ftlbs or my high torque rated at 1200 ftlbs but the size and weight goes up with each one. The big selling point of this is the ability to fit it most places easily and the low weight.
@madc0bra2
@madc0bra2 4 года назад
@@BlakesGarage. I totally agree with you, but most of the reviews about the Milwaukee Stubby impact make it look like this is the best choice for someone looking for an impact wrench to change tires. I believe that if you can have only 1 impact, a mid torque is more appropriate because the Stubby is to close from it limits doing it and sometimes just won't cut it. I think the Stubby is one of the best 2nd one to have if you use that type of tool regularly. BTW, I really like your channel, keep up your good work 👍🏽.

Hi, as already have the 1/2 MT, why not have chosen the 3/8 stubby? I know it's a give away from Milwaukee but would you chose a 3/8 rather then a 1/2 inch? I'm looking to buy a stubby and am wondering which size. I already have the MT

@urjnlegend 6 лет назад
Because then he can compare the two and have this video, he essentially gets to truly out it to the test and see what it can do. Plus he also can replace his larger one and work easier for certain jobs.

I also have the MT 1/2 drive. Added the 3/8 stubby, great combination.

Hello, Audi technician here..you will destroy your hubs if you take out your wheel studs while the vehicle is on the ground, just want to let you know so you don't hurt your car

Thanks I never take them out on the ground. Just did 3 because i didnt want to jack the car up for a quick demo.

Tyler Bennett but all the weight from the car ain’t solely on that wheel why would the hubs be destroyed ?

Should i get the mid-torque or high torque? I work on things that range from a mini-cooper to maybe an occasional commercial work van, i do most of our tires where i work which is very often
@ramtrucks721

Go with high torque... Better to have extra power and not need
@juanalvaradouser4877
@juanalvaradouser4877 5 лет назад
For the tires get the mid torque with the protective boot and a 5.0 battery
@michaeldaidone1904

I have both, for what you described I would get the MT. Much lighter and more compact.

Lugs are at 120 lbs, but did not nt really want to buy a 1/2 drive dedicated jsit for lugs. Think a 3/8 drive stubby will do?

I used ru-vid.comUgkx4ynqaujg7rZKFapA8s29kTpRszJGa3-K this for the first time today to replace the front wheel bearing on my rwd 98 dodge dakota. This had absolutely no issue removing or reinstalling the lug nuts and it took off the axle nut without any struggle. Sounds like it's got some muscle to it. Time will tell

Would have been better to have shown the stubby getting in places the other impacts can't. Too often reviewers like yourself just rip off a couple lug nuts from their daily with an impact and call it a "review". Let's see its potential!

Wrong stats on the mid torgue and another guy doing a commercial for Milwaukee with his free tools....compare them against dewalt and Makita....don't sell your integrity for a free tool,just work more

@joeframer9642
@joeframer9642 5 лет назад
@Steelhead Fanatic are you a framer? Because no saw on the market is close to the power of the flexvolt 577 saw, not even close and no not the new Milwaukee HD circ sawwith a 12ah....noone comes close to the flexvolt 12" cordless/corded mitre saw or the tablesaw or corded tools.....go to any construction site,builders...the use Flexvolt tools or dewalt corded... Milwaukee is a good company for plumbing,HVAC and mechanics..not building....until the Milwaukee gen 3 impact,drill and impact wrench ... Dewalt has had the most powerful line up for the last 4 years....M12 is a great line of tools though.....plus all drills,impacts,impact wrench, hand tools, storage...are made in America helping Americans with jobs ... unlike Milwaukee which isade in China.... support American companies and jobs...

Batteries don't give you torque, they give you time to work. The motor is the difference.
