What an amazing machine! Some of my subscribers pointed me in the direction of the 112 and somehow I only saw the expander and couldn't figure out how it could possibly work. Your video definitely cleared that up. Thank you for sharing!

Great overview, thanks Omri. Do you think this would also work well for rhythmic material, for example feeding it a basic drum loop and inputting some rhythmic gates so it could slice and chop up a beat in an interesting way?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 2 года назад
Well, you could do something like that by setting a small grain size and randomly jumping through the loop, triggering the grains with a rhythmic clock source. To be honest, I still didn't try this and I feel like I didn't scratched the surface with it even. It's so deep...

Thanks so much for the vid!! 😀 About the looper, is it possibile to record on top of one loop whitout delete the previously record loop? I mean like having layers of sound that play at the same time? When you overdubbed the piano loop at 3:30 it seems that it deleted a piece of the previously recorded loop. Thanks :)

Is one able to manually trigger grains (via a trigger input), similarly to Arbhar? I'm looking to replace Arbhar because I can't deal with its noise floor, but would miss being able to trigger grains. How is the noise on the 112? Anything like Arbhar or Morphagene? Or is it clean sounding? Thanks for the info you've already provided! And for making demos using sounds I like to granulate

@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 года назад
Yeah, there are some artifacts but I'm still not so sure if it's only my unit or it's something in the firmware I have installed. I'm working on figuring it out.

@@ratchetboo yo I know about aliasing and character I’ve got my fair share of vintage samplers. What I heard here was strong aliasing on turning the dial and then settling to the sound once on the new pitch.
@GeorgeLocke
@GeorgeLocke 3 года назад
(professor frink enters) technically speaking, "aliasing" only happens when pitching up. Pitching down produces sample-rate-reduction.
@GeorgeLocke
@GeorgeLocke 3 года назад
You can hear the problem at 6:23. This is definitely a sample rate artifact. it's hard to tell if the artifacts are happening when the knob is moving and stop once you leave it in place, but either way, it is preventable. This is the kind of artifact you can get from the Max/MSP object index~ docs.cycling74.com/max8/refpages/index~ Index~ is a kind of "brute force" sample playback where you send it a sample index and it simply spits out the value of the buffer at that index. If you advance the index at the native sample rate of the buffer, it sounds normal, but any other speed will produce artifacts because index~ doesn't interpolate between samples. From the Max manual, "Since the index~ object does no interpolation, it is less useful for general sample playback tasks than play~, groove~ etc.." The point is that simple DSP interpolation algorithms can remove these artifacts, and hopefully ADDAC will implement them because they really are simple and standard.

@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 года назад
Well, the first run was sold out already, I pre ordered mine a few months ago, didn't get it from ADDAC directly or anything so I guess that they are already in production. According to Thomann, they should be available in a week.
@cci35
@cci35 3 года назад
Do you know if it is possible to set a maximum length for the buffer and make it overdub itself so it can act as a granular effect ala clouds rather than a dedicated granular looper btw? //or to achieve this by some other method :)
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 года назад
Well, yeah, you can also continuously process incoming audio and process it live, and there are even a couple of settings you can use to add some variation to this like recording probability and recording delay.
@cci35
@cci35 3 года назад
@@OmriCohen-Music basically sounds like a great module :) The recording probability seems like a huge deal to me; the module feels super thought through. I get if you don't want to spend your whole day in the comment section; but if you have time at some point I would love to hear your take on pros/cons vs arbhar :) Like in your texture video, which I loved. That video really showcased some differences in granular approach between all those great modules. Would love to know how the 112 measures up to them.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 3 года назад
@@cci35 No worries :) I love Arbhar. Up until recently, it was the only module that I really felt like it's going deeper into granular territories, and it's so musical. Unlike the 112, it has a built in mic you can use to record practically anything into it, it has a built in reverb you can modulate, and it's much smaller than the 112. On the other hand, the 112 has a looper engine you can use together with the granular engine, it has many more controls on the panel, more CV inputs, an on board SD card, and it's also stereo in. I consider myself lucky to have both, and I will keep both because to me they feel quite different, the results are quite different and the workflow as well.
@cci35

@@OmriCohen-Music thanks for elaborating :) I seem to have some thinking to do 😅 something with the accessibility of the 112 really resonates with me; glad to see that developers keep pushing the boundaries of granular!

Hey Omiri, thanks for another great video. I noticed in your comment (maybe on a different video) that you no longer have the 112. I love what you do with granular synthesis so I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind telling a little about this decision. I have one, still in the box, trying to decide what to do with it. After purchasing, I have noticed a relative lack of videos on this module (as compared to other granular modules) and there seem to be more comments about bugs rather than excitement or praise about this thing. I was just wondering what influenced your decision to sell it as I try to decide whether I should return this and look into something else as there seem to be many other, great options. I know this is an extremely personal decision and am not looking for "advice" so to speak, I just admire your work and was wondering what it was about this particular module that made you sell it and/or what about the other modules you use, in comparison, that make you keep coming back to them. I appreciate your music and your opinion. Please keep up the great work on this channel.
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music Год назад
Hi! Well, I decided I want to go back to a smaller setup with a 7U case so this module was just way to big. I had a few firmware issues but the people at ADDAC were quite supportive and updated the firmware pretty quickly a few times. I kept Arbhar as my main granular module and I'm really happy with it. It's deep and intuitive, and very musical. But yeah, basically, I sold the 112 because it was just too big and I have other options for granular and looping.
